BBC News - MSPs warn against 'reckless' start to deposit return scheme https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-64642420
I just got back from Colombia where in a corner shop I could buy a glass bottle of coke with 2 options, 1 buy the bottle to take with me or 2 drink my coke within the vicinity and return the bottle once finished where it then got returned to Coke to be refilled.
They're literally doing this in third world countries, I don't buy that this can't be done, what I do buy is the drinks industry being incredibly reluctant to finally take some responsibility for all the plastic they use
EDIT: missed a word
If you watch Dragons Den/Shark Tank, any of those shows, any time someone comes on with a solution to disposable plastic bottles all the Dragons/Sharks invested in soft drinks will be brutal and reject the idea pretty much straight away, and make the person look dumb for thinking of the idea.
It made me realise they're not soft drink manufacturers, but plastic bottle manufacturers. The main profits for them is in marking up the convenience of plastic, and anything that will stop plastic bottles being needed will tear into their massive profits.
