What is the best way to get around in Santorini? Rental cars? Vespa rentals? Uber? Public transportation? Taxis? We are there three days.
It might depend on where you are staying. I heard Uber is expensive. I rented a car at the airport and it was reasonable.
We stayed in Oia and rented a car for one day and it was 60 euros. It was a small car and it was perfect! Highly recommend
Just finished our 4 day trip in Santorini and In my opinion a rental car is needed we got a small kia (2 seater) for 30€ a day since its down season and it was perfect, ran around the whole island everyday and didnt even finish the whole gas tank.
My wife and I drove all over that island in 2022 on a rented quad. I know it's a little risky and not for everyone, but damn it was fun to drive. Also much easier to navigate those tight alleyways compared to a rental car.
Was it a multi day rental, and if so, were you concerned about parking it overnight (security wise)?
Yes it was for multiple days. We stayed on the flat (east) side of the island though, in a little resort complex. Very little overnight traffic besides the other guests. But we did park it all over the place during the day without incident, if that helps.
Stay in Fira, go by bus everywhere.
Wake up early and beat the crowds. Take the early buses. Especially the day you go to Oia. Take the 7 or 8:30 bus. Walk around, take your pictures and enjoy the sights. And then once all the cruise ship people start flooding in, go to a cafe or restaurant and have lunch.

Cannot recommended a rental car more. So many beautiful things to see and a car gives you the freedom to move on your own schedule to your own interests. Prices are very reasonable especially if you can drive manual
We stayed in Pyrgos for a week, using public transport only to get around.
Usually it was a trip to Fira, quick bus change and you’re on the road to your destination.
Stay in Fira, use buses.
