Hello Reddit!

My husband and I are looking for a place we truly want to get settled in. We've been moved around a lot (in my case, country to country) and are ready to find the place we really want to set roots in. We keep having this discussion over and over, and since we're still at an impasse, I was hoping your suggestions could help.

We don't ask for much- just a blue state with a walkable city, low cost of living, great weather all year, with a thriving restaurant and arts scene. Easy peasy! Please leave multiple examples below 😘✌️

Ok but in all seriousness, here's our profile:

  • DINKS (no plans for children at all)
  • Can work all over the US
  • We prefer hot weather (even intense hot) over places that get very cold; the coldest we were able to live with were the kind of winters one gets in Washington DC, and would be fine settling on that level of weather.
  • We really, really want to live in a Blue state
  • A cost of living where a good apartment complex (the shiny, new kind with amenities like a gym and outdoor space) in a 2-bedroom could cost 3k and under
  • SOME walkability- doesn't need to be NYC level, but at least has pockets where I could walk out my apartment door and have a coffee place, restaurant, and a cute store or two within walking distance, does that make sense?
  • We love a good cultural and food scene- a city with theater, museums, restaurant/bar options (from divey street food to fancy).

Not really important:

  • Nature- we like a little park walk here and there, but don't mind not being near it

Non-negotiables:

  • Intense winters. I am Brazilian, and when my Minnesota co-worker talks about knee-length snow I'm ready to pass out over the idea. How do y'all do it?? You guys are heroes to me.
  • Intensely car-heavy; think Houston or Atlanta in that regard.

States and Cities we discarded

  • Washington DC- will love that city forever, still have roots and many visits, but we don't want to live there anymore. [EDIT: but we would be more than fine living beyond the DMV proper- Maryland and Virginia aren't off the table!]
  • Not the PNW, unfortunately. I found it beautiful and romantic (I may not be nature-y but those woods were mesmerizing). Thing is, my husband grew up there and will quote, directly hurl himself into the sun if he has to go back to the drizzle weather he ran away from.
  • Florida in general- we currently live in South Florida and while I have really loved it, we don't want to settle permanently in the state.

We really welcome any and all suggestions- we keep going back and forth over different places, and I would love your perspective of what you think fits this bill, if it exists at all!

[EDIT: and thank you for the suggestions thus far, everyone; you could have called me a delusional walnut but have been so kind in the comments, and I appreciate it!]
