i've seen a lot of love/hate for the music here and just curious to see what you guys think 👀
🤦🏻♂️🤣
Bwahaha
The indie scene is full of rapist predatory late 20s guys who think its ok to be around teenagers and dont have jobs 😂
Then all the band members are also rapist y feos
It kinda makes sense bcs its dudes who never move out their parents house (no shame in that if done the right way) but these guys are stuck home cs theyre lazy and want to relive the hs popularity days 🤣 and dont want to work
I was submerged in the music scene in early to mid 2000s. It’s ALWAYS been like that. 😖
Gallows Holier than the Cross please
that band was so good. also Blood Orange, and Train Go Sorry.
rob is 3/5 robot
hell yea. i still got the demo.
There’s a lot of talent for sure. Someone comprised a list of all the bands and musicians within different genres on another post a few days ago, and there was a lot of amazing music i discovered through there.
For whatever reason there’s a lot of really good shoegaze groups in the RGV… I love Glare specifically, and if you like Reggaeton then I’d recommend y’all listen to Arza, he’s a rapper from Rio Grande and has really good songs.
Are you talking about this list? https://www.reddit.com/r/RioGrandeValley/comments/1bz26cv/comment/kyny1kz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Yeah, I agree, lots of amazing bands on there!
Yes! Loved that list
I wish there was a bigger EDM scene. I’m happy UME came back but I miss the other shows we had. (Winter fantasy land?) was one. Not sure if that’s the name. I do love how rock/metal/scream has been bigger now. I heard there’s always something about it at DT on Friday or Saturdays.
I miss the underground rave scene of like 2000-2005ish. I remember going to a rave at boca chica beach maybe like 2002? it was awesome.
Definitely should check out the Joe Martin Show Podcast on YouTube, he does interviews with many bands and artists from the RGV, basically documenting the scene down here.
I really want to make friends with musicians down here and start a psychedelic rock band. Aside from that I really love the funkier banda groups and a lot of the venues are really cool. But I wish there were more funk bands, and less cover bands
Let’s start something
Grupo Frontera is pretty good
I wanna do vocals for a rock band but I can’t play any instruments lol
Guess we are in the same boat, I want to do vocals but the only instrument I can play is trumpet. Is there any trumpet music in rock music nowadays?
make a ska band?
Form a ska band.
I play guitar… 👀
Anyone know what happened to LUNCH? lol
YES I DO! I randomly messaged their Facebook page one day just because I was bored like where are y’all and they responded like 5 years later. So it was really hard for all the guys to get back together for a while because I think somebody was studying biology abroad. After a few years of not performing they did another project called bush pilot. If I’m not mistaken, their music might still be on Spotify. And then in 2020 they released more music under lunch on distrokid.
What about sons of Texas
The metal and punk scene has never slowed down. Many fine original bands. I have noticed in the last ten years the lone singer with a guitar has become popular in bars and restaurants. There isn’t much for local country bands, tejano bands are around same for norteno and other Spanish singing bands. The rap scene exists but live shows aren’t really a thing anymore. We also have the post punk band twin tribes that have become a really big thing around the U.S. They have toured most of the US and play huge festivals. I would say they are the biggest band from the valley that most people don’t know. Lots of live music at many bars on weekends not too hard to find. Over all it’s a very good scene down here.
There’s so much talent in every genre down here and all the scenes are usually booming, but I feel like there’s a lot of animosity that keeps them from growing bigger.( Like kudos to grupo frontera, kelvin espana, glare, and Riley for making names for themselves in their respective genres and going on tour, and that most of these people are so so nice) but I always see people shitting on communities that they should be encouraging to grow. And it’s either out of jealousy or just elitism. Like I’ve seen a lot of artist talk badly about other artists that they work closely with and I’ve seen just people talk badly in regards to musicians and artist just because they don’t like the genre. which is just as bad because just because it’s not your cup of tea doesn’t mean you should shit on it, I’m firm believer shitting on people if they’re bad people, but not because I don’t like the music.
From what I hear, Gesture sucks and the singer is an asshole.
