I flew out from the west coast yesterday because my tattoo artist is here. But he came down with a stomach bug so we pushed my appointment to (hopefully) tomorrow. I'm staying near the airport and don't love the idea of spending a ton of money ubering around. Are there any fun things I can do nearby or within a quick trip? I love food, the ocean, shopping. Not so much into historical stuff (I'm sorry đŠ).

Trains are like 2-3 hours apart. Great if your timing is lucky, useless otherwise. Bus is slower but more practical
Get on the train at the airport station and go to Providence for the day.
airport is a bit out of the way (assuming you mean greene), but you can catch a bus north to downtown providence. very very walkable, would recommend walking around college hill and fox point. plenty to eat and buy.
Would love to know who your tattoo artist is. If youâre flying out from the WC to get work done, they must be good.

Powerline is right around the corner from my house, crazy! I never knew they were that good. Right around the corner is a spot called Teds Stadium Pub on Park Ave. disclaimer I bartend there but itâs a chill spot to hang at before or after your tattoo spot. try the stuffies! in my opinion better than any other stuffie in RI

Fish and chips are aight. Crab is the only thing I really like. What is a hot wiener đđ if it's a spicy sausage or kielbasa type thing then no đŹ
Ted's stadium is a nice little pub and food is good. I think at this point you need to go and at least try a hot weenie. And stuffies have filling, aka stuffing, so if you do crab cakes and such I would say dive into one you will probably like it. Hopefully you get to enjoy the state a little and your tattoo session was successful!

Village of East Greenwich would be a quick Uber. Lots of small shops and plenty of restaurants. The Shanty is one of the best places to eat in the county (only open for dinner during the week), too far to walk but it is in Warwick so a short Uber

Okay so this may not be what you want to hear butâŚI live in Providence and I LOVE Providence but it does not reveal its charms easily or quickly to the drop in and out tourist. If you only have one day and want to experience ocean, shopping, good food (and history, which youâre not into but in RI you canât avoid), get yourself to Newport for the day. It has a large but walkable âtouristâ center with all the amenities and more, plus the ocean which you can experience by taking the Cliff Walk or just walk out on the various wharfs and gaze out to the bay. Itâs lovely, inviting and fun for a day. Providence can be all those things too but itâs harder to find it all in one place. Come back to Providence for a weekend or more and you will love it too; but with just one day you may be underwhelmed.
Not much in Warwick near the airport. Iâd say take an Uber to Providence. Get stopped off at Amyâs place. Grab a breakfast sandwich/ smoothie. Stop across the street at the coffee exchange if youâd like. Walk up benefit st to view some pretty houses and a great view of the city at prospect park. Then walk over to the Providence River pedestrian bridge area. Pretty spot to walk around. Might be some good trucks open over there as well
Take the train to Providence directly from the Airport or take the 1 bus. Warwick has fun parts, but they are not near the airport. You'll have more fun in Providence and the public transit is reliable.

Lots of suggestions over at r/providence discussing food, shopping. For the ocean, the closest you'll get to the ocean in Prov is a visit to India Point Park.
Westminster st downtown has some nice local shops and restaurants. The Providence Place Mall too if you want to shop. Waterplace park since its a nice day if you just want to stroll around, not the ocean but its water lol. Near the train station I like Jackie's waterplace, its a sushi and Chinese restaurant, great views on the terrace.
The Rhode Island School of Design museum is a world-class museum and, in addition to their permanent collection, also shows student work and fashion. There's always something interesting to see there.
It's a short walk to the campus of Brown, Thayer St., and the rest of that area - if you're up for a good walk, you can hit Wickenden St and India Point and perhaps do part of the East Bay Bike Path, which has spectacular views, or head up to Wayland Sq. There are lots of cafes, small restaurants, boutiques, and book stores. Have fun!
Worth a trip to Bodhi Spa on Broadway in Providence or Bodhi Spa on Thames Street in Newport.
If you're in warwick then go to iggys, its right on the beach and a very cozy spot

If you take the advice to visit College Hill/ Benefit Street in Providence, don't miss the RISD Museum. It's art, not history.
If youâre near the airport, Shannon View is a cool local bar. Not upscale but also not a dive bar. They even do brunch!
If you want to stay in Warwick, Tommyâs clam shack has the best seafood. Proclamation has a brewery right by there too.

Others have said this too but I just want to emphasize, by far your best option is to take the train to Providence. Do not take an Uber, do not take the bus, take the train, it is RIGHT THERE and will get you into the center of Providence quickly and easily.
From there, walk over to the East Side. Walk along the river, then swing a block up to Benefit Street. This is "historical stuff" (it's called the Mile of History) but don't worry about the history, it's just a really pretty street and there's nothing like it on the West Coast. Have lunch at Den Den (great Korean spot) or if you're into vegan stuff, go back down to Water Street for Plant City, a cool vegan food hall with lots of different options.
Make your way down to the newish pedestrian bridge, which is a great spot to sit and enjoy the view. Then you can cut over to India Point Park. We're not getting you to the ocean but lots of great waterfront vistas here. From there you can explore the Fox Point neighborhood of the East Side, which is centered on Wickenden Street, some fun and funky shopping there.
You've drifted pretty far from the train at this point, but it's still only a mile and a half back to the station if you're so inclined.
