Mine is caffeine.
What is that one thing that you don't believe you are addicted to but can't see yourself ever giving up?
Chocolate. But wait -- hear me out. I'm allergic to chocolate. I have been my whole life. I was the weirdo kid who got white milk instead of chocolate milk at lunch. I was the one who got Twizzlers instead of Hershey bars. I never ate a s'mores.
Recently, I discovered that I'm not allergic to Dutch processed chocolate. Something about the process removes whatever makes me sick.
I'm not going back to a chocolate-free life. I'm not addicted to it, neither am I giving it up.
How do you know that the Dutch process removes something, and not that the American process includes something? I'm genuinely curious, this isn't an attempt at a gotcha or anything. I suspect I might have a very mild allergy to some/most chocolates – it's a weird hot/burning/tingly sensation in the back of my throat – but while I haven't mindfully experimented enough to have great data, I know for sure I get it with Hershey's and not with Lindt. I've always assumed the culprit is some additive in the cheap stuff, I'm just too lazy to care what, lol.
I have no idea. I do know that I can't eat any chocolates made in America because I'm allergic to soy, and they all contain some kind of soy.
That makes sense - and sucks; I’m sorry :(
