Warranty return

News

So at the start of the week I sat on the sofa and grabbed my portal. Once it connected I quickly realised I couldn’t move the left stick up and down. After a series of expletives and work arounds I finally gave in to the fact it was faulty. Took me a while to figure out how to start a warranty return but I got there by ringing ps support uk. Boxed it up and sent it off with very little hassle from ps support tbf to them. It’s only now I sit here on my sofa a few days later while my tv is occupied by the mrs that I find myself completely lost with what to do with myself. The portal is no joke and you don’t realise what you’re missing until it’s gone.

TLDR: missing my portal after the left stick failed. So decided to post about it.

May I ask how long you had it and roughly how much you used it before this happened? I'm paranoid this is inevitable for mine even though I'm super careful with it.

I preordered it and it came mid/late November last year. Ive used it a fair amount. Probably on average a couple hours a night (taking into account some days not using it at all other days having 5+ hour gaming sessions. Normally the latter)

You got an early unit. The left stick is known to fail and there are dozens of users complaining about this. I haven't seen post of newer units having this problem yet, only those that ordered in 2023 and early 2024.

Of course, there is a chance that a newer Portal will still have left stick problem. Just need to wait a few months to see if it happens.

I didn’t know that. I’m not sure what will happen. Maybe I’ll get lucky and be sent a replacement 🤷‍♂️ unlikely tho

Probably they already fixed what was wrong before and they are replacing your joystick with better parts.

My right stick has failed from a preorder unit. I haven't sent it back yet because most games are technically playable this way it just takes time for the camera to adjust. I bought a replacement unit so I can have a backup when it's repaired. I'm actually surprised that these are $200.

I’d probably get it raised under warranty, not sure what the warranty period is for portals, may only be a year so still have time but wouldn’t want you to be out of pocket.
