What kind of sorcery is this? This is pure wizardry, good for you. Invested to see if OP thinks this looks like her or not.
Plot twist. It's not photoshop but the person who took the original photo.
Topaz Giga pixel AI has done things like this for me. There is a bit of an uncanny valley where it’s not EXACTLY the person, but it gets damned close
Its not the size but the color, one lf them is a little but brighter
Others have deduced it was AI, due to susceptible like different pupil sizes and earing that are clearly supposed to be hoops that are wavy, things which would have been trivial to get right for someone who could somehow do this manually.
They could just photoshop the AI photo to make the pupils the right size and fix the earrings. 🤷♂️ not a big deal she will now have a perfect picture of her sister to always cherish.
Yeah for real
Of course it is AI. Great tool.

Man, 3 months ago I’d tell you it’s a painstaking process in photoshop that’s similar to literally skin grafting from other people. It’s an art. Sometimes literally digital repainting the face, mashing with other photos if we can find. Mix of vector and raster. Truly digging into the edges, flipping into multiple B/W, high-contrast, inverted modes to pass photoshop-detectors on all fronts.
Now? Today? I’d find an AI. Maybe try a couple and there’s probably one that’ll fix this in a femtosecond.

Absolutely nuts right? The technology we have this year is leaps and bounds ahead of the technology we had this time last year. Nov’22 onwards changed everything with AI.

zoom in her eye

use the reflection of her eye to see the camera man
enhance
use the reflection of the camera lens to make this picture

holy shit that's fantastic. You are clearly highly skilled and no doubt could be highly compensated for your work. Cudos to you for doing this for free!

I have been on this sub just to see all your amazing jobs. I've been putting off starting to learn photo editing skills..(insert execuses... mostly that I feel like an old dog)... but I think you'll be changing my mind
Edit spelling
You can do this with some ai websites in 10 seconds.

Remini app?
Yes, and topaz labs.
I just tried it with Topaz AI and I thought it wasn't bad. Then I saw what /u/mrhudsonthedog did and it's on another level!
Just tried to download it. Different rant, but I can’t stand when an app is free to download but then immediately asks you to pay a monthly subscription to even use it. Just getting around the App Store free app filters and pumping up download numbers with “in app purchases” when it’s really “in app buy this dumb app”
This is the best one. Great job!!!
OP sorry for your loss.
This is literal magic to me, great work! I’m starting to wonder if those “enhance” scenes in shows like CSI are not as bullshit as they seem lol I’m legit blown away by this
They are still bullshit, because AI enhancement didn't exist back then. This pic was enhanced with AI.
They'd be bullshit now too, because this type of AI "enhancement" is basically guessing and can't pick out specific and reliable real details with evidentiary value. It's cool for this type of thing, but you couldn't actually rely on it to turn a blurry picture into an accurate picture of a suspect or enhance writing into legibility.
I just did this in 5 seconds with the remini app, AI can do a lot more than you think it can
I'm curious to see which one looks the most like his sister. The one I did has smaller eyes than the top voted one
Yeah and those AIs fill the details with "imaginary" stuff, is good for stuff like this but using AI to "enhance" license plates and shit to get info/evidence wouldnt work
Its not actually enhancing anything, its AI just hallucinating details.
You did an awesome job, but for some reason the two different sized pupils is messing with me
Ahh darn it.. you made me see it, now I can't unsee it..
I have 2 different size pupils naturally. It can actually be a problem because if you're unconscious and they see your pupils are 2 different sizes, they will think you have a brain bleed. You risk that they'll go and drill burr holes to try to relieve the pressure on the brain. I have to carry a card in my wallet that says I have Anisocoria (2 different size pupils). Kinda weird none of my doctors brought this up until I was 20yo.
Edit: This isn't accurate. Please read below to see the comments from medical professionals. I'm leaving this up just incase others were told something similar and they can learn.
I'm sorry to have caused any confusion/worry.
Edit 2: It is still important to carry a card saying you have this.
I have pupils, Greg. Can you photoshop me?
Dude, same here. I have severe bilateral amblyopia and so my eyes adjust to certain lighting conditions very differently. I too keep a wallet card with my diagnosis on it, as well as detailed information on my phone in case of an emergency. I’m scared of getting into a big accident and then getting treated for something that isn’t actually happening to me.
This is wildly inaccurate. If you had a brain bleed significant enough to cause prolonged unconsciousness you would have multiple other very telling signs of increased intracranial pressure than simply 2 different sized pupils. And if you are unconscious for reasons other than head trauma/ intracranial hemorrhage you will have other causes easier to distinguish and correct. No doctor is going to go drilling holes in your head without an extremely thorough work up and ct scans. The incident history or mechanism would also dictate which steps would come first. I’m a paramedic and tons of people have different sized pupils. Don’t let this worry you!
Yeah, thanks for that!

Plot twist, this is the original photo
Absolutely phenomenal.
So sorry for your loss, OP.
Wow. Now that is amazing technology
This is quite remarkable
Holy shit. That’s amazing
Holy shit! That’s amazing!!
Woowww Went from Minecraft to Destiny 2.. sheesh good work!!
Stable Diffusion img2img or/and codeformer or/and another AI upscaler?
Wow this is amazing!
Whooooaaa outstanding!! How did you do it?!
Holy fffffffffffFffffff
Wow! Came to see how it couldn’t be done or minor change. Impressive work and I feel OP will definitely appreciate it.
This one is the best one by FAR. Looks completely real and like real skin. OP very sorry for your loss.
Wow!! Seriously impressive
This one looks "objectively" the best but the least like the original and probably not what OP's sister looked like.
That is amazing work!
What… the actual… fuck! That is mind blowing.
Did you sell your soul for this magic
this is an interesting edit, but yaasified is it not? Does OP remember their sister looking like this? Did the computer change anything major in the face?
It’s literally yassified 😭😭😭😭 not even her original skin color
I think the skin color change is more to do with the shitty lighting/flash on the original photo making it blown out. A properly-lit photo would look more like this.
That’s insane, I’m proficient in photoshop idk how you did that lol
Holy fuck
Whoa
Beautiful
This is beautiful, great work.
It’s like the original image finally finished loading
Amazing. Which tool did you use?
I'm constantly blown away by the content in this thread! This is amazing work to me!
Hope this help. Sorry for your loss
This looks the most authentic. Great job
The hair is a little messed up but her face looks great. I have no idea how people do this sorta stuff though so I'm still extremely impressed
They probably just use AI. Guarantee the top spot rn just ran it through an AI prompt
The AI posts look great but I wonder if they look anything like the actual person. Probably not even close, in which case it has zero value to OP.
All the top posts appear to be AI which is very unfortunate. People upvote them because they're amazed by the quality of the image, not whether or not it resembles the actual person.

You're correct actually. I posted a semi blurry picture of my mom at 16 and someone ran it through AI. It didn't look like her. Kinda close but it didn't get the eyes correct and when I said so, I got down voted. Thing is, I've known my mom my entire life. It wasn't her and it wasn't even uncanny. It just looked like a girl who kinda looked like my mom at that age but if you were to show me the AI version and tell me it's my mother like I had never seen the picture, I'm 100% sure I would say they were mistaken. I would know it wasn't my mom but someone who looked pretty close. AI isn't perfect (yet) and everyone is so excited for it they won't take reality seriously.
Why so cynical? Maybe it does resemble?
How is any human, let alone AI, supposed to add features having never known or given that info. The results I think came out impressive. And I actually do believe close to the actual.
True but if it really resembles then damn it's really a great thing.
I agree. The top post looks over saturated. Both are pretty amazing still, though.
You know Op’s sister?
This looks most realistic to me anyways
Yeah this wins
This is my first submission and attempt on this sub. I hope it's to your liking. I'm very sorry for your loss.
edit: There are some things I see that I don't like. Will update.
Updated. I didn't realize her hair had curls so added them in and fixed some small details that bothered me.
Updated again: Changed the eyes
This is the only one that has the hair with curls. Everyone else's hair looks like straw and that really threw me off. I think this is absolutely stunning and you did amazing work. I really hope OP picks yours.
That one is nice
You're the only one that's got the hair right! Beautiful!
Best one of the bunch. Good fidelity without too much artistic license. Looks both authentic and natural. Hope the OP finds the right photo for them—my sincerest condolences.
I wish I knew how to edit the post to thank each and everyone of you for your kind words and great edits. We appreciate you all and I hope this finds its way to all of you who helped out. Also thanks for the many laughs in this thread as well. Thank you all 🙏
ACE job. Very impressive! 🏆
Yeah this is pretty awful. The hair ruins it and it looks like fried cable wires. At least if people are going to use AI, they should go back and fix up the mistakes manually with an actual photoshop job. Especially when they are asking for tips. 😬
Literally AI bro…
“sorry for your loss, i voluntarily did 5 minutes of smoothing here’s my fucking tip jar”
5 minutes? Were they making a cup of coffee for the first 4 of them and took 30 seconds to carry the coffee to the computer?

My man really asked for a tip from the grieving sibling 💀
So sorry for your loss.
The image you posted is incredibly small, is it possible that a higher-resolution version of this exists somewhere? (social media profile or photo site? ) The size it is looks like it was a thumbnail from somewhere, so a larger version may be there too.
The results you will get back from such a low-resolution image will not be true to your sister as they will likely all just be using AI to "guess" what she looked like.
If you can find a higher-resolution version then people here will be able to enhance it properly
The whole chain is fascinating, because we're starting to see the best and worst of what AI/ML has to offer.
It can be incredibly disconcerting and misleading to essentially use data to fill in missing detail. In some sense, you can imagine that in many applications you would rather have a crappy enlargement that is 'accurate' than a good one that is fundamentally inaccurate. Moreover, from a worriesome standpoint, you can imagine essentially changing history as you do so. You're injecting detail that was never there (in a pretty clear sense, since you're using data sets).
A more honest way to do it is as you suggest -- limit the data set to other pictures of the OP, or at least pictures of her family.
I think what we’re seeing is not necessarily the best/worst of what AI/ML can offer, but rather the results of incredibly powerful tools being used by people for jobs without considering whether or not the tool is fit for purpose. They’re using sledgehammers to sink a finishing nail, yes, you’ll get a result, but it might not look pretty.
I spent a little over a year scanning 1000’s of my own family photos and negatives dating back to the 1930s, some are print only on 2x3” ‘postcard’ prints that were popular back then. I’d dearly love to see clean, high quality restorations of them, but the limited resolution restricts what can be achieved. Sure, I can run it through Topaz or scale it in Lightroom and get a super sharp hi resolution result, but the resulting image bears no resemblance to the actual people in the photo. So I’d rather manually clean what I can, and appreciate the result knowing it’s still better than anything my family has seen in close to a century!
I love the potential of AI tools, and use them on a daily basis.. where appropriate! The suite of Topaz tools are amazing when used on suitable images, and generative AI in photoshop is a game changer that speeds up my workflow and opens up opportunities the would have previously been too time consuming to be worthwhile
