i've a cat who needs to have a powdered bitter medicine. The vet recommended i mix it with water or small amounts of wet cat food but my cat here foams at his mouth whenever i feed him the medicine with water. When i feed it with tuna he just simply spits it out. This morning my mom mixed his medicine with 2 small drops of honey and made this really thick paste and my cat seemed to like it a lot. Initially i didnt know and i panicked but he seems to do well as for now. Should i be concerned?
Plus you can just smear it on their paw or face and they will lick it right off.
Worth mentioning that this activity is consistently hilarious because your cat will look at you like you've just committed the ultimate betrayal upon their house every time, then angrily clean it off while trying not to show you they're enjoying it.
Haha yes. My favorite is when they try to shake their paw and it doesn’t budge. Then you get the stink eye as they groom it off of themselves.
I want to add that I've never successfully done this method. It always results in them running through the house full speed, dragging their paw (or wherever I put it) on everything until my house is smeared with goop.
You can't just glob it on. Smear it kinda thin, on top of their paw. Or on the inside of their leg. Against the way their fur grows.
If you put a big glob on their paw pad, yea they're going to smear that everywhere.
If you put a big glob on their face, they're going to shake their head and fling it on the ceiling.
There is a reason I know these things, and it's because I have made these mistakes lol.
Yeah, I've tried that. I think my cats must be wicked smart, but only at times. I've tried to do just a small, trace amount and they just... Rub it on something until it's gone. Or leave it there until it dries up. And that's WITHOUT medicine mixed in. Goblins. All of them.
I used to work in a cat hospital. I know the tricks and most of them work on my cretins. But not that one.
Godspeed then. I had a cat who would pretend to swallow pills. Then walk away from me, and stare at me while she spit it out.
I bought a pill gun for that. Haha. And I hold on until I'm sure it's gone gone.
Googled and seems like it’s not toxic. Look up this yum yuck yum method tiktok video by my jerk cats . I’d use that with churu as the yum for my cat but thankfully havent had to
I personally wouldn't do honey because my cat has blood sugar isdues, the vet told me honey causes a quick spike and to run it on his gums if his sugars get too low.
My mom used to use butter.
You can also use Nutri-Cal. It’s a high calorie paste formulated for pets. It’s the same consistency as honey and very palatable. Plus you can just smear it on their paw or face and they will lick it right off.
