Are they out of their mind? Just read an Electrek article that suggested the company expects to sell over 155K next year. What the hell? These cars are priced at a huge premium. Consumer demand is waning for EVs right now (we’re in between adoption waves). The economy isn’t doing too hot either.

For one, Chinese do not actually prefer domestic brands over foreign brands, if you look at past data, most cars sold in that price range were Mercedes and Audi, and the top selling EV remains Tesla for more than a year each and every month, it has more to do with the fact that Polestar is new and largely unknown brand with no recognition in China. Secondly, go read Tesla’s financials about one third of Tesla’s sales are from China, on par with US and Europe, let alone those more luxurious brands, look at their sales numbers and compare them to those in Europe or America. It’s been that way for quite some time. It’s more about Polestar being unknown and not so competitive. The mindset is basically either buying a well-known and respected brand for a potential premium or buying something great for value. Polestar is neither.

Haha yeah, not gonna comment on that.. 😅 all I'm gonna say is, I'd never buy majority of what sells there. Not because I think quality sucks but all of them have so weird quirks and stuff.

The competition is fierce in China as others mentioned . zeekr 001 is about 34k euros equivalent in rmb vs 60+k in europe.
Other factor by the looks of chinese reviewers, its not 不卷 this refers to the overachiever factor. basically if you look at polestar they don't do much to accommodate the buyers in gimmicks and features. 50w wireless charging, 800v architecture, autopilot compatibility in china, even mini fridges are considered normal.
adding a camera as a mirror is its only unique feature.
Polestar is about 50% more expensive than Zeekr, you wonder why.
Zeekr are the low budget vehicle on Geely. It’s not that quality what you get on polestar

Actually, from what I have seen of the Zeekr variant of the Polestar 4, the quality is pretty similar. The Zeekr just has a different design language.

If they start moving these through dealers globally and get the price right anything’s possible.

That being said, 155k is optimistic but not outrageous. It mostly depends on whether there will be delays or issues around moving production out of China for US exports (tariffs issue).
PS2 is in an unpopular segment but can still likely move 40k units this year. They will likely sell more PS4 than PS2 by 2025, there would be cannibalization but SUVs are more popular so the TAM is much bigger as well. I would guess they think they can sell 50k PS4s and 30k PS2s. PS3s I'm not sure how many they can move given the current economy and rate environment, would guess less than 20k.
The sales figures are also picking up in China and averaging around 1.2k deliveries a month which they didn't have before. So I would guess 2025 deliveries closer to 110k so 155k is optimistic but not wildly so. We've already seen if PS chooses to compete on price then they can move massive volumes with the Costco deal so it's more about business strategy than whether there's enough demand imo.

Definitely a bit early for that, but fairly possible once they figure out all the tariff business and get the PS3 and PS4 really rolling. In actuality, if they dropped the PS4 price by like 10-15k, they could probably sell 155k of those by themselves. The Ioniq 5 by itself sells over 200k units globally. If the premium for the PS4 was only around 5k over an Ioniq 5, it would do spectacularly.

The Polestar 4 shares platform with Zeekr 001 which sold 70k units in 2023. I dont know why Polestar 4 doesnt sell well in China but if it did it would make up almost half of that 155k target.
