so im going to be going on a trip to oil creek state park and it seems to be a popular spot, but i cant seem to find any info on the tent sites. so much about the shelters is online so i figured maybe someone on here could tell me. are the tent sites named and numbered or marked in any way? i want to be at the wolfkiel site for this but just cant seem to find any info. or maybe is it just a big tent site that can only fit 4 people? any info would be helpful, Thanks!
Each of the tent sites are more of a single pretty large open area with a single fire pit. Plenty of space for a bunch of tents. Also surrounded by woods so plenty of hammock spots too. You won't have a private site, but you won't be on top of other people either. I've never had to share the tent site with anyone the 6 or so nights I've stayed in the tent sites, people usually grab the shelters.
Ok so its just a singular tent site then right? I appreciate the helpful comment!
Yeah, think of it as more of an"area" than a "site". They are both fairly big spots, you can get some privacy if you tuck yourself on the edge of the woods. There may even be some spots beyond the treeline, never looked too hard. I usually just set the hammock up at the first two trees I find that work.
I stayed near there last year but I don't remember there being any tent sites inside the park. I was a little disappointed by the park in general. One of the main bridges has been out for what must be quite a long time and it cuts the park in half. I felt like it was desolate and barely maintained. There are a few shelters if you want to backpack. I stayed at Oil Creek Family Campground nearby which was a nice campground but not great for tent sites. Not much privacy.
