In the UK we mainly know that song from the Fun Boy Three version.
Had to look it up on Wikipedia, apparently it was co-written by Jane Wiedlin and Terry Hall.
I love the Go Go's version, but I think the Fun Boy Three version is slightly better.
I always thought the Fun Boy Three version was better
Alex The Seal ? š¦
So many alternate titles, because we couldnāt figure out the lyrics! Iām going with that one!
When this song came out one of my friends thought it was āIām a Sicilianā.
Hush now baby, don't you cry. . .
I thought it was āI live with Cecileā until I saw it in print.
Olive Cecile
Itās definitely Alex the Seal šµšµ
Belinda Carlisle? You mean the drummer from The Germs?
Yep!
What a cheerleader
I always thought they were saying "Olives are peeled." Listening today, I'm still hearing it.
Thatās funny when that happens
Banger
iirc they shot this video without permits. and they partied and kicked more ass than most people on reddit (yeah...including me) šššš
And a pretty funny entry about one of them in the Darby Crash bio, Lexicon Devil.
There is a documentary on them on youtube, where they really get into the weeds about how much partying they got into..
Jane Wiedlin so hot.
This.
I always heardā¦i love cecile.
What are you talking about? This is about the greatest seal that ever lived. ALEX!
Great song, shortly followed by mountains of cocaine. In Belinda's biography she describes how proud she was of herself to be able to cut back her drug and alcohol abuse during her first pregnancy to one glass of wine per day.
That bridge is magic.
when she carries that part as a harmony onto the 3rd verse it's awesome
Belinda Carlisle is so young!

Honest I see you.
Iām not the only one!!!!!!!
I will never forget the VH1 Behind the Music episode about the Go-Goās and learning this song is not about facial lips. š¤£š¤£š¤£
Omg I totally have a new understanding of these lyrics now. Iām an idiot but was an 80s partier, should have realized this well before you told us!
I didnāt know either, but Iāve figured out now that most music is secretly about sex or drugs lol.
The local DJ back then made the joke āWhat canāt the Go-Gos get pregnant?ā
I...always thought they said "how does it feel?"
My mind just got blown and it's not even 7am
The Go-Go's rocking out in '81! Timeless cool.
It sounds cool)
That opening take of the band attempting to stomp their feet and snap together was a choice
They didn't have the Beat yet.
Funny how cute and middle class they look in this, but they were punk rockers before this album.
Written by Terry Hall from the Specials
Co-written by Jane Wiedlin and Terry Hall.
I actually prefer the Fun Boy Three version of this song.
The band that launched Belinda Carlisle.
When I was 7-8 yrs old I had the biggest crush on The Go-Go's and The Bengals. I miss 1980's MTV.
Edit: spelling
Boomer Esiason and Icky Woods were crush worthy so I get it.
Probably Ken Anderson and Charles Alexander in 81
The Bangles. It's a type of bracelet.
I hadn't really considered that store before, but I'm glad its still around.
From a 10/2022 article, "Ā In April, Trashy will celebrate 50 years at its original location, owned and run by the same family, with its goods designed and handmade in-house since the beginning.Ā "
Wow she's timeless
Wife got tickets recently and I THOUGHT they were for Belinda Carlisle. They were, in fact, for Brandi Carlisle. I should have known when I saw all the Subaruās in the parking lot.
Their lips are sealed?! Well thatās an absolute lie.
Girls just wanna hava fun
watch the video with the Closed Captions on, it is some of the best lyrics.
The runaways were probably so cringed out š¤£š¤£ I had the biggest crush on them, had all their 45ās
As kids my friends and I always sang the title as "Our lips are seals" and start making a barking-like noise like seals do, and to this day I still do things like that, all thanks to some guy whose first name is "Weird". Thank you sir.

I remember in school a friend of mine had beauty and the best on cassette, he hated it and gave it to me. It was my guilty pleasure music for several years
