I’ve lived in NC my entire life and always tended to suffer through the summers. I feel like it’s getting worse and worse every year and I fear that with climate change we’re going to be boiling a decade from now. My partner and I love this state but are already talking about moving to a colder place when we’re financially able to. This place will always have my heart but the summers are just too much unfortunately. Anyone else dealing with this?
lol all the people moving here “for the weather”
We left the Houston area for here and it is oceans better here.
The heat and humidity there is becoming unlivable.
I grew up in Dallas and the weather here is very similar to Dallas in the late 1970s and the 1980s.
By the time we left in 2018, the heat actually hurt my body. I honestly felt like I was baking to an extent. The hurricanes, flooding and tornadoes were getting worse and more frequent. There were no seasons. It was hot unless we hit a strong front from Canada. Then we’d have maybe a few days of cold or even ice. But then, right back to hot. AC on Christmas. AC on New Years and Valentines. Year round almost.
So, I truly hope this place doesn’t experience that kind of heat in 10-20 years but it’s definitely a possibility. As are fires and draught.
Moved to WNC mountains from Savannah GA and totally agree with you.
We bought cheap land outside Asheville not long after moving here. It’s not an accident we’re looking at higher elevations. But the heat there already is getting bad.
I’m just outside of Maggie Valley at 2500 ft. I lived in Savannah and was born in Louisiana. Before moving here, my idea of hills was levees. At least we don’t have to worry about hurricanes. Yet.
Just wait. Western NC has a long history of getting hit by the remnants of hurricanes that come up from the Gulf. Over a foot of rain with these storms is not uncommon.
