How do you stop eating when your stomach is full but the food is so delicious?
What about if you are already home?
Then you just store it in a Tupperware box and heat it up as leftovers lol
Put it in a to-go box and bring it back to the restaurant.
Remind yourself that it will also be delicious tomorrow, or later on in the day when you're in need of another meal.
Remind yourself that any emotional fulfilment you're getting from the food can be gained from other places (hobbies, talking to friends, ect) as well.
Remind yourself that you only get one body, and you're going to respect what it's telling you (full)
Make a mental note that next time you eat this item you won't need to serve quite so much of it, as you became full before you finished (with any luck, preventing the problem in future)
This is very kind. ❤️
Look up how to change your gut-biome and change it. Gut-Biome can make you eat when you are past full.
Chug some Keifer or Kombucha and then next time you eat just eat some straight meat or leafy greens only and do that until you change your Gut-Biome to like that stuff and I figure you will want to stop eating.
Worked for me but I still love crap for from time to time.
As Louie C.K said. The meal is not over when I'm full, the meal is over when I hate myself.
I stop eating because I can't stand being nauseous. It makes me very irritable and because with my metabolism, I'll be able to eat again in a few hours, better to wait and actually be able to digest than gorge myself and risk wasting valuable nutrition
Put the spoon down and stop shoveling it in
Interesting question... I usually have a very small appetite and I'm easily satiated as soon as I get that full feeling I literally CANT eat anymore no matter how good it is
yeah same. I sometimes even stop eating before I'm actually full, just satiated (which is apparently also a thing in japanese eating culture IIRC).
This is me, too. When I'm full, my throat almost seems to physically close up and I can't get it to swallow more.
This is a surprisingly interesting comment thread because it's one of those things where there seems to be a ton of variety in people's experiences.
Same. It could be the most delicious meal ever and if I'm full I don't enjoy eating more, it's now uncomfortable not pleasant.
Fork put-downs and table push-aways.
“You’re a stupid fork, your tines are bent and your mother never loved you.”
"And your father smelled of elderberries!"
"I fart in your general direction."
I completely understand this feeling. Generally, I don't seem to be able to sense that full feeling, but especially so when I'm really enjoying something. My best advice is to try to imagine being able to taste it again tomorrow. Knowing that I'm saving it and won't have to make food again for the next day's lunch or supper helps.
Self control.
I start talking about how I wish I had four stomachs like a cow.
Then I think about the gluttony scene in Se7en. That does the trick.
Please tell me when you find out. This was me last night at Texas Roadhouse
I serve myself one serving at a time and put the other individual servings in Tupperware containers in the fridge. I eat one serving and then I know I get to have more later.
It makes more sense to enjoy a little bit multiple times than gorging yourself until you're beyond full because "it's good". It'll be good later, sometimes food even gets better when it's "leftovers".
as soon as i learn it i’ll drop 50 lbs
Not everyone grows up to have a healthy relationship with food due to parents asking their kids to finish everything off their plate and ignore their own feelings of fullness. Intuitive eating comes from listening to their own bodies and not their parents. It's sad, but how it is.
How about takeaway?
The struggle is real!!
Self-control.
The only answer to any "how do I stop myself from"-question.
People should never forget that we are our own masters and free will is not an illusion. Not realizing that by stripping away oneself from any responsibility they effectively kill themselves. Our lives are already written because time is, was and always will be instantaneous, but consciousness is you being an artist and leaving a mark on the canvas of eternity.
Discipline. Eating slowly. Drinking something. Talking/doing something to pass the time. Usually if I pause eating for about 5-10mins I've started digesting and no longer feel hungry. Trying to shove more in after that point will make me queasy or just ruin the 'satisfied' feeling.
This is good advice. I've often caught myself becoming tense when something is particularly delicious and wanting more of it even before I've finished the serving. If I can catch it, then I just put the fork or spoon down down, take a deep breath, and slow down. If there are people I find something to talk about. If not, I go take a pee. Anything to take up some time. Afterwards, I can better manage the meal.
Usually when i feel like i have to throw up that's when i stop when I'm too full but it's also too delicious to stop
You just stop because you feel full. It’s that simple just put the utensil down and save the rest for another day.
You mentally figure how much to save for another meal and box it up. You can then look forward to having another full meal the next day.
you are not alone. when there is something I love, I will never until finished.
If my stomach is full, I don’t really want to keep stuffing it. And then it doesn’t even taste as delicious.
Vanity, mostly. Just being honest. I know what the consequences are of overeating.
Fill up on water.
It will still be good later on, so have the rest for dinner or as a snack some time later
Tell everyone you're bulking, and keep eating until you can't anymore or the food is gone
I cook big meals but put only the healthy-sized portions on our plates and put extras in fridge. Using smaller plates helps to make sure the portions are correct.
Because you are full?
How do you continue?
Decide how much you would need to not eat to make it worth your while to take it home and enjoy it for another meal. Ask for a box and put that much away at the beginning of the meal. Eat what is left.
Added bonus of clean plat club and the brain trigger of seeing an empty plate and being done eating.
For me, I lack interoception and don't recognize if I'm hungry or full. So I just try to I eat on a schedule, and keep it to a certain portion. For the past couple years it's become one giant meal for the whole day though, maybe with a snack a few hours before bed to help me get tired.
Eat more slowly and really savor the food.
Willpower.
You don't. Enjoy it while you can.
I don't
Divide the food into reasonable portions in Tupperwares as soon as you've finished cooking. I use calorie counting to establish what a reasonable portion is. That way, you'll have to struggle less against temptation. Out of sight, out of mind.
Eat slowly and drink lots of water during the meal to feel full faster.
Use a smaller plate or bowl. This seems stupid but really works.
When my stomach is full, eating grosses me out
As someone who was morbidly obese at one point, the answer is discipline. If you can’t force the fork down you won’t be able to put it down.
Discipline comes in waves for me so sometimes it’s easier to do that and other times I feel like you do now. All you can do is take it one day at a time.
Pure willpower. 😄 Safe some for later. Put it in the fridge and eat it tomorow. Or freez it than you can eat it whenever.
Have you considered closing your mouth?
When your stomach is truly full, the food will no longer be delicious
You ask for one of those to-go boxes for leftovers and take it home.
