$10,000 Reward Offered by FBI for Information on Ruidoso Fires - NEW MEXICO FIRES | Federal Bureau of Investigation
That's funny. There were a bunch of know it all assholes in this sub immediately downvoting any mention that these were even possibly arson given the proximity and start times given the lack of lighting in the area immediately prior. Almost like Occam's razor exists for a reason. The FBI must know something random redditors don't.
It kinda sounds like they still don't know exactly what caused the fires and are asking for the public's help in determining that. "Law enforcement officials are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the cause of these fires."
However, if it was a person, and someone is able to identify them, they're offering up that $10k reward.
It really seems like it's still up in the air right now as to how the fires started and they're scouring all options; both human and natural.
We have fires every single year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the FBI get involved. There are people who make a living just determining how fires are started; seems pretty obvious that they know it was man-made.
I've never seen the FBI get involved in a fire investigation here either; but I have seen them investigating arson in other areas and when they're 100% sure it's human caused with a suspect; and the press releases sure weren't shy about mentioning that. It's worded something like "We're seeking information on identifying the suspect(s) in related to the crime of XYZ". They're very explicit that it was no accident, and they're investigating a crime.
This is just one press release, and it might just be worded ambiguously on purpose to not show their whole hand; but at this time it still really sounds like they're keeping all avenues open and not jumping to any conclusions about how they've started.
Personally, I'm not intending on jumping to any conclusions just yet either.
It is because the fires started on the reservation.
Maybe because this one likely involves people on an Indian reservation and the very sticky legal issues with that....
