Clark County schools to ban cellphones for middle, high schoolers - The Nevada Independent
[Education]Here's three:
- Educational tools; AI, calculators, learning apps, etc.
- School shootings; kids should be able to call 911 at all times.
- Family emergencies; families should be able to access their family members at all times.
Read my previous reply so I don't need to repeat myself regarding school shootings. And you can use AI, calculators, learning apps, etc. on a Chromebook, yes?
you can also look up tiktok on a chromebook. so ban computers obviously. no electronics period. also no pencils or pens just in case someone draws something inappropriate. no paper just in case someone makes a paper airplane. no rubber bands. staples can be used as a very very low-speed projectile from a stapler, better ban that. books have been used as weapons that can't be good better ban those
I've literally never seen a student attempt that. Been in the field a while now.
you've never seen a paper airplane? or you've never seen someone use a laptop to look up videos?
because i literally was the kid looking up videos on my laptop at school in class a couple times. not always class-relevant ones too. games are on calculators too, ever play puzzpack?
phones being capable of many functions doesn't make them special in terms of being able to act as a distraction. it just makes them an easy target.
also, putting them in a faraday bag will make them run out of power quickly and cause calls and texts to be completely missed, and any other kind of measure either is completely toothless (if the phone is still with them) or is ripe for abuse (if it is taken or placed in a communal area)
Sure, you can abuse any tech. Not denying that. Just pointing out it's a lot easier to be sneaky with a phone.
And fun fact: Teachers can actually monitor Chromebook activity with Go Guardian.
this is why i use linux not chromeos with a school ownership lock
