Man really said I’d rather drown than go to Boston, that’s the level of hate I aspire to
I believe that's what the kids today call "based".
Same. I HATED anything Boston in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s. Now? Meh. I think I just hated the guys like Pedro, Manny, Ortiz, Pedroia, Varitek, Nomar, Papelbon, and the rest of those jerks.
Based
Tbh I think they’re fairly realistic these days. Most of the people I interact with are Red Sox fans and they’re pretty level headed when it comes to talking about baseball.
I’m able to gush over Judge and Soto and they’re either on the same page as me and agree, or they just let me have it. Not so much hate or general “fuck those guys” response just because they’re Yankees.
Their ownership being dog shit has turned them from the stereotypical cocky Sox Fan to just a depressed/annoyed (at their own team) Sox fan.
They still love the sport and are good “baseball fans” even with their team being terrible. They’ll still know the stats on some no-name call up that just got brought up a couple weeks ago and know who their top prospects are.
TL;DR: Depressed, hate their ownership, not as arrogant, and pretty realistic nowadays. I almost feel bad for them. ALMOST
They’ve all mostly moved onto the Celtics since the Pats and Sox are in peril. Feel like a lot of them aren’t even that high on Drake Maye. Speaking of Celtics, this might be the easiest path to the finals I’ve seen in my lifetime. Hopefully the lack of being tested will bite them in the ass in the finals
Tbh, mostly irrelevant right now. Imo Astros and Blue Jays fans surpassed them in the shit head book.
Same. Some Astros fans will never accept that their team’s nefarious cheating costed a lot players jobs, careers, money, and a fair chance at a championship. What they did is appalling… and the perpetrators got away with it.
I find some Blue Jays fans to just be pretentious. Their team hasn’t even gotten to a World Series since Clinton was in office.
Yes, I hate the Red Sox culturally, but I have a seething active hate for the Asstros.
Self-loathing.
Note their traditional chant; "yankees suck, yankees suck".
Not "the Yankees suck".
And what do you call people from New England? That's right, yankees. It's themselves they hate.
So the real chant for bostonian's is "suck yankees" that checks out
Right after they call us their Daddy.
I respect Boston sports fans. They are spoiled and entitled for all the recent winning, but they are legit.
Philadelphia sports fans to be are the worst. I respect Eagles fans as they are incredible fanbase. However the other teams (especially Phillies and 76ers) only are supported when they are good. This supposed hard core sports fanbase allows Mets and Knicks fans to flock their stadium when the team isn’t winning.
I do think Boston has become less of a baseball town recently, but I totally get it. Their owner appears to be out to lunch and focused on European soccer.
yeah honestly after the first round of the playoffs i can truly say i despise philly with all my being
I think Toronto fans are the worst. They are also only supported when good and the insane amount of casuals that show up who barely know the rules but will still talk shit or act like their team is god’s gift to earth, is nauseating. Boston fans are always around and they’re scumbags but they’re real fans who know the game
I respect Eagles fans as they are incredible fanbase.
I just got into football last year and they are without a doubt the worst football fans I’ve seen thus far.
As a Boston fan for everything except baseball I can testify to this. Not only spoiled with championships but with solid play too. Very few seasons where any team is sub.500. Notable exception is the Patriots who just came off a 20 year dynasty where the afc championship was basically t the New England patriots invitational
There is nothing to respect about boston fans. They are racist and cheer when people get hurt and hypocrites
“However the other teams only are supported when good”
91-95 the phillies had higher attendance to us - because we sucked
You obviously didn’t go to Yankee Stadium in the 80’s and early 90’s. And if you’re too young, watch a yankeeography. The Saint Louis Cardinals had Mets had higher attendance than the Yankees.
Yanks from 2004-08 …only Baseball team to draw 4 million for 5 years consecutively
Um ya, they were good then & had many superstars on the team.
Not the point I was making.
Grew up in LI but have lived in Boston the last 10 years. Yankee and Sox fans are two sides of the same coin despite the rivalry not being what it used to be.
Pats fans were the worst by the way, less so now because their team isn’t immortal anymore, but Pats fans will always be the worst. Sox fans know the game and have the same passion as we Yankee fans.
Boston trash
Reading these comments is making me feel a lot better about taking my first trip to Fenway for a Yankees game in July. If they’re as bad as we are at home I can handle it
Don’t sit in Fenway bleachers with NY gear.
As long as you don’t cause a fight, you’ll be fine
You should absolutely go to Fenway for a Yankee game. It is a great traditional ballpark and the energy is electric. Perfectly fine to wear Yankee garb. Just don't overreact when when someone says something provocative.
Sawx have #1 pitching ERA in Baseball, Yanks #2.We have Soto and Judge , Mookie RJ and Bogarts long gone. I expect a NYY series win..especially if Cole back
They are almost a mirror to how we are. However, much more bitter from decades of losing.
They try to act like this blue collar working class team still all while having a huge payroll every time they win. The hypocrisy is truly amazing.
My best friend is a Red Sox fan I'm happy to say he's a giant piece of s*** for being a Red Sox fan
So well put!
We’re their daddy
They’re less obnoxious than Astros fans
Better than they used to be, but basically human.
I don’t think about them.
But actually, I live in Boston and go to at least one Sox game every week. They’re harmless. They drink too much. I’ve had really good experiences and some poor experiences. Things have simmered down since 20-25 years ago.
Obsessed. I went to a BoSox game once at Fenway. It was a Saturday afternoon game against KC.
Outside of Fenway, vendors were selling Yankee's Suck t-shirts, stickers, etc....
If the Yankees are playing KC on a Saturday afternoon, there would be ZERO chance I would see anyone selling anything that mentions Boston.
I remember getting a “bashton sacks cack” shirt and on the back it said “and Dice K swallows” lmao. I must’ve been like 9 years old
I mean Yankees have these kind of shirts too for the Sox. I definitely bought a Boston sucks Cack shirt outside of the stadium one year
Yeah that always was weird. They do it at patriots games too. Part of their entire identity and culture is us. How pathetic
Not true..Yanks fans in old Stadium, Bleacher creatures opening roll call at end of it included’ Let’s go Yankees ,Boston sucks, Mets suck!’
15 years ago.....
That is a roll call. I'm talking every vendor outside of Fenway was selling Yankee's Suck merch prior to a game that didn't even involve the Yankees.
Dirty
Don't worry guys, you can speak freely here. None of them can read.
Cat. C A T
Misguided
In the 20th century I think Boston sports fans generally were passionate about sports as a community the way no other city was. That passion is still the same today. They’re a sports town, no question. It’s why I don’t want to live in Boston, even though I’m from New England - your entire social life gets wrapped up in sports one way or another. It’s part of the fabric of New England, since New England doesn’t really have college sports the way a lot of the country does elsewhere.
The difference then to now though, specifically for Red Sox fans, is that they had a somewhat downtrodden loser reputation that was very similar to the Brooklyn Dodgers and their fans in the ‘30s-‘50s. Once the Sox won, and once the city in general got titles in all four sports several times over in the span of a decade, the mentality totally changed. Boston fans expect to win now. That’s a drastic change from the decades prior to 2004, where they all expected to lose and in humiliating fashion.
In my opinion it made the rivalry less fun, because a David vs. Goliath story doesn’t have a part 2 after David finally beats Goliath. Now the Yankees and sox are just rivals, and still big rivals. But there isn’t the fun of ghosts and curses anymore, I miss that. But I enjoy playing the Sox because their fans are still really invested, especially when the Yankees and Red Sox are both competing for a division title.
Boston n Brooklyn not as similar as you think.Sox won the first WS(as the Pilgrims) and then were arguably the team of the 1910 s Winning 3 World Series. They started losing from 1920-1946 cause owner broke up their dominant 1915-1918 team…many stars going to the Bronx
The Dodgers were in WS in ‘16 and ‘20 , lost both and then like Red Sox were awful from ‘1921-1940.
After 1946 Brooklyn was the best NL overall team from 1947-1966.Facts… From 41 to 55, it took them five tries vs Yanks before they could win a WS vs Bronx Bombers. From 1941-1966 Dodgers were in the WS 11 times! Winning 4 of them. Boston from 1921-1999 were in the World Series 3x times only ! Winning none and losing all 3 WS in 7 heart breaking games. Red Sox were not in the same comparison as Dodgers except for some heartbreaking moments The big ones combined? Mickey Owens in ‘41 WS vs Yanks, Bobby Thomson Hr vs Giants in ‘51,Last two games of reg season Boston vs NY in ‘49,Joe D, and then ‘75 Game 7 vs Reds , Bucky Dent in ‘78 playoff game and Game 6 Sawx vs Mutts in 86 WS. Dodgers were a great team save their first 7 World Series losses
Speaking freely, at least the ones I interact with, are actually some of the most well-versed baseball fans I know. And rivalry or not, I can always appreciate that. Makes the rivalry conversations that much better, too.
Obnoxious
Live in Boston area. When the team is good, they are gonna be in your face about it. They will not shut up about how good their team is. Look at the Pats run and the Celtics.
Lemme tell ya though, when their teams are bad, wow do they bail fast. They do not go to Pats games or even speak about the Pats anymore. I work in a factory with a lot of people who wear Red Sox hats every day. I ask them about how the team is doing because I want to talk some shit. They'll tell you they haven't watched a game in weeks. They have no idea who is even in the lineup.
Boston has a lot of "fans" in general. But, they are only fans when the team is good. Just my experience.
After Celts go down(if no KP),and Sawx and Pats bottom dwellers, Bruins only decent team. Boston dominance is over…finally
Cunts
Who?
In the hbo show winning time, towards the end of the first season, there is a description of playing in Boston. How gross it is, how you can feel it in your skin. It’s a different sport but I thought it captured the atmosphere of Boston sports fandom pretty well
Growing up in Connecticut, there was nothing worse than a Red Sox fan. Bitter, angry and vile, they are kind of creatures that terrorize young children in stories.
Winning a shitload has chilled them out a little bit. Although a lot of their bad traits were just replaced with different bad traits, like being Smug, Loud and Prideful.
Now, they've kind of slipped back into some of their former obnoxious tendencies.
Racist.
It took a team literally cheating the entire sport for Yankee fans to feel even a sliver of what they feel for Boston 🤮
Ummmm Boston sucks
We should feel sorry for them.
Fuck em
Honestly a little fair weather at this point. I don’t know what it is but I feel like I don’t know as many die hard fans anymore. I’d say most of the fans I know don’t watch many games. I grew up right in the middle of it and the rivalry used to be alive and well and people would talk baseball constantly.
Maybe because their players don’t have the charisma of their teams of old like Manny, Papi, and Pedro. Even though us Yankee fans haven’t had as much success in recent years we were lucky to go from Jeter being our captain and the face of our franchise to Judge who is clearly on a hall of fame trajectory.
Maybe due to their success in other sports they’ve just become spoiled and can’t stand mediocrity. Even though basketball and hockey are the only things they can hang their hat on nowadays.
Oh cmon…from 2001-2024, Sawx 4 Championships Yanks 1…both now have crappy ownership that are far more interested in other ventures than their Baseball teams scaling to the heights of the sport.Hence theirs no juice anymore.Red Sox started the collapse letting Betts go…unthinkable!
I can't blame them for not wanting to watch as much right now considering they have let their team go into ruin. Trading Mookie killed all the excitement for them.
Annoying, hypocritical, and jealous.
I always consider Red Sox fans to be very similar to Yankees fans in knowledge and expectations and passion/obnoxiousness/pride. We just root for opposite sides. That’s in general— since their ownership has gotten…. Disinterested? … in baseball it’s not been quite same for them.
Dumb, racist, delusional
David Ortiz did steroids, all you need to know.
Red Sox fans are, by and large, typical Massholes.
Once dumped a girl because she later on told me she was a Red Sox fan. She ended up becoming a solid cosmetic surgeon. Bleep 🤬Her and Bleep 🤬 Boston Red Sox
self censors… “Disney-dad”… on brand.
“This is the way”
You re stupid…and…I’m proud of you!
Insecure.
Those RS fans who still believe in an ancient rivalry, don't even know what it's based on anymore.
Bless their hearts.
Great fans, loyal and passionate. They just root for the wrong team 😂
Overly aggressive Assclowns
Siblings who will literally stab you in the kidney if the opportunity is right.
Buncha d*cks 😭
Went to fenway once for a ALDS game & they were actually really polite to me (an extremely obnoxious Yankee fan)
Watching the Red Sox get their first championship in 86 years amidst the Yankees reign in the late 90’s early 2000’s hard to say a bad thing about them. On that note I miss how baseball was 20 years ago.
Fuck’em
I pay them no mind.
Probably normal like us. Work at an office, hates their boss/lives, wears some team merch and takes their frustrations out on opposing fans online
Usually very angry and when they realize I’m a Yankee fan, they’re becoming friendly
1999-2006 it was out of control, the hatred between the 2 fan bases…closest thing to Brklyn Dodgers vs NY Giants
they used to think that all we used to do is talk about our championships, then they became one of the most successful teams in the last 25 years and wouldn't you know, they became just like "us"
I live in Boston as a Yankee fan, and if I wear a Yankee hat, there are ALWAYS comments. The difference between Yankee and Red Sox fans...if a Red Sox fan was walking in NYC, NOBODY GIVES A SHIT.
Not since 2004, at least. Before that, they got a lot of shit for it.
Pimples on our ass
Red Sox fans today are very different than the 1970’s-2010’s. Winning too the chip off the shoulder. Yankees fans no longer chanting 1918 is huge. It’s just not the same hate and therefore the fan bases in general aren’t like the past. That said, fuck the Red Sox.
I know a couple Red Sox fans and they are realistic and pretty chill. I also watch Robbie Hyde and Red Seat Radio on YouTube and both are Red Sox fans, but they are totally chill and welcome Yankees fans in the comments section and live streams.
They are more upset at their ownership and the bad play and roster than the Yankees at the moment.
75-80…an amazing rivalry…and dangerous in the Stadium. Many many fights and no cops 98-2006 …incredible epic games.03-04 like nothing Baseball s seen save Brooklyn vs Giants
They’re people who grew up in a different area than me and like their local team. Grow up.
As a transplant living in Maine, Red Sox fans here seem to fall into one of two camps:
- Knowledgeable, logical and level-headed. They know the current team as well as prospects names and stats and will talk baseball all day.
- I go to a dozen or more Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox AA Affiliate) games every year and these are the majority of fans I find there. I enjoy interacting with them and welcome any shit talk that they may give when they realize that I'm there as a baseball fan and not a Red Sox homer. I wear Yankees stuff when Somerset is in town but wear a Sea Dogs hat for all of other games. I do only wear their retro colors from when they were affiliated with the Marlins. I'm supporting my local ball club, not the fuckin' Red Sox.
- Obnoxious, unintelligent shitheads.
- These are the ones that see me on the street in a Yankees hat or see my Yankees tattoo and yell "Fuck the Yankees!" but then say something along the lines of "I don't even watch baseball, bro" if I try to strike up a healthy baseball debate. These are also the people that became "lifelong" Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans sometime around March 20, 2020 and are also the same people that were Giants fans in 1999 (if they were born yet).
As someone living in New England, fat. I'd describe them as fat. and racist.
Insignificant.
Middle child. Also racist
Red Sox fans would rather have their team finish 1-161 with the one win being against the Yankees and them miss the playoffs by one game than have their own team win a World Series.
Piss people who love to fight.
People are people. Are you personally a certain way because you like the Yankees? Or do you have your own unique personality?
I don’t mind OG Red Sox fans who were born into it, as much. Be as obnoxious as you wanna be if you were born in Dorchester or wherever shithole in BAHstin.
BUT there’s a newer type of Red Sox fan who is about 20-35 years old and only likes them because they were winning from ‘04-‘18. These dickriding bandwagon fans are from anywhere and nowhere and I wish another hundred years of drought upon them.
White trash
insufferable
I don’t have any blanket opinions about any fan bases.
Like any fan base, a sector of Red Sox fans still brag about old glory - and their case, the illegitimate 2018 World Series win. But I respect their passion and knowledge.
They’re not humans. Just kidding but I do hate them.
Even worse than Yankee fans
Prior to breaking the curse, Red Sox fans had one mission, BEAT THE YANKEES.
Boston was in a weird position in the early 00s. It was like 20/30 year removed from Celtics championships and Bruins championship but their Baseball team was getting very close to winning one and their football team that was mainly an afterthought suddenly got really fucking good.
I think when you become really good, you break out of your traditional rivalries. Like who the fuck cares about the Astros before 2017. Now Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox and all of the MLB HATE them. I think Red Sox broke out of that just Yankees hatred a bit and realized there was more to baseball than us lol.
But then everything exploded, 4 rings in baseball in 14 years, the greatest football dynasty, and Bruins and Celtics got rings.
But now it’s on the other end of an insane run where they got like 12 rings and countless finals apperances in a 15 year span.
Pats are back to irrelevant and might take time to comeback. Sox are just okay. Bruins have been disappointing in post season and Celtics are now one ring in 40 years despite coming close.
Celtics MUST win or they’re blowing their core, whereas before any championship was welcomed, now it might be their only chance. But the fans somehow chant Fuck The Knicks which is weird they’re concerned with us
It does feel like they are MORE concerned with us than we are them.
That said I’m not worried as a NY fan
Yankees clear the Celtics anyday. Only 4 of 17 Celtics championship came during the 3pt era. There was like 8 teams in the league back then. Yes Yankees have the early history too, but guess what, since 1994 we have 5 rings, that’s still the most in the last 30 years in the MLB.
So I think our best team is much better than theirs.
Give me Giants > Pats. 2x in the SB and we have 2 more SBs and 4 NFL championships, making us 8x champs.
Rangers and Bruins kinda a toss up. Bruins probably better but both have like one ring in last 50 years and are both O6 teams.
But I guess Red Sox murder the Knicks lol
90% of the ones i've interacted with over the years are fine, mind you I live in Colorado so I don't tend to run into the super hardcore ones. Usually can have a fine baseball discussion no problem.
incontinent.
Angry little elfs
I doubt my answer is going to be popular here, but overwhelmingly positive.
My first Yankee game at Fenway Park was on Thursday, August 2, 2018. CC Sabathia was the starter, and he got absolutely rocked; they ended up losing the game 15-7. At one point when we were already down a billion runs I went to the bar to get a round for myself and my friends. While I was waiting on line the guy behind me, observing my hat and jersey, said, "Yankee fan eh? Tough game for you guys. Tell you what, I've got your round." I was flabbergasted.
I am not sure if they are dumber than they are ugly, or uglier than they are dumb. Their collective IQ is roughly the same as their looks on a 1-10 scale.
It’s weird to say this now as someone who grew up in the Jeter led Yankees era vs the Ortiz/Manny led Red Sox era, but most interactions I’ve had with Sox fans have been pretty cool even at Yankee stadium. They’re just like us in a lot ways. Passionate, Cocky, Loud, and Proud of their team. Still hate the Sox cause screw Boston but they’re nothing compare to Philly fans.
Rivalry is at an all time low
One word - Jerkoffs
Never in my life did I think the Patriots AND Red Sox would be complete poverty at the same time…. It’s fucking awesome lol
People who like to root for the Boston Red Sox baseball franchise. Just like every other team, including ours, they run the gamut from salt of the earth to straight up dick suck moron 🤷🏻♂️
Stupid and jealous.
Like a little brother.
They’re always around, trying to impress, and out do us but as hard as they try they never will. As much as they try to beat us (like a brother) big brother always wins
Sub human
Very classy.
Hot garbage. Shit city with shit people.
Realistically it's insane how good they think they are compared to their history / performance. You'd think they'd have won 27ws the way they act. I think it's because they are a mono team in the northeast. No one thinks about baseball here and if they do they tend to follow the closest.
I really really really... Really hate the fucking shithole of a park they think is wonderfully historic. Modern MLB prices with 1920s design... Awful. They had piss troughs up until recently if I recall correctly.
You can't hate on Fenway, it's a beautiful stadium. Yeah it's poorly built but preserving some history in baseball is wonderful. I wish the old Yankee Stadium could've been properly renovated.
That's the ultimate problem... It's good to keep some historical parks but not Fenway.
Keep Wrigley... Burn Fenway, literal shit box.
So no I absolutely can keep hating Fenway. I hate it almost as much as I hate Boston fans. Honestly the only Boston element I respect is the actual team (except when they were cheating). Everything else about that city is garbage.
Godzilla KoM ending was probably one of the best of all time... Clearly written by a Yankee fan lmaoo
Fat, bearded, and obnoxious, just like the Sock players they adore.
As a Yankee fan living in the North Shore of Mass, they are fine. Going to Fenway isn't always the most enjoyable other than for the experience of attending a game at one of the last remaining old parks, but for the most part, I never really think about them. There are a surprising number of us here, probably transplants from other areas. The first time I wore my Yankee hat in public, I thought I was getting looks for it, as it turns out that was in my head.
RED SUX
Much respect for Sawx fans…passionate, knowledgeable…but way obnoxious
I burned my 1918 hat in 2004. It looked just like a Sox hat. I about wept. Fuck the Red Sox
I don’t think about them at all anymore. Also, when my grandfather was a senior in high school he was invited to training camp with the Red Sox. But he was a Yankees fan so he decided he’d rather join the Navy and fight the Japanese in WWII instead, even though he couldn’t swim. Fuck Boston.
