I'm not sure where Wemby is hanging out on offense if Giannis is on the court. On defense you have to play Jokic at center because he's just going to get destroyed on the perimeter. That means you have Wemby nominally defending power forwards and Giannis defending quicker small forwards.
It all sounds stupid until you think. Maybe there's a coach like Eric spolstra who throws enough spaghetti on the wall to make it stick

I would argue their pairing is the perfect marriage. Giannis covers for Luka's weak point of attack defense. Luka's range makes Giannis a menace inside. Their pick and roll pairing would be impossible to switch as you'd be inviting a smaller defender onto Giannis who can just rampage to the rim.

I think giannis offball rim protection covers lukas deficiencies as a point of attack defender. Lukas has already shown he is at least top 3 in throwing lobs to find the roller in pick n roll which giannis would excel at. Giannis can take offensive load throughout the game to conserve Lukas energy and get other teams in foul trouble, and then luka has more energy to be the best closer in basketball. Yall are crazy for thinking that isn’t a great fit. Surround them with 2-3 other shooters and that team is winning multiple titles.

Like I said, it’s not that they couldn’t do it, they just don’t compliment each other, you’re just turning him into a glorified rim runner. At that point he’d be no better with Luka than AD would. Im not saying they’d be bad together, but if you’re just trying to build the best starting 5 possible, turning Giannis into AD (with slightly worse defense) isn’t doing that.

This is a heinous take lol. Luka’s the best player in the world offensively. He shoots 10 3s a game and spoon feeds his teammates 9 times a game. Giannis dominates inside offensively and his weakness is perimeter offense. His defense inside also makes up for Luka’s crap perimeter defense. I don’t think there’s a better potential pairing in the entire league.

You could take a Donavan Mitchell type guard as a scoring threat and have an almost unstoppable team (salaried would probably never work) but when the two above are both in their prime, really give Wemby a year or two…… a third star probably isn’t required. Just a few guys that are high end like Jrue Holiday (on the high end.)Josh heart on the low end. Glue guys that can do a little bit of everything.

If it's today's game and we have to think about salary cap... the starting SF is Jaylen Brown. The SG is Luka Kennard. The PG is Jrue Holiday. Jrue & Jaylen Brown are elite 2way players & Kennard has a career average of 46% from 3 over his past 4 seasons in the NBA. Good luck.
If it's all time, my PG is Steve Nash & my SG is prime 2-way Klay Thompson. Both Wemby & Giannis would benefit from a pass first elite PG, and Steve Nash is one of, if not the best shooter the NBA has ever seen. He has 4 out of the 14 only 40/50/90 seasons, means he owns 28.5% of that record by himself. Klay was elite on defense and arguably the best catch & shoot 3p shooter to ever exist. I'm taking 2015-16 Kawhi at the 3.
