A bit click bait title, but seriously, when Bethesda changed perks (in Skyrim and Oblivion), so that you could get weight reduction when wearing specific types of armor, they made the distinction between heavy and light (or medium and unarmored, RIP) pointless.

The whole idea of heavy armor, is that it offers more protection, but at a cost of weight.

When you reduce heavy armor weight by just half, you either make heavy armor the objectively best choice, or (when the weight benefit applies to light as well) you make the choice between the two types pointless.

I honestly think, that the most interesting way to deal with armor, is to let it remain perk free. Let heavy armor be annoyingly heavy, but offer great protection.

The only thing an armor skill should do, is increase protection value.

Because having your choice in armor type actually matter, also in end game, is fun.
