Complaints from active duty military who have been harassed by debt collectors is up 187% in California and 67% in Texas. For perspective, the national average is up 35%. Why is this? Anyone serving in these states have an idea? Any JAG officers out there seeing this?

Because the economy is in shit and people can’t afford to pay their debts so more debts are owed. It’s not that the collectors are increasing in numbers, it’s that people who struggling to pay for food and housing is increasing. Sure there are shitty people who just don’t care but the number of good, hard working people who are struggling is up as well.
Hi all. I'm a journalist writing about how predatory lenders and collection agencies harass military service members. I am looking to connect with former or active military service members and their families who have been victims of abuse or intimidation from lenders and are willing to share their stories. Please LMK ASAP if you can help. Thanks!
