missed the northern lights :/

Tonight between 10pm and 2am is supposed to be even MORE intense than last night! Set an alarm :). We saw it very clearly in Fenton. You should be able to experience it tonight as long as you stay up!

I sort of felt this way when I didn’t drive to see the eclipse. I had forgotten about it till now so it will go away for you I bet too. Try again tonight!

Make some coffee, get to a dark place, and have your camera set to long exposure/night mode. Your pics will show you what you can't see with the naked eye. It's gonna be showtime soon!

And we may see more throughout the year!

The Sun is having an active year. There will be other chances. I saw them 3 times from southern MI in 2002-04.

We will have more chances in 2024 and 2025 to see the northern lights in Michigan! It’s a great year for it as the sun is more active

Find a place with minimal cloud cover and no lights. The colors are not as vibrant to the eye as they are in photos but it’s still very impressive and worth the effort to see them.

Also, they come and go FAST. Plan to be out between 9pm-1am for your best chances.

Felt this, I had to miss the eclipse too last month, so the feelings are definitely hard to grapple with. I was unaware of the NL and heartbroken this morning, hoping I get to redeem myself tonight.

I got it worse, haha. I missed the northern lights because i was on a plane to Europe, who also had the northern lights. we didn't get them on the plane, and we also got delayed 35 mins due to the solar flare messing with the GPS. so we lost our bags due to a close connection.

so... no northern lights, and no clothes on vacation.

If you live 20 minutes from Mackinac, this isn't the first time you've missed them.

You have a great chance tonight and you live in such a prime area away from city lights. Good luck! I also was late to the party last night. Made it an hour north at midnight but most of the show was over with and they were barely visible to the naked eye. Going to try again tonight.

I decided to yolo from Ypsilanti to Mackinaw, I’m going to take my chances with my camera.

Me and my bf tried to watch them in S.Rockwood and were able to see it a little but then decided "fuck it lets go north" and we saw them in Grosse Pointe, it was very cool! Im home in Downriver so hopefully i catch more!

this happened to me too, I fell asleep, my mom got to see it, showed me a picture and the regret filled my body it was so beautiful and I missed it, I get how you feel it's horrible I'm also hoping it comes back

I drove all the way from Detroit to Mackinac city and it was cloudy from 8:30 to 1:30am. Most disappointing trip of my life so far. I’m sure there will be more chances to see them though as someone mentioned earlier that this year, sun is more active.

They can be difficult to see to the naked eye, but a camera will pick up the colors beautifully. Fingers crossed they are out tonight too, will be wishing for you to be able to see them tonight my friend! ❤️

The lights r visible down to Florida apparently. From what ive heard at least. They’ll be visible all week.

They’re not dancing currently , see barely visible green currently on TC. But the storm last night was once in 20 years sadly. Still good chance tonight to see them. But last night was the “peak” of this weekend

I saw it! In Rochester. For a brief 15 minutes. It was beautiful.

There were clear northern light 2 hours ago (around 12:30am) at Newberry, upper Michigan. Very clear that can see it dancing. Think there might be another one around 4-5am.

I had trees in the way. I've seen them once. Wish I'd seen them again.

Went out 11:30 Friday night, 10:30 Saturday. Didn't see nuthin'.

Live and let live friend... it's not that big of deal. The pictures are pretty too. They come a lot more often than eclipses too.

I was going to drive the 3.5 hours to the bridge tonight because I missed them last night too, but the forecast has been week. But you never know. There might be a show around midnight. The forecast actually shows around 5am to be the highest.

WAITING FOR THE NEXT CME: A geomagnetic storm is underway, but it is relatively minor (G1/G2). Conditions won't intensify again until the next CME arrives. NOAA forecasters are currently predicting a return to extreme (G4/G5) storming on May 12th. We think May 13th is more likely when a CME from yesterday's X5.8-class flare is expected to arrive.

Next total solar eclipse travels across greenland and Iceland, both fantastic locations to catch the northern lights. I'm planning a vacation for August 2026 to catch the eclipse and hoping for the bonus of Northern Lights during the event. Plenty of time between now and then to plan!

Supposedly, the solar storm that's causing the northern lights is supposed to continue through tonight, so there's a good chance we'll be able to see them again.

You will have many opportunities to see them again living in the north country, don't you worry. These are the most vivid in years though so it's cool you got out there!

Wait for a cold, clear winter night. One with clear skies and no clouds. If you look to the north after dark, you may see a thin, subtle layer of "clouds" or "moisture" appearing to reflect light near the horizon. Those aren't clouds, that is the aurora. It's just that because most folks picture seeing the northern lights in this brilliant dancing phenomenon, they can miss out on how subtle the lights can be. And once you learn to identify it, the more you'll see it.

I have the northern lights tattooed on my arm so I already see them every day :)

Mate, I know it's a great occurance and rare sight in Michigan. But calm down. You missed it, move on. C'est la vie
