Lol its the English pronunciation of "Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" written in Korean.
If "Surrey Hills" is that long in Korean, I can't imagine how long would it take to write "Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty"...
"Surrey Hills" is just five characters. 서레이 힐스. If "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" was not phoneticized as "에어리어 오브 아웃스탠딩 네츄럴 뷰티"(which would seem very unnatural and unnecessary to a native speaker) it would definitely be shorter.
London is significantly larger than Seoul. However, the population is larger in Seoul. London 8 million Seoul 10 million
The population of the metropolitan area is 14 million in London and 26 million in Seoul.
Is the map showing the metropolitan area or just the city? Just curious.
He is wrong, he is showing Greater London
As someone who used to live there, Greater London is simply London to most people.
That makes a lot of sense. It is like the city of Sydney, which is just the CBD, but everybody considers Sydney as the greater Sydney, which includes lots of city councils and is spread between the Central Coast to Wollongong and from the coast to the Blue Mountains.
Greater lonon is not metropolitan area.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_London
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/London
You'll see this
London proper=greater london+city of london
Just the city
No, you clearly highlighted Greater London
Greater London is not metropolitan London.
I think they were responding to OP saying the city, the city refers to a specific region of London that follows the old Roman walls and is administered differently.
Yeah, this is what I meant
Greater London is proper.that population 8~9million
Greater London is the city proper while "The City" is the CBD where nobody lives.
The population of Greater London's grown a lot in the past 20-30 years and it's now closer to 9 million.
Over 9 million actually
Your numbers are off. Greater London is over 9 million and if Metropolitan Seoul is 26M than London is close to 20M.
Really struggling to see the colour difference (slightly colourblind) could the red be darker?

While I'm not colorblind and can see both colors fine, I agree that the red does need a change.
Same, it took me a good minute to even see an outline and it’s really hard to keep track of
The smaller outline is Seoul, the bigger outline enclosing Seoul is Greater London.
What bigger outline? (I think you missed what it means to be colourblind.)
The bigger outline with a translucent green colored inside.
The problem is that there is only one area visible for the red-green colourblind, if the larger was green and smaller blue, then it would be good. Green and red are just the same in this picture, there is no two zones.
Maybe you should compare metropolitan areas instead of administrative divisions that don't reflect the true sizes of the conglomerations.
Yeah, Seoul goes one for quite a bit outside of the city proper. Before moving to Seoul, London was the biggest city I've ever visited. The Seoul metro area is so mind boggelingly big. London's suburbs and outskirts feel like small towns. Meanwhile Seoul's outskirts seem like large cities in their own right. Incheon and Suwon are both pretty much connected to the city and have over a million inhabitants each. Also Seoul isn't as centralised as London is IMO. There is no real city centre.
And the weirdest part is within the city proper there's plenty of mountains and forests. The places that are inhabitated are therefore even more densely populated than in London.
Living in South Korea and England, which of the two felt more crowded??
I mean I spent a lot of time in England because of family but I never lived there. SK is veeeeery crowded at times. But England can have its moments. Overall SK is a bit more hectic. It's remarakable how similar the coubtries are in area and population.
The Greater London boundary more or less reflects the extent of the urban area
No it doesn't there's a least a million people who live in the urban area but outside the greater London boundaries. Plus the Greater London boundary includes a good bit of non-urban space especially around the edges. And Urban area isnt the best way of measuring London's extent because the green belt exists which artificially constricts London's urban area and creates lots of satellite towns which are seperate from the main urban area by slithers of protected green space
That's why I said "more or less". You've got a few satellite towns like Watford or Slough but otherwise it's not that bad an approximation compared to, say, Paris
Exactely this. If Seoul is 26M (and it is) than London is close to 20M
What's the site called
That explains why south korea is so much nicer, they've very cleverly avoided building up in Croydon.
From living there, I can definitely say, you’re right lol
If you dropped Seoul into London the traffic would be horrid.
You should've added some sort of red outline for Seoul.
Imagine Seoul’s population is nearly three time bigger than Busan, second largest city in South Korea
3? Try 6.
London's population is almost eight times larger than that of the second largest city, Birmingham.
Seoul is WAY bigger than what you’re showing. Why don’t you overlay the old city of London over the entire metro of Seoul, the Seoul that stretches all the way to the container ports in the west
That I mentioned in a comment. see the comment at the top
Seoul is bigger (26M) but London is als close to 20M using the same metrics.
I don't see any red? Or is that somehow the joke?
Are you colourblind?
Yes.
My eye and brain indicate that colour is red
Hmm..if not, that is pink?
Now do the map overlay of Seoul and London toilets that can flush toilet paper.
My brain keeps wanting to see the red as Inner London
It looks suspiciously like it, it would actually be a pretty good alternative definition of Inner-London!
I have a some question, if you live in London and Seoul, which city feels more crowded? Is there anyone who has lived both??
Add an American city to really see a difference
Just another example of urban sprawl. We should be striving to reduce the footprint of cities as much as possible. London clearly hasn’t gotten the message
Actually, it has. Thanks to greenbelt legislation, the area of London's sprawl is barely larger than it was in WW2.
They're comparing metro area to just the inner city. London is 2/3rds the size of Seoul. London packs 14 million in it's area vs 26 million for Seoul. Considering Seoul is the world's 4th largest city that's not that bad.
Even the area of Greater London has some significant areas of lower density population. Hell even some farmland
However, Seoul is much bigger than that. Even in that red area, many of them are occupied by mountains and rivers.
So what?
I like how the gap where the City of London is inside Greater London is visible.
Do Brisbane
Using red and green while red/green blindness is the most common form of colorblindness is a bold move. I can't tell any difference
Laughs at tiny 12,000 sq. km Seoul in 60,000 sq.km Municipality of Wood Buffalo, Canada.
Reon Deon
It certainly takes a lot to say "Surrey Hills" in Korean.
