Expensive, but less expensive than losing your bike on the road.
For the purposes of this comparison, 1up 2 tray heavy duty is $700 and this Saris POS is $900.
Edit: In the US, at least. Saw in another comment OP is in Canada.
I have the 1 up 2 tray and third extension. Solid unit. About 850$ us. I did not know the satis cost but assumed it would be less🤷♂️
Yup, one more reason I’m happy I got 1up racks
1 up or kuat. I love my kaut hitch rack.
And that's why we don't buy Saris.
Had a Saris Freedom 2 that thankfully I caught before it snapped off the base plate. It fractured all the way around through all the welds that attached the arm to the base plate simply from the weight of one 30lb bike.
Unless you're getting a basic trunk rack their stuff is cheap shit that is just waiting to fail.
Am I assuming correctly, that only the friction between lever and tire is keeping the bike in place? The lever itself does not snap in place anywhere?
Who is designing such crap?
You are assuming incorrectly. They do lock in place however OPs rack appears to have problems. I have the same rack and have used it nearly daily for the last 2 years without any issues. I'm actually extremely impressed with the ease of use and it's built extremely durable.
Thank you.

Thing is, I absolutely love the idea of this rack. Also Quikr stuff and OneUp, by the time us Canadians pay for duties and shipping etc. it gets extremely expensive.
Im not trying to go anywhere with this post really, other than bring attention to such a crazy crack in the warranty. The only thing that can possibly break, is not warrantied. They claim it has warranty but really that just leaves the thick piece of medal base that is obviously never going to break.
This rack was purchased brand new from a store last September and I have the receipt and there is zero damage to it. Still declined from Saris.....
I'd feel more confident in my Sea Sucker stuck on my hood than I would with that rack.
So I have this rack..I actually really like it. The lock cables came loose aka unattached, saris wouldn't warranty. I took it apart to diagnose, turns out these are really easy to disassemble and fix...in your case it's a hex bolt and a socket to take the axle of the arm off( once you remove the little plastic cover with yellow sticker. Id disassemble see if you can see if it's fixable
That was one of the many reasons I went with a Rad Gnar Rack
Rocky mounts
That’s what I got, love it.
I love mine. But fuck it’s heavy.
I have the roof rack brass knuckle one but the hitch racks are too notch too
They are. Mine will last more than my life time for sure.
Yikes. Don't trust it. Warranty if possible, if not, 1UP USA time
North Shore Racks.
And that’s why we buy one up racks. Thank you for that clear demonstration saris are garbage
