“Well, this must have been filmed painstakingly over the course of three days.”
He also hated MST3K with a fiery passion because he thought they made a mockery of the work he put in.
I would have hoped he came around to them, but I doubt it. For someone capable of being such a brutal realist when it came to film budgets and their how they capital-w Would shape everything in a film, he was also incredibly proud of his accomplishments like each one was his only child.
He's the only person I can think of with such a concrete grasp of making movies as a successful business while still having the heart of an artist.
Sad he thinks that. I loved MST3K and I have a lot of respect for Corman's work.
Not true. He loved the show.
That actually isn't true. He enjoyed the show.
Roger loved MST3K and was happy to take licensing money from anyone. It's why you can buy DVDs of the episodes with his movies. It was Bert I. Gordon who hated the show.
There was a time in L.A. where you could work on set without bumping into at least one person who worked for Roger. I directed 4.movies for Concorde. They were terrible crap, but I made entire feature films in 5 days, so everything after has been easy.
My favorite of many Roger quotes is "Never let story get in the way of making the movie."
I was at a symposium honoring Corman, and somebody asked him what he thought of MST3K. He said he enjoyed the show, and that it raised the value of his movies when it came to licensing for DVD and Blu Ray.
