Jiří Procházka on Instagram: "I will take rest, but now It’s time to elevate” - then he proceeds to training immediately
MediaIf he can clear the 3rd day, he will be ready for the final method: swinging a hammer while standing on a hoverboard balanced on a yoga ball.
On the beach
He's on a horse.
The horse is on a beachball.
JAAAAMES BAXTERRRR!
Joshua Fabia been real quiet since you dropped the 3rd layer protocol to the public. Lol.
And just like Tony, Jiri seems to think his only issue is he should train HARDER. They think they're in some anime dimension or some shit.
Jiri already has the strenght, chin and stamina to beat Poatan, potentially. He just doesn't have the skills and doesn't seem to care about any of that. "Checking kicks? What for?!?"
It's difficult as fuck to suddenly start learning all the fundamentals at a late age, when you've been coasting by on raw talent and unorthodox tactics alone for so long.
Essentially, Jiri is the smart kid who never had to study at all before attending uni, and is now completely out of his depth.
I somewhat disagree. There are certain overall stylistic tendencies you just can’t unlearn and retrain at this point of his career.
But stuff like refining footwork, posture, more responsible hand placement and shot selection etc can be implemented a lot more easily by guys like Jiri who are already super talented and well trained.
Trainers like Freddie roach and Buddy Mcgirt in boxing were famous for turning around some boxers in the mid to latter parts of their careers just by teaching them to fight behind their jab and control distance properly even with the rest of their style was mostly the same.

A bit of banter or trash talk is fine, but don't cross the line. If things do get out of hand you will be warned or even banned for a few days. Repeatedly breaking this rule will lead to a permanent ban.

I think he's in a tough position: his unorthodox style has taken him to the championship, and he can beat most guys using it.
It gives him advantages on offense that allow him to overwhelm most opponents due to his chin.
Alex has shown the limits of the style, so Jiri needs to add leg kick defense and punching defense, but if he does that in a normal way, he loses the style that made him a champ.
So his challenge is either to totally reinvent how he fights (almost never works) or find some inspired unorthodox tricks that allow him some additional defense in his current style (this requires Cruz or Strickland levels of finding new ways to fight).
He's in a tough spot for sure.
Feel like he could benefit from better evasive footwork if he's gonna keep his hands down style, and better head movement as well but footwork is more reliable. Maybe a bit like Bobby knuckles karate style blitzes?
Maybe a bit like Bobby knuckles karate style blitzes?
He's talking about dropping to MW, and I was thinking he & Rob would make a crazy-looking fight.
I totally disagree and I think this is unfair towards him. If he didn't believe he needs to make any adjustments he wouldn't be talking about his need to "evolve" or never fight again.
Jiri is not like Tony. Unlike Tony, Jiri is clearly acknowledging here that he knows has to change to become champion again.
If he didn't believe he needs to make any adjustments he wouldn't be talking about his need to "evolve" or never fight again.
That's the proof of the pudding: he just talks about it. After getting his legs destroyed by Poatan in their first match, he booked a fight against Rakic, and what did he do? Didn't check a single kick, and Rakic did even more damage to his legs than Poatan did, but couldn't capitalize on that.
And for the rematch with Poatan, what did he do? Still ignoring any leg kicks.
He TALKS about improving himself, because for him improving himself = reading books about samurais and screaming HARDER at trees.
he just talks about it.... And for the rematch with Poatan, what did he do? Still ignoring any leg kicks.
Ok so you've confirmed your bias against him. You're not being objective here. His statements about making changes came AFTER the second fight not before.
The more I think about your terrible Tony comparison the more I realize it's the laziest comparison one could possibly make. Jiri is different in nearly every way. He's already been champion and in all likelihood will be again in the near future once he fixes the holes in his defense. They are totally different fighters and there's no comparison to be had whatsoever.
Hard to say he has the chin when he's been knocked goofy by Poatan 3 times now.
His chin is LITERALLY the only reason he went so far in his career. He's tanked inhuman amounts of punishment so far, Poatan just hits too hard.
Pereira literally holds the power cube record of the whole UFC. He hits harder than heavyweights.
You said he had the chin to beat Poatan, as evidenced by the fact he's been tko'd 3 times by the guy I beg to differ on him having the "chin" to beat him.
training to get goblin face KOed
There's nothing wrong with exercise after a concussion as long as it doesn't involve head impacts, right? I mean it's kinda funny this is his idea of "rest", but it shouldn't make anything worse.
There's nothing wrong with exercise after a concussion as long as it doesn't involve head impacts, right?
I'm an expert on level of Tony, but it was my understanding that there was a short period where you weren't supposed to do anything more impactful than like a brisk walk, then you can exercise with low impact & intensity, and so forth.
I don't know much about the science of it, and sometimes that's true of the medical community, so some protocols are essentially a cautious approach based on anecdotal evidence.
Every single tree in that backyard is about to get punched in half
Jiri is tired of living in a dirt house.
Love it. Win or lose I'm a fan.
You and I both. He's so damn good for the sport
I am emotionally invested in him. Took me until afternoon the next day to get over the fight result 😅.
Seeing Alex win yet another title fight 😀😀😀😀
Seeing Jiri lose yet another title fight 😢😢😔😔
This sport is so cruel, that's why we love it.
I still haven't recovered tbh. He's my favourite fighter probably of all time. I hated what happened on Sunday
We have to evolve bratha. See you in the gym 💪
Seeing one of your favorite fighters get KO'd is one of the worst feelings ever. Usman is one of my favs and seeing Leon literally flatline him had me shook for a day. Volk was another one that absolutely sucked to witness and that happened back to back. If Max gets starched by Topuria, I might have to retire from the sport for a bit lmao
Hall of fame comment right here. I felt all of those KO's for days.
Just wait untill alex moves to heavyweight and keep your right hand up
(moves up to HW to fight champ Alex)
he did fight at HW in Rizin at his usual 215lbs but that was more out of necessity to get fights
gets savagely ko'd again
NO!!!!
I think Jiri was still dazed from the knockdown at the end of Round 1. He may have needed another minute or two to recover but Alex went in for the kill right away and put him away.
He basically got KO’d twice in a minute. Brutal.
Cowboy vs Masvidal, Bobby vs Izzy 1. I feel like there should be more buzzer beater KOs, I can’t think of a single instance where the minute between rounds was enough. It’s just sending guys out for more TBIs.
He will cut to 185 to fight Alex at heavyweight
Jiri you need a gym, with people and mats. Go shoot a takedown, go and SPAR. You've gleamed all the knowledge you can from TREES bro.
He’s going the way of the Ferguson bro
Magomed Can't Handle This 👊 Keep Runnin Fathead 🏃♂️💨 Broken Ankl-aev moji přátelé //\\ -BJP- 🇨🇿🏆🇯🇵 #TiramisuTuesday
This looks so real 💀
Sometimes the spirit of Tony just speaks through me. I am the Lisan Al-Cucuy
Gotta be the Tony AI
He is legit a bigger Tony Ferguson - got by on Chin heart and cardio and like with Tony I don’t see things getting any better
Yeah he's definitely peaked. Actually overachieved, considering he managed to snag a belt along the way and if Rakic was truly so debilitated, it's reasonable he'd get koed by a healthy version. Got lucky with Reyes too, he was in the shadow realm at one point.
Yeah I like him as a person but the woo woo shit doesn’t work in fighting. He’s legitimately horrible technically and defensively.
He should start training defense. No joke. If he wants to be the best, he needs to keep those hands up and consider tucking the chin. I get nervous af when he keeps those hands at his side.
It’s difficult because that’s fighting hands-down is such a fundamental part of his game. He definitely should tuck his chin, but he deliberately sacrifices defence in favour of unpredictable striking.
If anything, it’d be easier to train his defence through head movement and distance management.
He's a longtime muay thai fighter. The fundamentals must still be there.
Is he really? He seems more of a karate style fighter just based on his stance.
I say this with all the love of a Jiri fan. I can't even find his pre-Rizin fight videos to confirm this, but Jiri has probably never trained a single day of karate in his life. He fights with this style just because.
All I can find about his training says the striking he's learned is Muay Thai btw.
Coincidental karate
If anything, it’d be easier to train his defence through head movement
Not as he gets older. As you get older, you have to train to be slower. Because you are going to get slower. If your defense isn't ahead of your aging curve, then good luck Jiri.
Some styles age well, some don't. We all have known for years that Jiri's won't. And here we are. No surprises, other than he made it as far as his Poatan fights without getting spectacularly knocked out. There's a huge amount of obviously skill required for him to get this far, but there's also a lot of luck required for him to get this far. I love him as a fighter, but he is so incredibly frustrating to watch.
He should try his defense just for guys like Pereira with extreme power where you cannot just trade.
Also we should wait and see how his chin holds up after this
He needs to fight more like a karate point fighter. Take a page out of horiguchi, and MVP.
We should wait for a couple more fights before saying this. Keep in mind that his current style has worked on everyone not named Alex Pereira so far in the UFC.
He was literally unconscious against Reyes, almost koed and chocked out by Glover, almost incapacitated and hurt by Rakic.
If anything he's been lucky and now it's ran out.
Listen. I love Jiri. But he way-past-his-prime Glover Teixera look like Mike Tyson, and Jiri was losing that fight til the magical sub. His style is bad and requires luck. I get all the benefits of it. But with your hands down, and especially as you age and get slower, you are going to get caught with some big shots.
I do love watching Jiri, but he deserves more losses than he has. Obviously he's skilled, tough, a killer, etc. All that is valid. But he's also lucky he hasn't been cracked and KO'd more than he has been. If you have 100 Jiri's running the same career, with the same fighting style, against the same fighters...this one we've had has the best record of all 100.
He needs to change coaches. Hybrid his style with more defense
Do you really think his coaches told him to fight hands down chin up?
Well they clearly didnt change anything since his first ufc fight.
After decade+ together it's time to move
If you know czech and watch his fights, you are just listening to
"hands up, watch the front leg, keep moving, position"
on repeat
Why not. He basically doesn't have a team, just a bunch of yes men.
Hybrid his style with more defense
Lol...you mean learn? I love the idea that it's his "style" to eat punches and kicks. He's just not good.
😂🤡
Bro is 4-2 in UFC against top tier guys, while loss is with the same guy (who is currently best in MMA and many already saying one of the GOATs)
On top of that, he is 30-5 overall, but yeah boi, "he's just not good".
There are opinions and there are straight up bs statements.
Hard to train defense when your training partner is a wooden board.
How much of an impact does this weigh on him?
Almost all of it, I would say.
Little late in the game to start training defense. Jiri just isn't going to beat anyone with good fundamentals, and they won't get better than Alex's. He still doesn't really check leg kicks and he blocks punches with his face. That chin was always going to crack with that strategy.
Jiri just isn't going to beat anyone with good fundamentals,
He just beat the absolute shit out of Rakic who is very fundamentally sound. Poatan has the goods to make him stop blitzing forward looking to brawl is the problem.
Nah it's too late and any improvement in defence of going to come at the cost of offence.
I feel some gameplan and structure would help him maximise what he's got. Then again maybe he's just uncoachable.
Maybe he needs a Trevor Wittman type to just out-weeb him long enough to convince him he needs to listen to a samurai general or something.
I wish he would go the way Overeem would do with people who beat him and train with Alex. I am pretty sure Jiri has no ego that would stop him from doing that.
Hmm, it's debatable. Jiri's ego is exactly what prevents him from using some defence, sparring someone, joining a team, a gym with a name, getting a decent coach.
Jiri seems to care more about being "the wild guy", and even then if he could take critics he'd join a gym. Even Tony Ferguson, his spirit animal, at least had the good sense and humilty to be in a strong gym under a coach with a name, at least for most of his career.
Tony was never champ. Jiri was champ. Champ Shit Only.
Tony was in a much more competitive division. You can’t even compare LW champions to LHW
Doesnt matter, only one was capable of becoming champion.
It does matter, because you are comparing two different feats
No it doesn't
Ok lol
Learning how to check and deliver leg kicks like Alex would revolutionize his game
Nobody else delivers kicks like Poatan though. The reason they land so well is he has no windup and isn't turning his hip over(which means he isn't ripe to get countered by a punch). Nobody else in the sport really throws them like that.
Gaethje might have the second best calf kick? But still not like Poatan
He said he doesn’t cut and could be a big middleweight and would favor him vs a lot of those guys. Give me Jiri vs Strickland all day
Jiri's forehead block is too OP for Sean's jab.
But his chin needs to be great for him to be able to win in general. People keep saying he would clean out middleweight but his chin would be so much worse that he'd have to change his fight style completely
I love him and I know people keep asking Jiri to work on the defense but I just don't know if that's possible for this particular guy with his, unique, mindset and fighting style to be able do that without completely neutering himself. Like how do you keep doing all that wild Jiri shit and also have a conventional, effective striking defense? I just don't know if he can make those types of adjustments this deep into the game.
Distance and head movement can be improved
But i would assume he could improve defense, but not with his current coaching staff. He needs a change
He's obviously way better than Johnny Walker, and I'd hope to fucking god he'd go to a better gym than SBG if he did decide to "up his defence", but I could see it going somewhat similarly. As you say it'd just take away what makes him so dangerous and make him...I dunno, hopefully not Johnny Walker hah.
Bro realized he didnt need to level up, he just needed to move down in weight 🗿
I'd say keep your chin up but he already fights like that
Punching a plank will certainly help with the gaping holes in jiris defence
I’ll show you a gaping hole
He’s going to board them up
Bro doesn’t know there’s different levels of training….
Jiris style is all wild attacks with hands down and no defence. If he wants to "elevate" all he needs to to do start with learning some basic defence.
How his coaches have not already noticed and/or enforced that in his game is just... amazing. Yes he has won a lot, but ignoring those kinds of glaring holes does him no favours.
Last two fights he’s been keeping his hands higher than earlier fights. Idk if he was trying to find a compromise but he’s heading in the direction of more orthodox technique.
I dunno who is downvoting you, but yeah, Jiri is lengthy, explosive and tough as shit, but if he doesn't stop sticking his chin up and never checking leg kicks, he's gonna get messed up.
Also, I feel like similar to Ferguson he's one of those dudes who does a lot of vague, eccentric training that doesn't really actually carry over to performance that much.
Like doing 8,000 burpees in quicksand while David Goggins yells insults at you or committing seppuku with your genuine imitation katana after reading the 5 Rings might result in altered mental states but it's probably not gonna actually help you win cage fights bro
Like doing 8,000 burpees in quicksand while David Goggins yells insults at you
I had a friend suggest I read David Goggins' book so many times that I picked it up. While very motivating, my takeaway is that he is an insane person and I would not want to be married to that man.
What type of man would you rather marry?
Note, I haven't read this book ("Can't Hurt Me", I haven't read his others) in years so my recollection will be imperfect but I can explain as best as I can -
While I know his family was not the focus of the book, I couldn't help but think of how his wives may have felt when he had that intense single-minded focus towards his various goals in the Navy and in ultrarunning/achieving a world record. When talking about them (which wasn't often), it felt like it was more along the lines of how they were freaking out at the decisions that he was making and/or the harsh effects of the fitness feats he was completing (like some story about how he was a complete wreck after an ultra marathon).
Of course, we have a limited view based on what he chose to include in his book, but that's the kind of thing I took away. I can't imagine wanting to be in a relationship with someone who dedicates such an enormous portion of his life to push his body and mind to the limit, even if the results are impressive. It also left me wondering (not assuming) if he wanted to instill that HEAVY level of personal discipline and achievement in his own kids, when it's intense even for an adult. If he did have more to say about how his priorities shifted around being there for his family and finding balance, I think I would have come away more satisfied.
I completely agree bro I think that it's not a surprise that his personal life is a bit of a mess.
I was just making a bad joke about you marry men. Sorry
lmao, i was bored in a training and had time, it's all good. if the joke was that i'm a straight dude, that went over my head (i'm not, for the record)
No clue why u got downvoted you must have pissed off the weebs who think screaming in the woods is valid training
There's a lot of cult members who have elevated Goggins to the level of prophet. I think those are more your downvoters not the weebos.
I legit thought it was leading to “and then he started levitating immediately”
best loser in the game. inspiring af for me
When he takes shots and gets wobbled, his brain looks so scrambled. He's only 31. He should take a long time to rest his brain. Then, he should get into a proper training camp and try to learn something new. Trees don't throw kicks, and you can't take them down.
One of those fights where I didn’t want to see either guy lose, but goddamn it’s hard not to love Jiri
This is why I'm a fan of this sport. Fighters like Jiri inspire me
Holy fuck I never realized how huge these guys reaches was
That’s the closest I’ve ever seen his hands to his head
Ehh
The only guy willing enough to fight Poatan twice (besides Adesanya) and I'm sure he'd be willing to do it again. I would feel bad for his next opponent, but I'm so much more excited to see Jiri do something incredible and lay someone out with his mystic powers...
The only guy willing enough to fight Poatan twice
Nope, Jan was willing to fight a rematch and that fight was extremely close.
It was a clear 2-1 still despite rounds being close .
I think anyone would be willing to fight him a 2nd time if it was for the belt man
Bro Rakic and Volkan are elite. Getting smashed by Pereira doesn't mean you're bad.
glover too
Jiris a champ but he relies too much on his recovery and gets rocked in all his fights. He finally ran into someone that hits so hard no amount of recovery will help. At some point that chin will crack and it’ll be from someone with half the power of Alex.
He is a 2 organisation world champion wtf are you talking about lmao these people
He just won't ever get far bro, you don't understand.
Sure bud
Sorry for the lazy reply, i guess we just have to wait and see how the career pans out u right
"SPIRIT of Void"
⚡️⛰⚡️
I like Jiri, but he needs to ditch (or severely rein in) his cartoonish mystical samurai schtick and embrace some form of combat pragmatism. Not sure what that entails/looks like, but his wackiness has found its ceiling.
Saw some other video on YouTube where he just breathes forcefully while slowly punching a 2×4 and grunting before walking up to the camera and screaming "ELEVATE" into it. Otherwise an uncomfortably quiet video.
Tl;DR: Jiri has sadly very very quickly started giving me SERIOUS Diego Sanchez vibes.
Jiri is a fighter I love watching, he’s a genuinely weird guy who is incredibly fun to watch fight and has a really interesting out of the cage persona. He seems likable too.
That being said he needs to take some time off, rest his brain, and then find a proper MMA gym. His unorthodox and chaotic striking style won him a belt and I think he’s the second best fighter in this division but he does need to learn some new tricks and mix it up a bit. He needs to develop some defense and a better grappling game.
That’s how Jiris mind rests..
Just go to a boxing gym and sign up for a beginner class, dude.
I dont want him next to me on my cardio boxing class
His boxing fundamentals are atrocious. Minus the Rakic fight he’s been stunned in every fight he’s had in the ufc.
Rakic stunned him. And almost incapacitated his legs. If it's true he was severely ill during the fight, he would have knocked him out if healthy.
Rest from fighting, not training guys, a warrior. What's he going to do go watch Netflix???.
Soon or late he will end up like Tony Ferguson. Sad to see people do not learn from the mistakes.
A 3 month stint at Xtreme Couture would do this guy wonders, he needs more high level sparring experience. Him and Ankalaev sparring together would be great for both of them.
Jiri is going to end up like Tony, his style much like Tony's isn't fundamentally sound and relies on his chin/youth too much.
Can't wait for him to frolock around the forest and lock himself in a room without food instead of learning to check leg kicks.
Big Tony Furguson
I think he could beat Alex if he gets another try
I’m huge Jiři fan but I hope he never gets to fight Alex again. He had the best chance in the first fight but still terrible matchup for him, the worst one possible actually. I hope he goes down to MW or waits until Alex retires before trying to go for another title shot at LHW.
Says he needs to evolve yet he’s still punching posts in the forest. I don’t feel bad for him anymore
Man I hate this cringe mf. I wish 🗿 had sent him to the shadow realm to never return.
Concussion protocol as recommended by Dr. Tony I see.
2nd day will be kicking steel poles with shins, and 3rd day headbutting trees.
