Russia gets a taste of their own medicine as their vaccine disinformation campaigns overseas create vaccine hesitation domestically, and bring record numbers of cases and deaths
I hope it's a one way trip.
It would be. Right to Putins asshole. He'd never wanna leave.
President Putin's Pumper
Putin wouldn't want anything to do with him now, he was a useful idiot while in office, not so much now when he's just another idiot...
Yeah but Reichskommander Cheese-It doesn't know either part of that sentence.
And there's still the matter of the.... "mattress violation."
Who would’ve thought the government who convinced their populace AIDS doesn’t exist and don’t trust doctors would be struggling with a pandemic?
Oh yeah, everyone.
Oof. That had some sting
So soon man
Savage.
Putin did Nazi this coming.
(Sorry, this joke is quite a Reich.)
Nien nein nein the joke is quite Reichful
So what you're saying is...
Covid = Mongols?
Cue the... Mongoltage?
They're the exceptionTM
BA BA BA BAAAAA BABA BAAAAA
Damn. That's cold.
Oh Lordy
Russian trollskis sowed lies about vaccine that have sprouted up among all the fascists and friends globally. Too bad Russia is as fertile ground for the same burgeoning of дезинформаций as its society is at least as dysfunctional as any abroad the trollskis are seeking to undermine. Russia already has a birth rate that can’t keep up with their death rate and 2020 saw nearly a million excess deaths, that is above their already high normal rate. Russia is a problem that is fast solving itself!
Russia is a problem that is fast solving itself!
That's the impression I get from dashcam clips
Meteorites really hate Russia.
Big target too.
The first one only hated Russian reindeer
And trees. Really hated those Russian pines
There's a girl I met at an academic college club thing years ago, really nice if a little loud and Jesus crazy. I added her on Facebook, as you did back then, and she was basically the same, bubbly and kind, god comes first, I'm not a Facebooker so I don't keep tabs on her, but she was pretty well liked.
Years down the line I check back in on Facebook. The sweet girl had been replaced by a terrified, delusional, all caps screaming trump worshipper who kinned Napoleon and Princess Diana. God baby Jesus please save our country from the satanic pedophilic democrats dear lord in Jesus name we pray. That kind of thing. I didn't even recognize her at first and thought i added some shitty, long forgotten boss by mistake. So I go back through her timeline, liking for answers and boy. Scrolling backwards let's you pretend you're watching someone at rock bottom get better, get out of their rut, get the support they need, right up until you see The Turning Event that can't be confused with anything else - such as using our academic club Facebook page to praise Trump in the most abrasive and nasty way possible. In the 3-4 years I'd gone offline, her sanity just detonated, pushing out all her friends save her one devoted post-liker. no one else put up with her confusing obsession with the club president who she either married, gave a child to, and divorced or had a vivid hallucination of doing so. It's likely the latter.
Anyway tl;dr your comment is like a political mirror universe of her mid-transition posts, before she went full caps and princess di but waaaay after she was a well-meaning sweetheart. I'm being honest here. I don't think you can get irony poisoned on Reddit the way you can on Twitter but it's definitely giving our brains something bad. I think I need a break from this sub and your post is what made me see that. Don't ever want that to be me.
I had two friends like that. Both were kind, normal, fun, and seemingly sane women when I met them around 11 or 12 years ago. One seemed to gradually slip into insanity: she prided herself for being an "intellectual," but in her search for challenging herself with alternative viewpoints, she ended up going down the rabbit hole of right-wing conspiratorial thought. Covid vaccine conspiracy finally pushed her over the edge into madness. For the other, it was more sudden lapse, first becoming a Catholic fundamentalist and soon thereafter lapsing into paranoia, thinking she was being spied on by Chinese communists. This seemed to be triggered by getting into a string of relationships with abusive men. There was only so much I could do to help, but now I consider them both lost causes.
Being paranoid types, they both "deleted" Facebook years ago.
Could you explain the relationship between Qanonces and Princess Diana, please? I've not heard this before.
I'm not who you asked, but Qanon is sort of a catch-all that grabs up every existing conspiracy theory and tries to fit them together. For years and years there have been nutty conspiracy theories that Diana was killed by the royal family because. . . something something. Lots of Qanon adherents likely incorporate that idea into their master conspiracy theory, where Diana was killed by the royal family to hide their evil pedovore cabal something something.
Thanks, nothing interesting them. How disappointing.
There isn't one? I'm talking about one specific person who presumably had her own personal journey down a rabbit hole built for her. I don't know why she thinks she's related to Napoleon or why she thinks she's princess Diana, but afaict it's just her conspiracy, no one else's.
she did not talk like this when we first met.
That looks a hell of a lot more like schizophrenia than conspiracy theorizing. God, that's tragic.
Holy shit. I hope she gets some medication/treatment before she endangers anyone.
Wowsers. That's definitely mental illness. Like shrine someone else mentioned, this person needs diagnosis and meds ASAP.
kinned Napoleon and Princess Diana.
sorry what does this mean?
She seemed to believe she was direct descendent of Napoleon and the embodiment/reincarnation of princess Diana. I can't explain more because she isn't exactly coherent.
Kinning is (1) when you really relate to a person or character to significant degree like, holy shit this guy is exactly how I think and feel. I showed my friend The Office last year and his reaction to Michael was basically "Kin. Kin. You're telling me other people don't think like this? His thoughts, his actions, his motivations... I thought this show would be dumb but I've never seen such a relatable character in my life" or (2) you literally believe you are a person/character, usually a reincarnation or something. I don't know how this works exactly and for a long time I thought it was joke or an exaggeration of the first definition. Now I know a couple others like this and tbh my biased interpretation is "literal kinning is a coping mechanism for people who've been severely damaged by life in ways that may never get fixed."
My Facebook friend was the first time I saw literal kinning in the wild, so it was jarring to say the least
ok thanks, I think I get what you mean - I'd never seen that word used as a kind of "verb" before, I suppose usage like this is fairly recent?
ok there's many subcultures I've never encountered :-P
Very interesting- thanks for the post.
I think Putin is a wise and strong leader. I'm not a bot and no one has threatened my family. I would like to visit the cathedral in Salisbury.
With its 123m spire
I have brought a small gift consisting of a small ampule containing a woman’s fragrance.
What a peculiar comment.
Brit here, its hilarious !
I got a chuckle too. I was trying to play into the joke.
If only someone could have predicted that encouraging a global pandemic would be a bad thing!
Russian media is full of information about covid urging russians to wear masks and get vaccinated. While russian media in english, IE what foreigners read, is full of opposite.
Good example is for examlle russia today, just today, no pun intended someone posted to r/slovakia how the english version talks about not hetting oppressed by masks as opposed to the russian version talking about how people should be responsible, wear masks and get vaccinated.
Thanks for the insider perspective. I would like to see Russia invest in self improvement more than they currently spend making other countries worse.
Making other countries worse is and allways has been the preffered method of russian self improvement.
They once had a thick buffer between their heartland and foreign powers in the shape of the empire and then the eastern block, but now those countries are not so friendly after decades of soviet oppression, so the next best thing after directly controlling is to destabilise.
Also, Im not really an insider, Im not russian nor do I speak the language jore than a few basic phrases.
I would like to see Russia invest in self improvement more than they currently spend making other countries worse.
If we here in America did that, college and healthcare could be low/no cost and roads and bridges would be drivable and safe. Maybe even some decent mass transit and railways. The trillions of dollars spent 'improving' Iraq & Afghanistan could have made seismic changes to our domestic quality of life.
I'm just stunned that they're taking strong action to try and stop the spread of Covid when they have a bit over half the daily Covid deaths the United States is having right now. And the US has slowed down quite a bit. It's almost as if the USA response to Covid has been, even with Biden, really fucking awful. But don't worry guys we probably won't hit 1 million dead... before the new year. It will be after Jan 1st.
What can the U.S. government do in response to Covid though that hasn’t already been done ? The minute Trump turned masks and lockdown into a political issue, he doomed any hope we had at getting Covid under control.
We have more than enough vaccines but that’s not going to help when half our country won’t take them. Every time Biden tries to enforce mandates or lockdowns, it just emboldens the other side to be even more defiant.
In a place like Russia, they can just straight up say they are locking shit down and that’s that, but in the U.S. people don’t care because they have ignorant representatives that will fight for the rights of the ignorant. For all the freedoms we have in the U.S., it also means people are free to be fucking morons, even if affects everyone around them.
All we can do at this point is wait it out. Either Covid mutates to become less dangerous, a therapeutic pill will come out to treat Covid fast, the antivax dumb asses will eliminate themselves, or a combination of all these things, but there isn’t much more the government can do to improve on our situation if half the country won’t cooperate.
I'm with you for like 90% of this except for a few points.
It isn't half of the country it is considerably less than half. The subsection of the population that have the highest percentages of never-vaxxers are white male republicans. No surprise there.
The vaccine protocol (it isn't a mandate) and similar protocols in the medical, transportation, and other professional fields have actually improved vaccination rates. In any given field with a vaccine protocol no more than 1% of the workforce ends up getting fired or quits because of not getting vaccinated. Embolden the idiots all you like, we're getting over 90% compliance with vaccine protocols where they are being applied.
But yeah, we're getting fucked over by the free-dumbs of the right wing lunatics we're unfortunately sharing a country with.
What can the U.S. government do in response to Covid though that hasn’t already been done?
Realistically? Wait for the stupid to kill itself off. I know that's not a great answer and doesn't do anything to address the short term but as I'm sure you've seen, even if Trump himself mentions getting vaccinated, those dumb motherfuckers boo him as if he said their local football team was garbage. Frankenstein has lost control of his monster and there's not much the rest of us can do about it sadly.
A lot of sci fi stories for many years predicted this all.
The answer is it never goes away. People wear masks hundreds of years into the future.
Russia and it's government are as responsible for spread and mitigation of the Pandemic as their Manchurian Candidate genius that they help elect.
Yes, some of them are in english
Updated Story link. https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-covid-deaths-record-lockdown/31525725.html
Buddy is a Russian immigrant, the people there are scared to take the Sputnik vaccine because of the crazy side effects of how shitty it is… nobody trusts their government there so they just don’t take it. Rather take their chances with the virus. It’s really sad.
Sounds like where USA is headed
No, there’s enough of us around the world that believe & support Science. We’re experiencing a live Darwin event.
Red graves make blue waves. Wish we could get votes a better way, but I guess this works too.
Works for me!
Except, their vaccine might actually have fucked up side effects. I wouldn't trust it.
I think that’s what I said.
Americans are scared of side effects too, that doesn't mean they're right. In Russia's case they might actually be right
That’s what I said, the vaccine “has shitty side effects”, “nobody trusts the government”
You could literally apply that exact statement to what many Americans believe. They also believe the vaccine has shitty side effects and do not trust the government.
Smooth brain
You fail to grasp/communicate that both sides have the same fears, except in Russia, these fears are legit.
Yeah no, the majority of Russians won’t get the Sputnik because it’s done poorly and Russian government created a horrible vaccine that doesn’t work effectively.
In the US, single vaccination rates were 70%+ in Aug. so huge difference smooth brains just can’t understand.
Your comprehension skills are lacking, perhaps English is not your first language. I'm going to stop trying. No hard feelings. Peace.
70 years of the Soviet Union primed that culture to believe in conspiracies, because they actually often existed.
Strictly speaking, they're not getting a taste of their own medicine, since they're refusing vaccination. Just thought I'd clarify...
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Poetic
Go to the Russia subreddit and they act like their shit doesn’t stink and the west is entirely evil and corrupt.
Unlike many other countries, Russian politicians don’t need voters to win elections so saving lives isn’t a priority
But they don't care. That's the point.
Getting ready for all the "Sputnik vaccine is very safe" posts from those troll farms.
Good
Please reply to this comment explaining why the post fits the sub. Please make sure to have an amazing day!
Russia has been using vaccine disinformation campaigns overseas to promote vaccine hesitancy and higher cases and deaths in other countries. But now they are suffering from the same problem as their disinformation campaigns cause more hesitancy in their own country, while case numbers and death rates reach record highs.
https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-covid-deaths-record-lockdown/31525725.html
Given the sketchiness of the Sputnik vaccine, I'd be weighing my chances too. No more than 50% effective, and it really was rushed. Some countries like Thailand are re-vaccinating all of their people who initially received it.
Now if the reason for it were to get it! Make for a much better world
It's because no one in Russia trusts the Russian government. Even when this is a rare instance that they should. That's what you get when you live under a corrupt oligarchy for decades.
Plus their Sputnik vaccine is shit. I bet even Putin got a Pfizer injection.
I think DJ Khaled has some words for Russia.
Have you seen him play guitar?
Russia and its people suffer from lots of things. Success is not one of them.
Couldn't be happier that Russia and their pet Putin is getting what they deserve for interference in US elections.👍😂
Putin doesn't care about his people, so he isn't "getting what he deserves" at all. I'm not even sure he would care if anyone in his family died, let alone a random person on the street.
I'm pretty sure he's lost millions just like the rest of the leaches.
So people who had fuck all to do with it and are dying because of the shitty gvt they don't trust and hate makes you happy? Because you cannot admit that your people are braindead enough to have done almost all of the past 4 years to yourselves and how easy it is to blame foreign powers for your idiocy? Could you be any more of a cunt?
Democrats are just as propaganda poisoned as Republicans. The Russiagate conspiracy theory was embarrassing enough, watching Rachel Maddow turn from reasonable economics lady into a screeching liberal Alex Jones. Now we see how disgusting these people truly are, wishing covid and death on a populace that has very little to do with its leadership and nothing at all to do with interference in US elections. They really just don't want to admit that Americans are extremely good at screwing themselves over. I'm surprised they haven't called covid The Russia Virus by some kind of weird word association
тебе очень грустно
Ah yes, of course. Because I am not a total piece of shit who is too fucking dense to differentiate between the autocratic fucktard gvt and the people who actually suffer most under it and therefore delight in their deaths like the total piece of shit that I am, I must be a Russian troll, right? Did I get the gist of your extraordinarily moronic comment? So by your logic everyone in the US is a fucking trumptard racist and deserves everything that's coming their way, including you? Did I get that right?
No.
I'm a patriot who actually cares about my country and wants to see justice no matter fucking what. Bet your snowflake ass.
r/lostredditors you dense mf do realize you are not in a republican sub, right? Or did you just want to prove how patriotism rots your brain and soul? If so, congratulations, you exceeded any and every expectation.
Hey arrogant prick you don't run shit except for your mouth and don't assume anything about my political affiliation it shows how simple you are.
Coming from a patriot that's just comedy fucking gold 😂👌🏻
their vaccines are also shit that doesn’t produce any antibodies at all
Wait where was any credible source saying that Russia was spreading anti-vax stuff? I feel out of the loop
Several Russian bot farms are linked to Anti-vaxxing messaging
Can I get a link to the article?
I thought The Ukraine wasn't part of Russia. What do their schools closing have anything to do with Russian misinformation?
They could be closed for renovation for all I know.
It's 'Ukraine' and not 'the Ukraine'
[Merriam-Webster] [BBC Styleguide] [Reuters Styleguide]
Beep boop I’m a bot
Wondering what Russian propaganda campaigns have to do with Ukrainian covid cases?
Well the connection is quite obvious but the headline is completely non-sensical. Makes it seem like the spike in Russia caused Ukraine to close schools.
Rudy Giuliani
You realize you named two continents, right?
Probably did it on purpose to thin the herd of the dumbest people.
Do the Russians understand the Concept of "Karma"?
"IGNORANCE IS POWER!"
Maybe if Trump visited things might get better. 😂
