I finally pulled the trigger. Weekend road trip to break it in!
Thank you.
Awesome ! May the light be with you !
Practice and patience start off at F8 to give yourself more DOF and slowly go to bigger apertures as you get more comfortable. Don’t start at f1.4. Great looking setup. Congrats!
Good advice! And IF you wanna do 1.4 at close distances: focus in the ballpark and instead of ‘microfocusing’ rock your body forward and backwards until the rangefinder aligns.
I would say start at 1.4 and if it’s problematic then learn with lower apertures and come back. IMO it depends on the user how comfortable they are with the rangefinder for some people it comes natural for others it takes time….. most importantly just shoot the helm out of it 😉
Thanks for the advice! As much as I want that sweet bokeh, you’re right, I’ll probably stay between f/4-8 to begin.
f4 is more then enough. I started my journey last year with the M10 and a voigtlander 35mm f1.4 at f1.4
How do you find focusing now? And do you typically shoot wide open?
Focusing is really easy and I normally shoot at f1.4 with my M11-P and 35mm summilux (only if it’s to bright outside and my iso is at 64 and shutterspeed at 1/4000).
I had this exact combo, you’re going to love it
Why’d u get rid of it
I regret it now but I also had a Q2M, X100V, A7RV at the time and my M11 wasn’t seeing enough use. I have a younger child so I found myself reaching for cameras with AF. If I had a “forever” camera this would be it, but for the time being it was tough to have $14k parked in a camera that wasn’t getting heavy rotation. I still think about just selling off all my Sony gear and going minimal, keep looking at used M11’s on FredMiranda and getting tempted. I also tried convincing myself an M240 would suffice but that hasn’t happened either.
I had X100V and really loved it. It made me fall back in love with photography. Two years later, I bought A7IV and sold X100V last year after not using it much. Now I’m debating between Q3, M11 and A7RV. I really love the fast AF for shooting the streets and don’t think I really need to slow down. I’m leaning towards A7RV for additional resolution, which would be great to pair up with 35mm f2.8 for a fast, compact street/travel setup. Q3 and M11 are really appealing to me, but I’m afraid I’d be disappointed after coming from Sony’s AF. Any thoughts after owning all these cameras? Thank you.
Both proud and jealous
Haha thanks!
Awesome, congrats! Next lens thoughts ??
Next lens = wife killing me. I’m going to stick with the 35 for at least a year or two to really master rangefinder focusing. I’ll be honest, day one, 100 shots in, it was a bit frustrating (to be expected). I am eager to get to the point where focusing isn’t as much of an obstruction to the process.
You don’t need another lens, the 35 when you master it is just the best of the best…in my opinion of course 😊
Once you learn to Zone Focus, you'll actually prefer the it over Auto Focus.
The 35 Lux is such a good lens. Congrats!!
Focusing gets a lot easier, get the reps in and you’ll almost prefer it over AF
She does not need to know … haha. The 50Lux looks just the same :).
HINT: store the gear at the workplace
No auto focus?
All Leica lenses are manual focus.
That’s right.
Except my Q2 Sumi
Correct. To be clear I means all M mount. And they don’t transmit any data either, other than the lens.
I read somewhere that they're transmitting approximations on aperture based on metering, shutter and ISO. Is that not the case?
That’s right. It guesses.
That’s a great combo. My 262 and my Summicron are envious
I mean, why pay mortgages when you can buy this combo 😂 I am so jealous! Wish you amazing time with your new toy ♥️
Thanks!
Congratulations, she’s a beauty
She sure is.
Congratulations!!!
OMG you did it ;) !! I dream about it for so long …
I keep telling myself: Beware the green-eyed monster, which doth mock the meat that it feeds on.
I have the same set up and trust me it’s a powerful tool for travel photography, carried while climbing cliffs and difficult terrain. Full frame sensor with a great lens in such a small body
Very nice! What a beautiful setup. Have fun!
I went to extreme. Move from M10 to M11Monochrome and it is great.
Nice! My favorite setup
Good to hear!
Don't even THINK about getting buyer's remorse!
lol. Not yet! I do fear the lock up issues but so far, nothing. I did choose Lexar 1800x UHS-II cards because it seemed like they caused the least issues. Typically go for Sandisk Extreme.
May I ask what was total damage ?😬
Around 22k CAD.
Wow. My Leica Q will have to suffice for a while ! Thanks for the reply!
😮💨
Wow, do they still make film for that thing?
That’s a nice combo. Happy shooting! 📸
What camera and lens is this?
Leica M11 + Summilux 35mm 1.4 FLE II.
Congrats!!
