‘Starkly divided’ jury offers lessons for Karen Read retrial
ArticlesI’ve felt since Jackson’s closing statement that he shouldn’t have focused in so hard on the conspiracy theory stuff. If it were me, I’d have focused on the laws of physics making it clear that this man was not hit by a car, and therefore she should’ve been found not guilty, period. It’s simple and factual. Jackson gave them way too much to argue about, and asked them to believe too many farfetched things.
I agree. Although obviously they know their job better than I do, but it felt like they pushed their own narrative too much and should've just focused on "it couldn't have happened the way the CW said it, there is too much reasonable doubt to convict." It doesn't matter if the jury believes the way the defense says it happened.
Yes and it made the jury have to choose between 2 options - KR did it or McAlbert, CPD, MSP conspiracy. Just showing that KR didn’t do it and here is why and then highlight the horrible investigation and how none of the evidence was properly stored or collected.
In the end I think that had to have been the nail in the coffin. They were comparing two scenarios instead of comparing one scenario against literally any possibility other than that scenario.
