Dismantle and Cleave both work on animate and inanimate. We've seen him Dismantle Yuji's head off when they were making the deal in the first few episodes. He even spams Dismantle against Mahoraga.
Dismantle is just the projectile slash but doesn't have opponent scaling
Cleave is melee slash (because you have to touch) and can scale to your opponent's toughness and cursed energy
