i genuinely don’t know anything about joe rogan, why do people hate him? i watched the episode with anthony and i liked it?
I personally don’t mind Joe rogan. I think he’s kind of become a victim of his own success. He’s not a journalist and has had zero journalistic training, however he gets extremely controversial guests on and never challenges them. He almost always says “huh I didn’t know that!” Whenever some one batshit builds some batshit conspiracy theory on his show. He just… isn’t very smart. I like the ones he’s done with his old friend bill burr (who has a much much better podcast) and burr regularly takes the piss and mocks Joe for his shortcomings in a way I wish all his guests did.
but i feel like podcast hosts do this lot in general (not challenging controversial opinions) because they want to give people the platform to talk and let the viewers decide their opinion on the guest that’s speaking. obviously idk if rogan actually does this but we actually learned in journalism that you shouldn’t give your own opinion, you let others speak their own, and you try to get out as much as words you can from them. then the listeners judge.
The problem is giving platforms to people that are obviously batshit crazy and/or have harmful/intolerant viewpoints. There is no upside, and the downsides can be catastrophic.
Can you give a few examples of this on Rogan's podcast? As far as I can tell it only goes as deep as people with controversial opinions on social or political issues. Which is not really extreme enough to justify not giving them a platform.
