Frustrated with tourneys

So I just finished my first tournament. I did ok, got in the top 50 but only barely. And that was with over 800mil value!

People in the top 25 were insanely high. Quintillions! Then I find out people are purposely doing bad so they get demoted to a lower league then CRUSH us newbs trying to get a few stars.

So my question is, is there ACTUAL game support where you can report people for doing so or suggest they change the way they ‘demote’ people? I just feel like new people should have a chance at stars without experienced people ruining it for them.

Sorry if it sounds like I’m whining. I’m still trying to understand the game.

It takes time. With 800mil you aren’t going to win anything. Nothing can be done about sandbaggers, just luck of the draw in tournaments.

Well I was ranked like 45 or something so I did get 3 stars. But low lev leagues shouldn’t be so hard to win a prize. It’s suppose to be for new players I assume. And I THOUGHT I had been playing long enough to give it a try. I was in the top 25 the first day.. clearly that didn’t last. :(

People drop down because it can be just as difficult for them to win in higher leagues as for you to win in copper.

Yes I get that… so because someone higher than them made it hard for them to win a prize they dropped to a lower one. WE don’t have that option!

Now they are becoming the person making it difficult for someone else to win. But we can’t go any lower. They are just being a$$#oles.

They should just have to ‘try harder’ to get a prize like everyone else. That’s all I’m saying.

They're not necessarily doing it on purpose. Ranking low just demotes you. I was demoted from plat to gold just because I didn't make the cut, despite trying my hardest.

It does mean there is a certain time investment that means you may not place high enough for a prize in your first few tourneys. That's kinda the point of the game tho

I'm generally a rank 12-18 plat player but sometimes I end up in a plat tournament with 80 people and I usually don't make the cut (last week I didn't even place!) with that number of people. Then I'm usually top 3 or so in Gold so it probably looks like I'm sandbagging but Platinum can just be pretty tough.

I don’t think someone should be at q in copper. Have only seen 1 person at q in Silver, 1.85q. At just T you can get top 5 in copper if not first. There’s no way you should be naturally demoted from silver if you’re at T. Even T in Silver we’re top 10-20 none more than that.

I’ve started a tournament, gotten busy and forgotten about it, and been demoted down to a level I probably shouldn’t be in. It happens sometimes.

Ok so yes its really unfair i get you. I've been playing for about 2 months now and only now did my turney in silver league I managed to get a second place in copper the week before with about 100 billion and that was a struggle took a long time and a good amount of power ups to get there. I know it's frustrating but there's alot of different factors jeres what I've gathered so far.

1 join turneys late. Like just because a turney is open it doesn't mean u have to join it. Wait a little around like until around 6-4 hours b4 i closes then you get in a turney with alot more casual players and they usually don't do as good as if u were joining early with all the sweats.

2 game is highly pay to win if u wanna be competitive in turnys. Like I've already invested way to much into this game and I still feel like I'm lacking behind. I got 4 of the ekstra buyable ships and they really make a Hugh difference.

It's a marathon not a sprint. It really takes a lot of time and progress is slow. I'm 100 sure that you will place in top 25 in the next 2-3 weeks.

4 joining a turney is never a waste. You can always just join play like normal and then just get the bonus of some stars so always join turneys even though u are not focused on doing good in them.

Tournaments and challenges are the only decent way to build up resource stars which will improve your economy. From there it becomes easier to run thru these challenges. The problem is that you are also seeing people drop down into easier leagues to game out the tournament challenges.

Other items are the tournament points which is only obtained there for the space station. Unless you feel like dropping $60 bucks for 600 tournament points.

Yeah clearly I need to play for like a year before thinking I have a chance in a tournament. I almost didn’t put the game down for 3 days. Not interested in doing that every time.

Skipping the tournament isn't a great idea, play it and try to not get promoted. I find myself surviving in Gold while getting my ass raped in Platinum leagues.

I’m just saying I can do challenges and compete with no one and get 3 stars or maybe more and not work NEAR as hard. Playing nearly non stop for 3 days for MAYBE 3 is not feasible for me at this time.

If I do a few more challenges and get my beacon upgrades better I’ll have better luck in my next tournament with out playing like a kid on crack.

You don't need to be staring at your phone for 3 days... just check it every 2 hours, make some quick upgrades, and you'll place. Just accept you're never going to get 1st place and it's not that big of a deal.

Just time your challenges where the tourney coincides with your challenge down time. You still sell your galaxy and get your credits. Jfc stop whining.

There’s no COST. Always do the challenges. Always do the tourneys, even if you’re playing them casual with low success - so what. You don’t need to try hard, just do them and get a few resource stars.

I’ll get there sooner or later but not quite yet.

Yeah quintillions is a bit silly, right now there are people in quintillions who are above the rank 22 demotion point in my platinum tournament (only just, but they are surviving). With that I would imagine they could do quite well in Gold, never mind Silver. Sandbagging all the way to copper is a bit silly as the rewards there are nowhere near as good as Gold.

You'll find the momentum builds, and it doesn't take that long. I was in platinum tournaments within a few months by memory. Just be consistent, keep chipping away at it as much as your time and energy allows so you enjoy it still. Some well placed stars along with natural progression will go a long way. But it does take some time.

Well I am not sure how I could consider someone getting into the quintillions in just a day new to the game. And I will keep playing the best I can. But for the copper league quintillions is a bit high imo.

800 mil is not bad for copper tournament. Do a few tournaments, and you will see that the outcome can vary in a wide range. Those players blocking the first place do so, because they can't get to first place in silver or gold league. It's still silly, since doing a high place silver two times is better than getting first in copper, and then dropping out of silver with a low rank.

I also have only done one challenge. As I said I’m still learning. So I clearly just need to work a bit more to get better on tournaments. Just wish people couldn’t get demoted.

Like, if you’re able to get to multiple quintillion, you should be able to get there again so you aren’t gonna get put in a kiddie pool when you have an Olympic medal around your neck.

At the beginning - best option to get stars are challenges. You get easily to 100 mils - that’s 3 stars (means 6 weekly). Do toutnaments as a bonus option only (and maybe some extra stars). In no time you’ll get to be these guys :) As many have said - it’s a marathon.

I actually experienced the opposite in the latest tournament. I managed to end 5th place in Platinum because other players didn't have ridiculous scores. Maybe they all went to Bronze?

The first few tourneys suck. I didn't find I did well until I had my crafting speed well up so I could get the auto miner up within the first 24hs. Until then I was o ly getting 3 to 5 stars in a tourney. The starting slog sucks but it doesn't last forever.

I go back and forth between Platinum and Gold. In Platinum I always finish 20-30th and gold 1-4th. I am going to bounce back and forth for awhile until I can consistently finish top 10 in Platinum. Until then, I make my bank in Gold as I bounce back and forth. It is not worth it to drop below gold.

Eventually you will get to a point where you will bounce back and forth and then you will fully promote and be stuck like the bulk of us in Gold/Platinum swing.

I would recommend you save your boosters for the first year as you build up your tourney rankings. I only use them in tournaments to speed along the early/midgame setup.

I'm now at a point where I can get to about 10b in 24 hours provided I have some extra dark matter for boosts. I just do the personal challenge for now, I can at least get 4 resource stars that way. I've never gotten 4 in a tournament. Although maybe now is finally the time to try again soon. Last I tried I got to 1b 3 resource stars

Dev is never gonna change it. This and his other game, the tower, both have tournaments like this. I guess he likes it or something. Just screws over casual players. They could be really amazing collaborative games, but i guess he doesnt want that

Sandbagging is a double edged sword. Yes, you get to be top 1-2 in lets say silver but for that you have to tank a gold tournament, meaning you arent getting too many stars for it. It depends on the averange of stars in the long term. Winning mid tier in gold twice is sometimes worse than first place silver and last place gold. Sometimes its the other way around. Also, for somebody who easily gets to quintillions in the first hour, its better to win fast in a lower league then retire than to be active for the whole weekend in platinum for the same result in stars. As most people said, this game is a marathon. You play, upgrade and get better in time. Tournaments arent the only source of stars. You can get them from challenges and rovers. I bought the Enigma ship and i've had weeks where i got more stars from rovers and challenges than from tournaments. Learn more about the game and you will see that you can get ahead even without placing first in any tournament.

You did better than I did. My first turnament was last week. There were three people. I got last. But still third. This week I was in silver and got crushed. I got 121st place. I am new, 2 weeks i think, and don't make more than a few million in two days. But now ill be back in bronze and try it again. No trouble really just experience as i build up my game .

As many have said in a round about way, the rewards for a top 10 in a lower tier are many times better than the rewards for the bottom 30 of a higher tier which is the main reason for the sandbagging.

Imho, this should not be done. Period. The Devs should retweak the rewards so that even if you finish last in silver league you are still making as much as 1st place coppe league. If that means that first place copper gets 3 stars, then so be it.

What also doesn't help is that leagues aren't all the same amount of participents. Silver has about 100 to 120 peeps and gold has 50 to 55 peeps and the worst part is that the ones that place 31 and lower in gold league get demoted. Very lame and unbalanced. No real way to maintain progression that way.

That won't stop people from being demoted but at least, it will stop them from doing it on purpose.

I've been playing off and on for a couple years and I've only recently started to be more meta about it. I am currently in that limbo area of I crush silver league and then get trounced in gold. I am thinking about purposefully trying to stay in silver until such time as either A Devs fix rewards (doubtful) or B- I can stay in gold consistently.

Yeah I’m sure I’ll get there but this ‘sandbagging’ that people are doing I consider cheating. Yes they are doing it for legitimate reasons and not saying I wouldn’t do the same thing to some extent but I have a hard time believing that someone is ‘new’ in the copper league such as myself can get into the quintillions in the first couple hours. That is too high to be placed with someone who just started the game. But oh well… I’ll keep playing and just ignore others. Keep doing challenges.

I agree. But also make it so the lowest prize on a higher rank is still better than highest on the lower rank. Or make it the same. Idk.. make it so it wouldn’t be beneficial to purposely demote themself.
