![What flowers are you associating with Hunger Games characters?](https://preview.redd.it/ss3yeixby3ad1.jpeg?auto=webp&s=06e44e612491a71254015a4836da04a63218d66c)
Since Coriolanus and white roses is a very known association, I wonder do you have other characters you are associating with specific flowers.
Gonna start with mine, as Lucy Gray is literally a sunflower coming to life 💛

Katniss is the potato plant thing
Katniss and… katniss 😅😏
Omg when in the prequel book Lucy says “it’s too early now for Katniss” I lost it. Author really patted her back on that one lol
Suzanne must have had a field day when she wrote that scene. 🤣
Peeta's mom is a eastern skunk cabbage
Effie is lavender, on the one hand its purple color represents royalty, her Capitol background. The word lavender comes from the Latin word “lavare”, which means “to wash.” Representing her character development, “washing” away the propaganda of her youth, and her makeup and wigs being “washed” away from her appearance in 13
In love with this thoughtful analysis 🪻💕
Guurrrl this is so good! As a huge Effie I adore this.
I associate Finnick with a Lotus and Johanna with a Spider Lily
Should Tigris be a Tiger Lily?
That definitely works! 🥹
Aw Finnick with lotus…
Despite everyone thinking something like tiger lily would suit her due to the obvious pun, I've always felt like Tigris would do well being connected to magnolias especially when she's going off and making a name for herself. They're white flowers like the white roses and have connections to power and aristocrats through being a symbol of wealth and influence (and although that was mostly in the antebellum southern USA, history gets lost and changed and rearranged so I'm sure by then most of the stuff we know is long forgotten especially in the Capitol where everything you learn about the world is what they want you to know) and they have a really leathery soft texture almost like fabric and a not quite floral but not really pungent smell either. And they bloom large but not really gaudy. I think a designer and relative of the Snows would appreciate or at least do well to be connected to a magnolia even if they're moreso a flower likely to be found in District 11 than the Capitol (but I'm sure science fiction logic and wordbuilding can come up with an explanation involving genetic engineering and other cool botany sciences and stuff)
Johanna and Venus flytraps.
Enobaria 😐
When I think about flowers and the hunger games I’m just reminded of the flowers Katniss put around Rue after she died😭😭😭
So Rue is white wildflowers 🥺❤️🩹
In the movie they are white, but I feel like in the book they were colorful. But maybe that's just what I pictured in my mind.
I do seem to remember more colors in the book, because I think the colors were part of how she recognized Peeta's painting and compliments his artistry even though in the book they had tried to cover it up or wash it off or something by the time she got there. In the movie, it's just there for Katniss to boil over and make her shoot an apple at the gamemakers' heads.
I would have loved to see into Peeta's mind because between that, the "she came here with me" interview, and the pregnancy announcement, he really did make some of the biggest plays of the whole story. It makes complete sense why Snow used him for the war propaganda, Peeta and Cinna for that matter really had a knack for just the right media spin.
She shoots an arrow at the apple. Not an apple at their heads lol.
And she does that in the 1st book. Not the second book where Peeta paints Rue. In that one she makes a dummy of Seneca and hangs it.
But you're right about Peeta really killing it with the press. In both books, but he really kicks it up in book 2.
That's right, because the chink in the force fields theme is in 2.
Yes they placed the force field BECAUSE Katniss shot an arrow at them. She didn't actually shoot am arrow at them, they just felt like she did.
Interesting fact: wildflowers symbolize unity, so Katniss covering Rue in them carries another layer of significance that way.
I know that usually Peeta is associated with a dandelion but for me it also fits to Annie. Looks a bit fragile and very easy to overlook but no matter what you try to do to it, somehow it survives and always comes back. You can take the entire thing out but if you leave as much as the tiniest bit of root, it’ll come back. And at first it will look weakened and is deeper in the ground but it’s persistently working its way up.
No, I’m not having issues with a dandelion invasion in my strawberry patch, not at all! /s
Or maybe a daisy? They are also pretty stubborn. Can be weakened but persist in the end.
Snow is clearly a thorny white rose 🌹 🤍🥀
Edit: Why have I never thought to analyze the symbolism of flowers more, this is a great post 💗
I am obsessed with flower symbolism - each and every piece of art I made of my fic has flowers in the background and each of my characters has a flower attached to them 🖤
Marigolds for Sejanus because they represent optimism, good fortune and are good companion plants. Pollinators love them, too.
Omg a Sejanus flower finally!!!
He’s my favorite from the latest book. 🙂
I love the idea of marigolds for him. 🥰
Gonna be thinking about Sejanus picking marigolds in the fields now 🥺🥺🥺
Peeta is a daisy. Sweet and caring. No harm.
Gale is a rose. Strong beautiful but one can hurt themselves in his passions of every kind. Like is passion to hate the Capitol.
Katniss is a nettle. Hurtful on the surface but actually caring and protecting. And if you let her cook, there will be something useful Happening.
I've always thought of Katniss as a daisy. I can't explain why.
I would associate Katniss’s mother with forget me nots. idk.. just feels right.
I think Effie is a peony.
Lucy Gray is a pink wild rose.
Johanna is Bee Balm.
Katniss is foxglove.
Unpopulsr answer for obvious reasons but I would put Peeta with a yellow daylily.
Gaul is a Powder Puff (Mammillaria Bocasana)
Katniss is an orchid
Madge as a dahlia. Apparently, it means golden emblem, like the mockingjay pin she gave Katniss.
Lucy Gray and poppy. A sympol of remebrance and sacrifice. Also can be used in cooking both sweets and drugs - poppy buns and opium. Just like Lucy herself is both sweet and dangerous. Sunflowers, as much as I love them, cannot be separated from 'put the seeds in your pockets' thing in my mind, no matter how hard I try.
I adore Lucy Gray/poppy combination - on one of the art pieces I drew of her (for my fic but still) she has poppy flowers as her background flowers ❤️❤️
If there are no Bees around, or other pollinators, self-pollination is an option. It isn’t ideal for the gene pool, but the seeds in the center of the flower can do this in order to pollinate. So having the ability to be both male and female at least ensures greater survival of the sunflower.
Well damn, I have just encountered the reddit equivalent of tumblr user pizza in the wild!
Peeta and wild chicory (also literally known as peter's whips, lol). It may have very pretty blue flowers, but it's also a very sturdy plant with roots planted more than a meter into the ground, getting all the water it can find. And it has uses in cooking, beekeeping and medicine!
Prim with prim rose snow with white rose and Katniss with Katniss
Peeta with dandelion Prim with Primrose 🤯
