Bought brand new Honda Odyssey 2024 and not a month passed it has started giving trouble.I was driving on the highway and all of sudden all warnings signs started flashing .Service center said it was just a loose wire and they fixed it but while coming back again all lights started flashing then service center said that it has problem with sensor. Not only this its trunk got jammed and I couldn't make it work so again trip to service center and this all is happening within a month of buying. I want to say it loud to Honda that we are not your test users and you should test your vehicle before delivery. People buy new and latest car to get more safety feature but this doesn't looks like happening. I was driving on the highway along with my 2 little kids and all of sudden it started giving me all warnings, what if in state of panic something bad could have happened. After spending $50000 this is what I am struggling with.Really disappointed with Honda odyssey 2024 :(
Tell Honda directly, write them an email in Japanese, give them your VIN and when you purchased the car.
They will probably give you a better solution. :)
Lemon law?
Lemon law it but blanket statement on all 2024s is strong. We bought 3 months back, have thousands of miles and the car has been amazing.
What trim level?
EX-L
$50k for EX-L. Holy shit!
I paid just under 42k for a touring 2023 last year
Yeah, ouch! I got my EX-L for about 42 otd after taxes and extras. 50 is ridiculous.
Wow $50,000 for an EX-L. You got taken.
After tax cost was $46000 and paid additional $4000 for extended warranty so paid $50000 for this so called amazing car.
You can get a refund on extended warranty
Request refund on warranty, search this group and you will find there is a dealer who will sell identical warranty for $1300 and can be used anywhere.
Ahhhh gotcha ok. Yah man sorry
Damn dude got swindled on that deal. Ppl are getting ex-ls for under 40k (before TTL). And yeah warranty?....sigh....
Sorry to hear that. We just hit a year with our ‘23 sport and 3 road trips and 10k miles later, things have been great.
My 2023 ex-l has been find, but my god is the build quality shit conpared to the models from 5 years ago
No issues with my 24 EX-L with 11k miles in terms of power, comfort and reliability, except for one important item. AC system does not blow same ice cold air in summer heat and lacks enough air flow that in TX heat, third row passengers are not comfortable. We have ceramic tinted windows and compared to suburban, toyota and other recent family cars that blow true ice cold air - this one does not.
This sucks, but it's not the norm.
Good to hear that
2021 Honda odyssey touring- about 2 years after we bought it. On the highway. Came to a dead stop. When traffic picked up again I hit the gas and car totally dead. And I was in the fast lane. Panicking not knowing what happened, I got out put out safety cones to direct traffic , my wife while moving over from passenger to driver seat unplugged the iPad that was charging and then the car turned on. Happened again about a year later. And also one time while driving about 40 mph it slammed on its breaks thinking there was something in front of the car when there wasn’t and seatbelt choked my pregnant wife and scared the shit out of her. Took it in to Honda after that and our 3yr warranty expired 2 weeks prior 😡!! They said the sudden stop was a sensor malfunction and the car dying on highway twice was bc faulty battery. Over 2k to fix but we argued and they covered 90%. Still upset w the whole situation
Do a battery test. This happened to me too. The voltage might be too low to power all the electronics.
Yeah so hate to break it to you but anybody that's bought a new Honda in past 15+ years you have been quality control.
I've been working as Honda tech for decades and the quality has been in a downward spiral for last 20ish years.
Nothing surprises me anymore.
Fun find I had a few years ago. New Oddysey with appx 5k miles customer states sluggish and feels like it's going to stall and SRS light on.
Long story short the ground wire for the fuel pump was never installed. When I went to look for it there was just an empty hole. The harness was flipped 180⁰ in wrong direction and the floor hvac duct was over top of it. The end of the harness that gets bolted to floor was contacting the floor so the car would start and drive but I guess if you hit a bump it would loose contact and in turn lose fuel pressure.
What threw me was when I was diagnosing it I was laying on the floor unknowingly pressing the harness to the floor and leading me down an incorrect path.
Thank you all for all your suggestions and experiences.I will see what’s possibly best I can do under these circumstances.
Really been an issue since like 2017ish. Golden era if you ask me was mid-2000s to early to mid 2010s
Respectfully disagree. Golden era was late 80s and 90s.
Not with those glass ATs.
You mean late 90s Accords?
The crx, civic Hatch, 90-93, 94-97 Accords... you could beat the shit out of them, do no maintenance and they'd run forever. They would burn oil later on but not excessively like 08-12 Accords, crvs and the 6 cylinders.
Every single late 90s to early 2000s Honda had a problematic AT.
Oil consumption on the V6 is easily solved by disabling VCM, not a big deal, or just get one without it like our 06 Odyssey.
Yeah but not all people are knowledgeable enough to know about vcm delete and before vcm deletes were available the rings were already stuck and damage done. All those k series all burned oil too. Those pistons we put in 4 cylinders were updated parts too. Can't slap a piston delete on them. I've done so many piston jobs on those era Hondas I've lost count. In the hey day I was doing 3-4 a week for months straight. The piston groove cleaner tool and ring compressors never made it back to the parts cabinet. It went from one tech to another to another.
Doesn't mean they can't learn. VCM doesn't cause permanent damage to rings. Disabling VCM after the fact frees them up too. Proven.
The 4 cylinders were afflicted by the low friction rings, and it wasn't just Honda using it. Even Toyota who everybody preaches about had the same issues back then.
Can you provide a source for vcm delete freeing stuck rings. I do not believe that. You have to literally pry and pick these rings out of the grooves. I can't see how that can free a stuck ring.
Yeah and the the rings they replaced in the 4 cylinders were the same ones. The pistons were updated. They had more oil relief holes. Nobody is talking about different Toyotas.
I'm not gonna argue with you. We can agree to disagree. I've been working professionally on Hondas for decades and I believe what I see with my eyes.
Go look at any of the VCM cases online or on this subreddit even. Rampant oil consumption, plug fouling, etc. Symptoms completely vanish after disabling VCM.
My 2014 Odyssey Elite was a POS. Glad it’s finally gone.
What brand is better in your opinion?
No clue. I drive 20 year old shit boxes til the wheels fall off.
The quality, fit and finish of our 2024 Elite is crap. Things like the display screen flickering let you know what you’re in for.
My 2023 Sport has been nothing but trouble after only 6000 miles.
My 2006 third gen has 250k miles without any problem. My friend has 2012 fourth gen started burning oil after 60k.
Tell your friend to disable VCM. Should fix their issues.
I have 2013 ExL bought it for 24k with 48k miles in 2016 and running good with current mileage 120K
Alabama plant that makes the odyssey and Ridgeline is known for its for quality product.
I should have stated the lack of quality of the Alabama assembly plant
I assumed it was sarcasm.
Had the same thing happen with our 2023 Ex-l. Didn't even have 1000 Km on it and the thing had engine light come on and it wouldn't produce any power when I gave it gas. It wouldn't drive faster than 20-30kmph.. ended up getting it towed to Honda. They said it was nothing and might of been 'too cold' and the car sat too long before driving... We did have a week of -30 weather and we didn't drive it much, but still. Annoying as hell when you spend that much.
Never had that issue since. But we did have a weird one. For a week every time we started the car the passenger side rear door would open. Then that just went away.
Hopefully the dealer will make it right. Glad this is an isolated circumstance and not a regular occurrence.
Dealer will not replace my car with the new one though I bought just 29 days back so replacing part doesn’t make it new.The difference between brand new and used car is that new car doesn’t give us trouble for few years at least 2 years. With all these issues it doesn’t feel like brand new car. And I am not sure how you can say that it’s not regular occurrence..it’s 2024 model so just few months passed away and may me many customers are suffering like I am..who knows :(
The 2024 has been out since September of 2023. I put a deposit on mine in July and picked it up in September. The 2025s are coming out in the next couple of months. The 2024 is a continuation of the fifth generation which has gone unchanged since 2018. Factory built cars aren’t really tested. They get assembled and off they go. The dealer does a presale inspection and that’s all. It’s a shitty situation but a dealer won’t give you a replacement car. You need to look up the Lemon law in your state. The dealer has a certain number of times they can attempt a repair for the same issue before lemon law can be invoked. It might help to consult a lemon law attorney in your state.
On the upside it's under warranty and they give you a loaner. If it keeps having issues, they may give up and swap you. Patience is the key.
No issues with our 2024 Sport. You might have just gotten a bad unit. Others that have the 2024 have nothing but positive to say when we meet up.
I’m in agreement that the 2024 odyssey has had some shitty things pass thru. I had a gash in the steering wheel at 12oclock position and noticed it as soon as I rolled off the lot. A loose rear plastic panel and a really loud ping under the car when driving for over five miles when the car gets a little heated. It’s loud. My brother has the 2018 odyssey and he also had some extreme shitty things like major leaks and puddles during rain.
It's not just the '24, all 18-24 seem to be garbage compared to pre-2018 models. Honda, like Toyota is just not what they use to be...
True for every make. Stupid government regulations have led to manufacturers squeezing out every MPG even at the cost of all reliability and quality.
Id believe that was the case if my 2016 supercharged 350hp V6 Audi didn't get significantly better MPG than my odyssey.... This thing SUCKS on gas. Literally...
Yes, but that's because a lot of it exists just for EPA tests. We are paying for these stupid MPG controls that don't apply in practical situations regardless.
Look at VCM for example. People always make false claims about how it saves a lot of gas, but outside of the controlled EPA test environments, it really only saves 1-2mpg at best and in some cases causes worse MPG.
Legendary Honda quality has now gone down the drain. So many issues for a vehicle that has been in production since 2018. Should have bought a Toyota.
Toyota isn't great now either. The best route is to buy a 10-15 year old Honda from the golden era.
I have a 2024 Sport and so far, so good. I drove a Toyota Sienna for 15 years and son is still driving it. I wanted another one. Unfortunately, all Siennas are exclusively hybrid since 2021. I want no part of hybrids or electric vehicles
Why is that?
Which part?
Wanting no part of a hybrid
Researched it and apart from being more expensive to purchase, insurance is higher, they don’t work as well in cold temperatures, are much pricier to repair or replace if damaged, (batteries cost several thousand dollars to replace) and I’ve read horror stories about people left with dead batteries when they don’t drive them almost every day. Driving is what charges the battery. I don’t drive much anymore - got this new van on May 1st and hit 1000 miles in it yesterday, almost 2 months later.
I’ve been considering a hybrid for awhile. I appreciate the input.
You’re welcome! Do some research though. Things that are problems for me might not be for you
I agreed until you said Toyota... Even the Toyota has so many issues these days... For the quality and price of vehicles now I'm sticking with my German cars... My 2016 Audi has been SIGNIFICANTLY more reliable than my 2018 Honda
I keep my cars for the long term, usually up to around 190,000 miles or so. The upkeep on an Audi would put me in the poorhouse unfortunately
Document the issues and invoke lemon law
