what brand is it? i might need to pick up one of these
Insert goofy Chinesium name here. Fvoai?
Used one of these on my screened in porch and it worked wonders.
Oh my goodness I need this! Why do the children need to sit around with all the doors wide open to think!?!?!
Sir! Downvoted unless you divulge the brand of this amazing device.
I can't read the font. Too chinesey. Floval maybe?
Fvoal? Fvoai?
Yup, I tried to find i, it is FVOAI Fruit Fly Trap.
Lol fair enough!
Haha last week I asked my ten year old and her friend what they were doing out there and the friend said “talking about life.”
Is this the thing you're talking about?
It says it's not intended for house flies.. but does it work for house flies?
No it's not a vertical fan, it's a horizontal hubless ring. That's more like fruit flies I think.
The reason I'm asking is because I, too, battle with children who seem not to be able to close the doors behind them in a reasonable amount of time.. I could use the backup.
I tried to find it, it is Fvoai Fruit Fly Trap.
Whenever we have flies I assume something has died in our crawlspace and that's usually the case, big flies are from maggots which are from eggs that flies lay on dead things.
Also do you have screens on your windows, are there flies outside in your yard/flies buzzing around when you walk to your door, are these actual flies or are they gnats?
I'm in San Diego and we get flies randomly on hot stretches in the summer. I found they were coming in via the range exhause hood from the outside because the metal grate wasn't small so they easily just flew in. Our exhaust for it is sort of close to the trash cans on the side of the home.
What I found really helped was I'd put fly traps I got on amazon on the side of the house and since then haven't had many fly issues since the traps and using a smaller holed grate on the outside of the house
This is totally gross but it happened. Had a ton of flies out of nowhere. My landlady saw a couple crawl out from under the stove. She sprayed some Raid under there and a SWARM of flies came out! Turned out there was a dead mouse under there...larvae grows in dead creatures and turns into flies. It was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. She had somebody come get rid of it. No more flies. Just something to consider. Ugh.
Saucer of balsamic vinegar mixed with water and washing-up liquid so it has a layer of foam (v important) on the surface will slaughter gnats if situated correctly
I had the same thing in my old house (sold it). They were coming in through the windows, walls, and vent fans. Even saw one trying to come in above a kitchen cabinet. It was half stuck between the soffit and the cabinet trim. Nothing worked at getting rid of them but the blue zap light was somewhat satisfying. Sorry you’re going through the same thing.
I recommend those fly trap bags that you can find at home depot, it usually comes with some kinda chemical or hormone that attracts them to it and then they crawl into the mess of a bag and they accumulate by the dozens/hundreds. It was effective when I worked at a restaurant and we needed to reduce how many flies were hanging around our backdoor whenever someone would go on their smoke break or we'd run garbage/cardboard out.
You can maybe put it on a post or something in the yard a little ways away from your entrance doors so you don't necessarily attract or draw flies inadvertently TO your house but away from your house. Then check up on it every once and awhile, when its full just throw it in the trash and put up a new one(?)
We had a terrible fly problem in the laundry side of our basement last year. We figured out they were coming in from our dryer vent, which was stuck in the open position with the screen not completely covering the vent. Once that was fixed we hung up a bunch of fly strips and were able to get of them. It was horrible for a couple of weeks.
Probably not the cause but keep a small garbage bag in the freezer for organic waste so that your regular trash has no food for them. Store all your fruits and veggies in fridge too.Â
Others have covered the dead animals but take a look on your roof for vents with missing bug screens, like the bathroom vent and stove vent. I wonder if your stove vent is greasy and needs to be cleaned/replaced. Or just in general pull the stove out and see you need to clean up any food debris or grease around and under the stove.
We had them really bad last year and couldn’t figure out where they were coming from. It was very offensive, they would actually shag right in front of us. Have you ever heard a fly getting it??? Traumatic. We live next to a big river and figure that’s it but haven’t heard anyone else complain. I do realize why so many people here have screened in patios tho. We got a bug zapper, flying insect spray, a fly trap, a katchy and those plug in stickys. I like the plug in stickys and flying insect spray the best. We haven’t had problems with them bugging us too much this year but we spend a lot of time on keeping their numbers down. I’ve made a bit of a game of it. I spray the stragglers, when they’re sitting light em up with a torch lighter. We’re not immaculately clean or anything but theres nothing that would lure them to our home in particular. I’ve noticed they find their way in more when we have the A/C on so I think they are attracted to the comfort of a homestead. We also have finch bird feeders, I don’t know if that contributes or jot as we got them for the yellow jackets but it’s worth a try. They are a plague.
Our house gets swarmed with ladybugs every year. Farmers use them to kill aphids, and then they fly off and swarm our house. Thousands and thousands of them at a time. We had to screen in our back porch, because they'd just take over and even still, we get a few hundred inside the screens.
We have to vacuum them up with a shop vac daily.
They get in from the smallest spots. Rent yourself a thermal camera and look for heat spots along doors, windows, outlets, etc. If you have an attic, check the entrances too.
I have a bug zapper in my kitchen.
Had a similar situation a few years ago with a rental apartment. It was a newer build, 4 years old max, and we eventually figured out they were in the basement and coming under the door. The basement of the place was originally going to be finished (stairs going down were carpeted) but the owners decided not to finish it because the rent would have gotten too high or something. The door they had installed was an interior one with a little gap at the bottom. We used the basement quite a bit and while there were some dead ones down there around the window wells we never saw live ones so we just did not think to look there at first. We ended up blocking the gap with a towel the last few months we lived there and the fly situation dramatically reduced. We also started using our Shark wand vac to catch them and then took it outside away from the house and released them as it was so much easier than using a swatter and a lot fewer guts to clean up. The sound of flies buzzing or hitting their bodies against the window makes my skin crawl and makes me feel very ragey so I feel for you!
Had a fly problem one summer. Turned out it was a rotten potato in a cabinet. Didn’t think they liked potatoes.
I have a problem with gnats just appearing and then mosquitos and flies coming in when the doors are opened. I got these plug in bug traps from zevo (picked up from Walmart) and it’s working great. Especially for the gnats
I live in the countryside, next to a mountain, and this year the amount of flies has increased significantly, probably because we had more rain than usual before the summer.
If they really bother you, you can always install screens on your windows. Something that lets fresh air and light come in, but not flies. There's many options out there, from going full DIY (buying the raw nets, cutting them to size and covering your windows in the way that is most convenient) to more complex options involving nets with frames that you can cut to length and pull up and down.
I tried the DIY route and didn't have a lot of sucess (magnetic tape did not fare well when exposed to sunlight). What we are doing at now is relying on the fact that flies are really stupid animals. They fly towards the light. Not as directly as a moth, but on average their flight paths will lead them away from the dark areas into the illuminated ones.
So during the day, open a window and move my arms around a little bit, and the flies leave through the window in some minutes. In the evening I'm careful to not leave the lights on while the windows are open, because I know that then the flies outside will move in. If for some reason I have failed to do this and a bunch of flies got in, what I do is turn off all the lights, close the door of that room, open the windows, and turn on the lights outside (we have some lights in our backyard and terrace). The flies go away in 1 hour or so.
Have u checked the windows. The top portion of windows come down and they get in there. Do u have window ac units. If so they come in through the back and crawl up the window and slip in between the 2 windows. If u have already checked that and they are good or don't apply then browse the outside and see which area they favor. Hand a fly bag or 2 in that area or different areas outside the house. U can get them from home depot and they work wonders and are a one way ticket for them. I have 1 by my trash bin and it keeps them from trying to get in. Hundred of flies will be in the bag in 2 days. U also need to see what's attracting the flies. U will always get flies maybe 2 or 3. But if it's a bucket load something is attracting them and they are laying eggs and multiplying. Either garbage, something dead, or some kinds of berry trees/bushes attracts them. I have a berry tree that I hate but it's not mine that attracts them. So I've been slowly killing the tree secretly.
Always annoys the hell out of me how they have unlimited space outside but fly into your home the first chance they get. Spray some Temprid fx around the base of your house outside. Spray three feet out into the grass and three feet up your siding. It’s great for killing bugs and keeping them out.
Sadly this sort of thing also destroys the beneficial bees and other pollinators around your home.
Get Bug-a-salt gun. Every fly is a new hunt.
Currently listening to the droning of a table top fly catcher fan thing that glows and has a stink pack thing for attractant. It murders dozens of flies and mosquitoes every day, so my kids can keep leaving doors open while they stop to ponder the meaning of life halfway through the goddamn doorway everytime. It's a round purple thing with no blades in the middle, and Amazon saved my sanity and dignity. And my children.
