Let’s say doing the hobby from morning to late afternoon or evening. Your input is genuinely appreciated
Do y’all have hobbies you could fill up your whole day with, for weeks, for months? Which hobby is it?
I would genuinely love to read but I can’t motivate myself to😭😭😭😭😭
Try audio books when you're doing another hobby like walking or wood working. Or while driving.
This is the way (signed, a recent English lit major)
I was also an English major and still need audiobooks if I actually want to get any reading done! (I’ve been out of college for a year and a half now; I used to consume physical books like a wildfire before college, but now I can’t fathom how I did that 😭).
I found it really helpful to pull up audiobooks for some of the classic literature I had to read for class on YouTube and just follow along in a physical copy of the book so I could take notes to bring to class (I preferred highlighting and writing notes in the margins over writing them in a notebook/typing them on my computer, because it helped me keep track of my notes for when I needed to write a paper!). I also struggle with reading comprehension, so having the stories read out loud to me helped with that as well!
Audiobooks while driving are the only things that make commuting in a car feel less like a waste of time and effort. If I lived near quality, reliable public transit, I’d use that and listen while writing.
Same! I drive so much for work and my audiobooks are what get me through it. Otherwise, I loathe driving.
That's what I do! I crochet and listen to audiobooks.
I fell out of my reading habit and podcasts actually pulled me out of my slump. I started reading the books mentioned on various shows, next thing I knew, I had finished six books in three months!
I stopped for a suuuuper long time because I was too busy and my brain was too full. I actually only picked it back up heavily at the beginning of this year when my best friend wanted to do a challenge and she held me accountable for reading 10 pgs a day. For me it was all about finding the books that caught my interest! Sometimes audiobooks can be super helpful or even podcasts that cover something you’re interested in!
You have to start small and train yourself. 10 mins a day, then go from there.
This might sound silly to say but make sure you’re trying to read things you ACTUALLY want to read - not something you feel like you should read, or just because it’s new, or whatever the reason may be. Too many people get caught up on the idea of a “guilty pleasure” and let that stop them from indulging in things they enjoy. Graphic novels count. Audiobooks count. Comics count. Romance. YA. Fan fiction. Art books. It all counts.
This part! Embrace reading whatever you want. Don't read it just because it's on a best seller list or it make you sound deep to talk about it. Embrace your inner trashy airport novel reader!
I actually had to ban myself from reading at one time, because I'd always have to stay up all night to finish the stories and I was so tired I couldn't do my job properly 😆. Sounds mad now, but I was trying to 'run away' from grieving at the time so I think my brain got obsessed with reading as an avoidance tactic. I refer to 'my brain' as if it were a separate entity to me, but at the time it just wouldn't do as it was told🧐😄
I have to do this. Reading is one of my favorite things on the earth but I can't do it responsibly so I only manage 3 or 4 books a year.
Oh my God, there's another one of us😲. Yes I can't be held responsible for what happens when I get into a book even nowadays.
We three could start a book club..... or maybe not because we'd never get anything done😆
“Why did you call into work?” “Uhhhh the book club was in session”
Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry you were grieving but that’s kind of hilarious! When I first graduated uni (about a year ago), I was coming out of a bad break up, I didn’t know what to do with my time so I read like a fiend. My family claims they didn’t see me for days, so I totally feel you on that one
Yes that's exactly what it was like! I'm so glad I'm not the only one🤣
I remember I had one book that was a solid 800-1000 pages ish. I don’t remember exactly, but it was long. I somehow managed to read it in a day. I put it down and was like wow that was so good and my mom was just so concerned lol
Yes! I wish I could read so many books. Whenever I have a break from school or work I go on a huge binge.
Part of this hobby is also me adding books to read on Goodreads lol 😝
Unfortunately I pushed aside pleasure reading ages ago when college took all the time. I love being outside in the dirt.
I lost the habit and enjoyment for a long while. An English degree will do that to you. It resulted in me taking up gardening and hiking, which I still do. But I think I’ll always fall back on reading for relaxation and enjoyment. It’s my own little private world
This! I LOVE reading!!
You’re my spirit animal
I’m in a reading slump right now 😭 I usually read a book about every 1-2 days. But for the last month nothing can hold my attention. I think I’ve finished maybe 4 or 5 books
Not quite a hobby but I've become absolutely obsessed with populating my family tree, learnt tons about genealogy and old Latin church documents. It seems neverending so far!
I call it a hobby! I've also put a lot of hours into it (thousands at this point) and I LOVE IT. So fun to see where you came from and so odd to think of how many people we came from.
So is it possible my family on both sides have little jn the way of historical records, or do I just suck at this. So far I've used my 23andme results, and prior to that i dabbled with ancestry.org. (the version without DNA.)
Familysearch is a great way to start. It will automatically connect your tree once it matches their database. It's by the church of ladder day saints so take that for what it's worth. But it's how I started my research.
Ancestry is always good but costs money. Myheritage is another good one.
I started only knowing my dad's name, my mom's name and my maternal grandparents. It takes time, research, and reaching out to people and hoping they'll respond. But finding the information is such a great experience. I hope this helps a bit! Feel free to ask any other questions you may have!
I did this a few years back and suggest making a physical family tree to display when you are done. I went on Etsy and had a family tree done in calligraphy with a tree drawing. It is a beautiful piece of artwork and tells the family history. Framed, matted and special to the entire family. Gave copies to family members for the holidays as well.
i thought at first that “populating your family tree” was a creative way to say fornication
LOL same but either way it’s still a hobby😭
It was super cute for my mom until we figured out I had multiple half siblings because of my bio dad…
If time and money were no factor:
I’m a private pilot, I could spend days or weeks at a time flying around the US and Canada, exploring North America from the air.
I play adult league ice hockey once per week, but I would happily play it daily if I could.
Music production. Writing and recording music takes playing instruments to a whole new level of creativity and fun.
Woodworking. I love building projects for my house, and learning to come up with a design and then turn it into a real product is incredibly satisfying. I could spend all day in my garage building and be content the entire time.
Are you the most interesting person in the world?
My life goal is to be like this guy. To have a ton of random skills/hobbies/jobs, steadily grow a collection of knowledge & experience, be able to talk to anyone about anything, be active, be cultured & worldly, go off on adventures...
This seems really key to retirement, second or maybe on par to good health. As an elder millennial my parents, in-laws and many other “grown ups” in my life are retiring or somewhat recently retired. After the initial excitement of not working wears off it looks like a variety of hobbies is key for these reasons as well.
I love the picture of your life this paints. How cool!
You sound a lot like me (minus the aviation,I wouldn't trust my ADHD enough to led myself take flying.)
Did you ever dabble with physical synthesizers?
Peterman?
I can easily spend an entire day cross stitching, putting together a jigsaw puzzle or reading.
Jigsaw puzzle with a good audiobook is a super relaxing time
I listen to music when I stitch and puzzle. Have tried audio books and never really enjoyed them.
Cross stitch for sure
I could cross stitch and crochet every day for the rest of my life, no question.
Writing. I can spend a whole day thinking about the setting my characters will be passing through, even months, developing their triats and the changes they have.
Birding and bird photography. We've gone out for hours and hours in good spots looking for interesting species. The photography isn't necessary but it has the advantage of creating a record of what you've seen and you can create beautiful pictures. And it gives you something to do at night when you download all your shots you spend time going through them to see which ones are good.
I just started more actively watching birds and want to start learning about them/documenting which ones visit. Where is the best place to start?
Literally anywhere. Buy a nice pair of binoculars, they don't need to be really expensive. Buy a paperback bird guide, and download an app called Merlin. Go out somewhere where there are a lot of trees (not on private property) and start looking up. Lakes, ponds, rivers, or any body of water are also good places to go. Many parks have guided bird walks on weekends. Where someone with experience will guide a group to likely birding spots. So look up their websites. Facebook has a ton of birding groups. Some of them should be local to your area. Finally, there is a website called e-bird where people can report sightings. And it also identifies hot spots that you can visit. I am lucky to live in an area that has some of the best birding in the country because of the diversity of habitats. Over the years, I've met many fellow birders at popular hot spots. Hopefully, eventually you get to know the other people in your area. And they let you in on the best places to go where there is activity or rare sightings.
Look at ebird to see a map of bird hotspots. Download Merlin if you have a smartphone. Go to a hotspot, or just go outside!
Buy a pair of binoculars. I suggest 8x42. First number is magnification. Lower number is better at least to start because it's easier to get the bird in your view! The second number is how big the front lenses are you want as big as you can get/afford with the caveat that as the lenses get bigger the binoculars get bigger and heavier and less convenient.
What a heavenly past time. Nature is just the BEST!
I was a dedicated twitcher (literally every single weekend and after school) when younger, but now it's not so easy living in an inner city area. It's mostly bin chickens and Indian myna birds with the occasional rainbow lorikeet lol
So many! If I had the choice, I would be doing nothing but hobbying all day. They are drawing, writing, and everything in between!
Yes.... But if you could only pick one and your weren't allowed to switch... Which one can you do for the longest before you need to take a break and do something else?
I can definitely spend a whole day shooting pool.
I love playing pool! When I was younger, I could play for hours at a time. Now I feel like my enthusiasm has waned considerably, though. I get bored after about 2-3 hours.
I do embroidery and make stuffed animals out of felt by hand. It takes a looong time to make something, but I can still listen to an audiobook or a podcast while I do it, so win-win!
Wow. That’s amazing. I don’t have the patience to do either. Do you sell your embroideries and stuffed animals? I recently bought a stuffed bear from Etsy and I love it!
Nope! I just do it for fun. I give most of them away as gifts. I find that more satisfying.
Hiking, paddle boarding, nature walks, being in nature, could do that every day and not be bored. Idk if those are hobbies.
Def are!
Geocaching- I love doing weekend road trips
I can’t believe how few people know what Geo-Caching is, people asked what I did over the weekend and I tell them me and my son hit 25 Geo-Cahches, and they are like “what?”
If I had the time and data, I'd be out playing Pokemon Go all day.
I don't play as much as I'd like to anymore because I'm too busy but I absolutely love it!
Indoor or outdoor Gardening. Lots of planning before and I always have a laundry list of things I need/want to do. I have my first container garden this year and I’m constantly fiddling with some aspect of it.
Nice -- planning is good. I garden too but more a compulsion than a hobby.
Reading. I read a new book every 3 or 4 days.
For more clarification, is reading your only occupation or do you go to school/work/… too? Completing a whole book in 3-4 days is amazingly fast
I go through periods of time where I love reading and then I get into this slump where I don’t feel like reading.. I wish I could consistently stay in a reading mood
Dungeons and Dragons (or rather tabletop roleplaying games). Whether it's writing your own world or a bit of fluff for an item players will never find or imagining empty empty spots in calendars finally overlapping, watching or reading stuff made by content creators, listening to podcasts or actually playing and reminiscing and thinking about what you should've done and imagining where the story goes next week
I'm a 60-year-old grandma, but I've always thought dungeon& dragons sounded so fun. A wonderful outlet for creativity.
You are going to love this thread . You should search "DnD Grandma Edition" She did a few posts on it. The one I linked is the second update I think.
Thank you so much! That was awesome!!
OP, I can't second this enough.
Dungeons & Dragons all the way (or any Role Playing Game [RPG])! Ask around at your local game shop for how to get started. A bonus if the shop is running an Adventurer's League since they probably.
You may find yourself daydreaming about what your character goes through and who you want them to become. After playing for a bit, you may want to be the World - the dungeon master (DM) who creates the place where characters fight battles, find treasure and magic items, and become kings or save the universe.
Find inspiration ideas in movies, books, or the latest news article you read. The real world is an exciting place and is weirder than we all can fathom! Build your own and invite people into that sandbox you create!
I have decades of thought and planning in front of me, and I am buckled in for the ride. Come and join the millions of us who play, OP! The universe awaits.
Paint-by-numbers is quite time consuming but it doesn't feel like a chore. I could spend all day doing it for many days
Musical instrument
Pottery and gaming!!
My dad’s retired and spends almost all day, everyday working on his boat. In the winter, he takes parts home to tinker with & does a ton of research. Through this commitment, he’s actually become a well known competitive sailor & skipper in our area.
I could crochet all day and night for months (if my hands didn’t get sore). I’ve also taken weeks-long backpacking trips & separate mountain biking trips.
Mine’s kind of niche but I do it all day every day. I make images out of appliquéd fabric collage.
Lego and miniatures.
Prepping an RPG campaign online. Between maps, art, music, statblocks, etc., it can keep you busy indefinitely
I started flying FPV drones in 2020.
So, I could charge up and prep gear in the morning. Go fly and shoot video late morning. Come home and review footage and cut clips. Repair broken gear. Design new parts. 3D print new parts. Spend some time uploading clips.
Genealogy and historical research. People emearse themselves in it for days, weeks, months, years, and decades. And in a sense for centuries.
Aww I’ve enjoyed reading all these hobbies, wholesome. I love walking my dog
Junk Journals! Making all the cool stuff to make the pages before putting them together into signatures then binding the signatures to make a journal. That doesn’t include actually using the journal yet.
Some really cool ones out there
Building my diy camper, continue creating digital/physical planner, crafts, linocut, painting, sewing, side hu$tles…
Music, vinyl/record collecting
camping
Where is your favourite spot to camp? What is a must to take with you when camping?
I have to pick and choose sometimes.
Me and my spouse like sight seeing. Not sure where you live but there are so many historical sites and national parks/forests/monuments in the US. Sometimes they sound lame but they really do make great day trips. Stop by the visitor center, buy a national/state park passport and stamp your book with each place you travel. Im convinced if they added pokemon stamps they would see an increase in foot traffic
When I'm home I'm primarily an artist. I like to do watercolor illustrations and collect art supplies. I really like the art supply collector side of youtube.
My gaming has decreased as I've gotten older but I still fit in gaming for the notable blockbuster releases.
Fitness in anyway is also good for your well being. Me and my husband have taken up indoor rock climbing. I also make sure I do small amount of weight lifting inbetween.
Walking and listening to audiobooks. If you're a dog owner you can listen to books and absorb the sun.
I take old electronics apart with the goal of reusing components for musical purposes. I spend at least a third of my waking life thinking about it in one way or another. Since I've really become involved with it my mental health and self esteem have improved a lot.
Houseplants and gardening
writing. Whether it's creative writing, journaling, or working on a novel, I find it incredibly fulfilling and immersive. I could easily lose track of time and spend entire days lost in the world of words. It's not only a creative outlet but also a way to explore my thoughts and emotions deeply.
hiking. canoe-camping. skiing.
Making jewelry. Been doing it since the mid 70’s and I’m never bored with it.
Making music.
What do you make music with?
Guitars, a keyboard, a computer and interface, and a one terabyte drive full of virtual instruments.
Sounds cool. Do you upload your music online?
Crochet and reading for me. Also used to do creative writing for hours on end, and gaming, but gaming got too expensive.
I could spend all the time outdoors. Out in the mountains climbing, stargazing, kayaking, and playing music.
Historical hand sewing. Every spare moment I get. When I had a knee injury and couldn’t work for two months I was able to test it. I really did just sew while watching sewing videos
Blacksmithing, leatherwork and carpentry do a great job of filling time.
Sculpting, and making sets of press-on nails
I would love to play with musical instruments all day. Repairing and maintaining them. Modifying guitars. And making some music too.
I knit a lot. Sometimes when I take a break from knitting I make quilts. Both are enjoyable hobbies.
Film photography. I process the film myself and enlarge it afterwards. Processing the 3 reels of film takes about 40 minutes for me, while enlarging and tweaking the photo to how I exactly want it on the gelatin print takes about 30-40 min on average. Once I start processing colored film, I expect this to go up even more. But I love the process, time flies by in my darkroom that I set up in my bathroom. 3 hrs feels like 1. And I just listen to audiobooks or music while I keep busy. It’s more satisfying to me than digital photography, so mulch so that I sold my digital camera to get darkroom equipment. I love how the grain looks to the eye, it’s the only time where I’ve ever taken photos of things and am actually satisfied with how it came out to the point of wanting to frame it and put it somewhere.
Learning stuff- Calculus, Physics, Biology, ML, Psychology, nutrition and anything that lightly interests me
I’m currently majoring in nutrition at college and i’m very passionate about it, it’s nice to see someone else interested in it too!
yes definitely, for me its sewing and/or knitting, basically making clothes or accessories. time flies by pretty fast when im sewing or knitting something!
Modeling - model railroads and create/print/paint display sized busts both can easily take up weeks or months, even if you work all day every day.
Oh yes. I've spent almost an entire day working on diamond art. Also I can work on a puzzle all day.
Sounds extremely fun! Do you ride your dirtbike alone or with friends?
Either doing projects in minecraft or working on a programming project. One is fun whilst the other makes me re-read 10 lines of text over a thousand times..
Genealogy
Crafts is my hobby is suppose, I can make stickers, knit, cross stitch, crochet, sewing, jewelry, art, etc I already do this all day outside of work, throw a podcast/youtube video/audio book on and I’m set for hours
Easily making music. I write acoustic guitar, piano, and have been practicing vocals. Endless things to learn in music production!
Yep. Making tree of life pendants, dreamcatchers, painting Terra cotta pots, gardening, making bracelets.
I have a lot of hobbies I could throw into rotation.
I don’t mind reading your hobbies though😌 the more the better
I fish, hunt, hike, archery, motorcycle, snowboard, draw, Legos, video game, juggle, and more lol
Art, crafting, creating!
So many?!! Writing, playing sims 3, reading, & embroidery! Haha
Sewing. I don’t do it often, but when I do i marathon it. lol. I kind of hate the prep portion, ironing, putting the fabric on grain, washing, cutting, etc, so when I’m finally done with all of that I’m so incredibly excited I can’t stop my self from binging the whole project. Like sorry husband, hope you’re ok with Ramen tonight, I’m pulling a 48 hour shift on this new dress I’ll only wear twice! lol. I don’t deserve him sometimes.
Between reading and tying macrame wall hangings, I really don’t do much else. I work and then I get my kids and come home and read or tie knots. It’s simple and it’s beautiful.
So many hobbies. I haven't even started them all. Currently coin hunting. Drawing. Watercolor. Cooking. Learning French. Just bought a calligraphy book. I paint wooden eggs for my grandchildren at Easter, working on a peephole Shadow box diarama, (a Christmas theme for the grandkids, watercolor paper cutouts of the family ice skating), Want to learn to make books. A host of crafts I haven't learned yet but have all the stuff for.
Guitar, drawing, or longboarding 🛹
I wish I had time to do any one of my hobbies all day.
If I practiced my instrument from morning to late afternoon every day, eventually I’d play at a level where I could do it for a living. So I’d pick that.
Genealogy can expand to fill all the time and energy you want to give it! Also gardening. Native plant and wildlife gardening is an addictive combo of frustrating and rewarding.
Game development or programming in general. Game development because it’s a new area & I’m a lifelong player. But programming in general, I can do for hours and not concern myself with anything else for quite some time
Hobbyist programming. I'm a software engineer and admittedly, am quite done with sitting in front of a machine at the end of the day. If I didn't have to work I would find joy in recreating algorithms, finding ways to shave milliseconds off of common libraries, and building solutions that actually help people. My career doesn't really offer much opportunity to build something for an external client that actually sees life change from it. Kinda depressing, but it pays the bills.
I home brew beer. An extract kit takes me typically 5 hours start to finish including cleanup. Then it’s patience for the next 6-8 weeks while it does its thing. Bottle prep is another couple of hours, and bottling and final cleaning is a couple more. I would like to get into all grain brewing but my living situation doesn’t permit it.
Cooking, gardening (growing food specifically), climbing (a reasonably new hobby), pole fitness, painting, reading 😃
Video games, legos, photography, gardening, wood working. I can't wait to be retired, only 20 years to go
listening to music, drawing, and writing, whether it be journaling or a short story.
Focusing on your health is something you could do all day. Staying active by walking, going to the gym, workout videos on YouTube. Then researching healthy recipes and cooking instead of heating up processed stuff or getting take out. Stretching and yoga at nighttime.
Writing, reading, drawing, acting/rehearsal (if I happen to be in a play)
Listening to music
Text-based roleplay/collaborative storytelling. I've literally spent 8+ consecutive hours writing out replies for just one RP. It's a ton of fun and a good way to sharpen my writing skills.
I have a model railway in my garden, building one in the garage and building a simple one in my front garden. One of the bridges in my yard took over two weeks to form up and pour concrete, it’s been 12 years and I haven’t done the detail work. Another took over 50 hours. Just cleaning my ponds takes an 8 hour day. I treated it like a job during Covid and it’s hard to tell what I even did I could spend MONTHS in my yard and not get where I want to be
Either reading, given that I have the right books to read, or camping.
Love to pitch a tent and go on walks explore the area or explore the city if closeby. This can be combined with Geocaching or wildlife spotting.
If my body could take it, I’d be speed skating for hours lol.
I can literally fill my entire day with reading and painting off and on! That’s usually what I do on my off days in between chores.
Running, Writing, and Guitar (playing any kind of music).
And, of course, nature and meditation. (Throw yoga in as well)
Video games
Not sure if it counts but I can listen to audiobooks all day
Coloring, sketching, reading, playing video games.
Yes! Knitting, spinning yarn, processing sheep fleece for spinning, dying spun yarn pretty colors, designing 3D printed objects (or printing things) and reading books.
Genealogy
I wish it was having a home, a family, a garden. For now it’s .. learning? exploring on walks?
I cross stitch. My projects are usually 2 feet by 3 feet. So they can take up to 6 months to a year.
Reading, videogames
I do diamond painting and L❤VE it so much!!!
Counted Crossstitch
I use Excel to track Powerball winning numbers and create stats on them... it keeps me super busy. Plus, figuring out formulas that will benefit me is time consuming yet stimulating.
3D modeling with Blender (open source software) Takes time and patience to learn but once you get skilled in it, you can make anything. I make furniture, houses, and clothes for avatars in Second Life.
You can make 2d or 3d animations, renders for ads, and lots of things of that nature.
Riding my touring bike. Longest is 8 weeks, to date! A year is the goal!
Absolutely I like to turn dirt into houses.
Looking for people who want to sponsor my hobby.
Just making gifts for friends and family. I always have a stockpile of ideas of gifts that I want to make for people I love and the list grows longer and longer every week. I can only manage to churn out a few each year (time and financial constraints). I’d love to sit and handmake gifts for forever 💛
Reading is my oldest hobby. I have several books and a Kindle to keep me occupied for years Crocheting- I have a ton of yarn on hand, most I've inherited from my mother. In the past I would randomly buy any craft kit that was on sale or whatever peaked my interest. Needle point, 3D puzzles, miniature kits etc. Of course only did like 1% of them. Trying to actually get through some of them now. Covid got me into houseplants so now I'm mother to around 40 or so plants lol So yeah I have quite a bit to keep me busy
Omg I could spend my whole life on hobbies. I have an entire stack of books I’d like to get through.
I play several instruments and would become better at each.
I paint. I could spend months locked away painting.
I garden, so I could spend a lifetime just with my own real and be happy growing and harvesting. The. Making delicious meals with them.
I love to write as well. I have several books in me, they’re just waiting for the time to pour out my fingertips.
I wish I was good at sewing. I know little to nothing about it. I would go to my mother if I needed a button sewn on. If I had the time I’d really focus on it.
I’ve also just picked up archery. If I had the time and the muscle, I’d get great at archery and throwing knives.
it would be making music,
i"ve got a nice collection of piano and keyboard instruments, but not a synthesizer yet,
i would get one and get familiar with it and make some awesome soundscapes with piano and more
i would be trying out classical music pieces to play and evolve into a more experienced player
Tracking/Trailing
I ride Harleys
Livestock and plants
Yeah I could play golf all day every day.
Reading, diamond painting, perhaps coloring, gaming
Writing books and self publishing.
And sewing.
Sewing, reading, making beaded jewelry, jigsaw puzzles, boardgames, watercolor painting...
I would garden all damn day if I could.
Yes video games
Geez…I get on a kick and binge then put it away for months. Crochet is a rather consistent one. I’m trying to keep it fresh by learning new stitches when I start to get bored. Often, I daydream of a life where I don’t have to work for money and of all the hobbies I could indulge in everyday all day.
Fishing usually fills up the nice days here in Texas and when it’s not a nice day I’m working on the boat cause something is always wrong. So can fill up everyday of the year
Hiking and backpacking. I am so obsessed that I hiked the AT and visit other countries to hike their trails.
Watching and researching Pro wrestling. You could have every moment of the day to yourself to watch every show and promotion you can, but you’ll never get close. There just so much to consume. Even following one company can eat up en entire day with watching shows.
Gardening, cooking, art
Skateboarding, takes a lot of time to perfect even the most basic of skills, and there is pretty much no skill cap, you just keep going and making up more stuff
Smoke weed amd listen to music over audiophile headphone rigs.
Fishing...as long as you catch at least one decent fish every other day you'll just keep chasing the dragon forever.
Yea I guess so. Smoking pot and playing video games
Reading
Knitting, crochet, needlepoint. I can knit a hat while reading a book on kindle
Reading, coloring, diamond painting, embroidery, watching TV, LEGO, playing Fortnite, etc. I attempted to learn to crochet but I’m just going to have to admit that it’s not for me. 😅
Pickleball and fishing. Could do it every day for the rest of my life
Gardening, cooking, dehydrating and preserving. Diamond painting , reading, crochet.
I don't have a single hobby but multiple hobbies. They are browsing, redditing, social media, listening to music, podcasts, news political discussions, collecting various things like movies, music, books and ebooks, doing photography, interest in new gadgets, troubleshooting computers, gadgets, reading both fiction and non-fiction etc... These things have been going on since childhood.
Absolutely. Chainmaille, beadwork, writing, philately, numismatics, knitting, gardening, reading, calligraphy... too many hobbies for the number of hours in the day. I seriosly need 40-hour days, esp as I've also started building an orrery from scratch. Just as well I'm a masochist lol
Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. I play almost every weekend, go to tournaments around New England, and assemble and paint them during the week. With 24 armies to collect and new models added all the time, I'll never run out of things to do in the hobby unless I stop playing.
Reading and volunteering
Reading. Making books into ebooks.
Oh God yes, scale models, warhammer 40k/30k/imperialis/kill team. Lots and lots of reading/audible. Gardening in the spring/summer. Livestock. Those are a few of the big ones.
I'm not kidding, does sleep count as a hobby?
Writing. It's an endless project with endless potential revisions.
Oh yeah. Big time.
Coin roll hunting: I can search through coins for hours on end. My last was a $500 box of quarters I got from the bank. No silver, but I got two Westpoint Mints and a Kansas state error quarter "In God we Rust." I rolled all the rest and returned them to a different bank, keeping my sweet finds.
Gardening: if it's a seed, I will plant it. Then I will mind it: flower, vegetable, a carrot top from kitchen scraps, a seed pod I find in the wild. One time I walked around in the grass in socks, then put the socks in a bag and kept them moist till germination, then buried the socks in a pot. Got some interesting wild flowers and grasses.
Sharpening: I once spent 4 hours straight at the bench grinder turning an ungodly thick and dull hatchet from Harbor Freight into something that could shave my face. I did bench grinder, 300 grit diamond stone, 1k grit japanese waterstone, then 6k grit. Knives, chisels, plane blades, scissors, clippers, pruning shears, I can do it endlessly.
Lockpicking: I have a decent set, and will spend hours picking padlocks in my skill level. It is all entirely by feel. Pressure, clicks, binding order, which pin is binding, which if any are security pins like spool pins, which tension wrench to use. It is fun and fascinating to me.
Drawing: I suck at it but sure love to do it.
Video gaming. Duh.
But someday, I hope to fill my time with a hobby I plan to pick up in retirement; sailing and cruising
I have grandiose ideas of how I'll someday be able to afford a motor yacht and/or a sailboat, and then spend summers cruising the Coast and intercoastal areas with family and friends.
A guy can dream
Reading. I could spend my entire life reading and never be bored. I just find it so exciting and there are so many different kinds of books you can read!
