What kind of automaton units would you like to see?

I'd like to see a massive shadow the colossus type enemy and defeating it is the only mission objective 

I wanna see the bots deploy little baby robot scorpions, they'd be like a pouncer but they don't jump around they just walk around really fast. Their entire purpose to distract, push helldivers out of cover and force players to pay attention to them even if they would be weaker then troopers.

I would like to see something like the Scarab from Halo. Huge robot you can walk around on top of and inside, that you gotta get into and blow up its heart to kill it. They're pretty close with factory striders but I'd want something bigger and less deadly so we can run around it more.

I wish they would bring back renditions of the Cyborgs from the first game.

I want to fight a mega Gundam flying across the Galaxy towards Super Earth. Don't know how it can be doable, but imagine looking at your galactic map and seeing a Space Gundam flying slowly towards Super Earth.

I would love to helldrop into Horizon Zero. But give me a Thunderjaw any day.

Ones that look like abandoned human buildings/vehicles props adorning the landscape but transform and attack.

Hell Terminators. Like the regular bots, but dressed in common Helldiver gear and have medium pen armor. They'll carry one of those heavy MGs the AT-ATs have and appear at most 1-4 at a time.

Shooting at them will slowly peel the Helldiver gear off them and reveal their insidious nature.

See The Animatrix, "The Second Renaissance" I'd love to see war with the bots progress in the same way. Starting off relatively humanoid, terminator-like bots, evolving into insectoid/cephalopod-like industrial killing machines as the gloves come off.

I’d like to see automatons learn how obsessed Helldivers are with lootables and begin to booby trap crates and pods with claymores.

It would also be cool for them to set more ambushes and traps near their bases.

Also maybe they learn from all of our strategems coming from the skies and build some walking shield generator units that you have to get close to and kill before your strategems can handle the rest of the patrol.

Some kind of drone swarm could work. Looks like a bunch of enemies clustered together, but it's really just one.

Honestly, an automaton version of a stalker would be cool.

Mine layer bot. It throws a grid of mines at / behind you that you need to weave thru, slowing your retreat. It's melee hit just rag dolls you back into the mines.

Imagine this with some saw-hands coming for you. Bot front would be scary.

big metallic sandworms, with really tiny weakspot in the middle of their "teeth" so that you can chuck a nade and blow it all up

Decipticons

A big truck with a spiky steamroller wheel that just tries to run you over. Maybe it could also have a small fabricator in the back that only makes the small humanoid bots that it drops behind it while it rampages.

That last one looks like a good use for spamming 500KG’s.

The idea of more powerful enemies that drop a few samples, or weapons you can use until the ammo is spent, that sounds super cool. Maybe a convoy you have to reach and attack before it gets to the destination?

Dog bots.

Tl,dr: Dogs that play catch with the helldivers' stratagem balls.

Basically, they'd stay behind their allies, waiting for a helldiver to throw a stratagem ball, only to catch it mid-air (NOT activating it while doing so) and drop it as close to the helldiver that threw it as possible, making it dangerous to throw stratagems near them as they'll just bring your 500kg eagle bomb back to you.

They don't attack, and if they're on their own, they'll basically act like stalkers and try to stay out of sight, but near the helldivers to try catching more stratagem balls.

Yes, this would be annoying. They'd probably be the first target to shoot in large fights.

Counter play : Just yeet a "Beneficial" stratagem, (like an EAT, supply beacon, ect...) to lure the dog close to you and in your sight. It'll bring it to you anyways.

Smaller, light armor aircraft. Like helicopters.

Flamethrower grunts that explode when you shoot them. Don’t let them get close, but if you take them out, it’ll fuck up a whole crowd of them. Nailing one in a dropship will blow up the drop ship.

More trooper variety. A flamer trooper would be terrifying. A trooper wearing helldiver armour poorly over their chassis to briefly confuse players

Used as a mobile factory, HQ, comms jammer, anti-aircraft platform, super heavy attack force and which can be - using artillery, tanks and immense casualties - at most delayed. DEMOCRACY CALLS!

Corruptors and Deathbringers would actually be nice to encounter

but a goddamn Horus would be World Boss Event where more than 4 Helldivers should fight it, i mean, Aloy did destroy one almost alone but it was 800 YO and malfunctioning

Assassins. They cloak and try to snipe you from distance. They camp where they spawn, but if they see a flare, they move towards it hoping to find you. Once they find you, they stalk your squad from afar and hit and run, until you kill them.

Infiltrator. Spawns rarely and impersonates a squadmate that if somewhere else, to kill everyone while their backs are turned away, then jetpacks away. Twice as cool if they'll have a some reference to Screamers.

Factory Centepedes.

Mimic crashpods.

Actual bosses that you have to learn out how to fight, and not just pop a railgun/laser/500kg until it dies.

I wanna see a sniper based Automaton that hides in high grounds, These Automatons are patrol based and cannot be found from dropship drops. Once found in a patrol that is being attacked they will run to the closest source of cover and provide fire from a sniper that can one shot a helldiver wearing light armor, Leaves a helldiver with medium armor at 10HP and a Helldiver with Heavy armor at Half HP.

Would love to see something like Destiny 2’s Tormentors or DRG’s Nemesis, that’s really tanky and can just fuckin grab you.

My critique of the current design of the murder robots is that their natural aesthetic is difficult to read in the environment under various conditions. This, in contrast to the much more pronounced design of the bugs by nature.

I get it ... ominous grey and black for their main colors is very ominous and imposing. However, a threatening color scheme isn't/shouldn't be the only consideration for an enemy unit in a game. Further more, their shell color isn't the only factor in good character design either, so if drab grey is the preferred color theme, then it should be balanced out by things like size and shape to make sure the design is readable in the environment.

I love the "terminator" theme for the death bots, especially with their beady glowing red eyes (which often isn't distinct enough) ... but they blend into the background and general noise of the game world way too much. I like fighting enemy units that I can see ... that are separated from the backdrop.

If we want to give some diversity to the bots, I think Bikers would be interesting.

They are fast mounted units that move up to a certain range than move in a circle pattern around the divers equipped with pistols. They don't A-move in a straight line like most bots do and use the same strafing pattern that hunters use at a range instead of in your face.

Also would be relatively easy to dispatch with primary weapons, thus giving weapons with better handling or firerate without the penetration that devastators require some more weight to them.

Ngl that last picture makes me want a gigantic building-like automaton that is only housed on the most terribly afflicted planets by the bots (Like, lets say, all of the Valdis sector and Cyberstan). The whole mission could be like in the pic where you go to various objectives; each one being a limb or node for the giant bot that we need to destroy. Could be them mining for metals or permanently polluting the planet, and with specific ways to eliminate limbs with the final fight being the 'body' or 'head'.

Would be so badass as a fight to run across the map, blowing up bots, dodging massive attacks and consistent onslaughts from the automatons before having a showdown with a now crippled map-sized bot to destroy it and clear the sector of their control.

I'm also imagining this with the vehicle's that were spoiled when the game first came out and driving around the squad dodging entire armies as we go from 'limb to limb'. I can just see my squad riding around in a big armored MAV from location to location trying to survive the chaos.

Giant robot that takes people (so it could show up during Civilian rescue missions) that can also take Helldivers, and Helldivers have the opportunity to damage it from the inside to try and kill it before it kills them.

Not a direct enemy idea but It’d be particularly cool if there was a massive automaton unit out of reach/on the horizon absolutely destroying things, firing rockets or lasers at unseen targets.

Kind of like the Reaper on Palavan from Mass Effect 3.

I would like some sort of analog to the scavengers on bug side, like a lil tank with a commissar's pistol strapped onto it.

On the complete opposite side, I WANNA FIGHT A SUPER HEAVY TANK, something like the P.1000 Ratte or E-100, something that would be exclusive to a boss fight mission.

Want Skynet HK-Tank from The Terminator as Super-Heavy automaton unit.

In HD1 there is a small fast melee only robo dog. Like straight out of Boston Dynamics.

Would be interesting to see a hit and run unit. Have it able to run quickly, leap, and grapple the side of cliffs/trees/buildings.

Even if it doesn't attack players it would be a scout to watch out for and eliminate before bot drops are called.

I'd love to see more Terminator style vehicles and spider-like units being the Automatons already have a lot of Terminator inspirations

Honestly if the bots started making robotic versions of the bugs that would be really damn cool but also a massive bitch to deal with because of the armour.
