Idk. Sam definitely would have helped raise james. Jerry could have gone either way but it might have been worse for everyone. I'm just saying she had options but she chose what she thought was best for her boys. But yes barney is funny as hell.
Tbf, we donât know for sure that Sam would have been a good dad. For all we know, he could have knowingly abandoned James and Loretta. Ofc when confronted by his long-lost son after 30 years heâs gonna say âI wanted to be involved, but Loretta wanted to do it on her ownâ. That allows him to save a hell of a lot more face than if heâd owned up to being a deadbeat dad.
First of all- why would Loretta ever want that? Clearly she had a lot going on in her personal life; and it seems like she def could have used all the help she could get. Second of all; even if she did want that; Sam had parental rights. He could absolutely have fought her for custody and/ or visitation; had he wanted to.
But when he finally met James, James wasnât exactly demanding explanations from him. So at that point, why wouldnât he just take the easy way out & make that excuse? It makes him look & feel a lot better than if heâd admitted the truth. And it leaves the door open for him and James to have a much easier relationship as adults than if heâd admitted the truth.
Fact of the matter is, whatever else might be true, all we know for sure is that even tho he knew of Jamesâs existence, Sam went 30 years w/o even trying to find him. Thatâs not really the hallmark of a decent father.
all of the characters are written to be an exaggeration of something. barneyâs character is genius, in my opinion. he was the worst in so many ways, but he has a million redeeming qualities and he grows so much over the show (i pretend the alt ending is real.) theyâre all meant to bring comedic relief by these outlandish personalities. kinda gotta hate em and love em, theyâre human
