Honeymoon recommendations

Hello!

Next month we are going to Greek for honey moon and we would like to get some recomendations of places to visit.

We are thinking about spending first 2 days in Athens, then 2 days in Paros, after that 3 days in Santorini and finally another 4 days in Crete before a last day in Athens to get back home. How do you see our journey? Would you change any of them to visit another island like Milos, Rhodes or any other?

Also, if you can recommend us any hotel/village... to stay or give us any tip we would be more than happy.

I have a few thoughts: 2 days in Athens to start makes sense. But I truly believe you shouldn’t spend less than 3 nights in any single place. This has been my travel rule for a long time because before I imposed this practice, I was always settling into a place but already had to think about leaving… 3 nights gives you 2 FULL days in your stay. I promise this is the best way to travel! So I would do 3 nights in Paros, followed by 3 in Santorini. But if I’m honest, I don’t think. You need a 3rd island on your trip, you could easily enjoy 4 in Paros and 4 in Santorini and then relax in Athens before returning home. The less places you visit, the less time in transit and the more time together on your honeymoon slowing down and relaxing! If you insist though, I would recommend staying close to the Cyclades and not going all the way to Crete or Rhodes. So you could add Naxos or Milos.

As for Paros. It is pure magic! Some of the best beaches in the world… especially if you include Antiparos: the beaches near Ubini Rocks in the south are some of the best I’ve been to in all the Mediterranean. Hire a boat for a day to explore the coastline… it will be so memorable! And exploring Paros beaches and small towns and all the great restaurants is wonderful. You can find them on your own but I will mention a few things that are standouts. A visit and tour of Petra farm & winery is excellent. And also a visit to Moraitis winery is great too! And visiting the town of Lefkes is special. Beaches at Kolimbythres and Monastiri can be crowded but they are beautiful. Kalogeros beach on the other side is great too, with natural clay cliffs. I respectfully disagree with another commenter on Santorini. While they are correct that it’s crowded, it’s crowded for a reason: it’s gorgeous! And there is so much more to do on the island besides watching the sunset. There are a few great wineries to visit: Argyros, Sigalas, Hatzidakis. And exploring the south and west of the island plus the interior can be fun. You need a car though. You can also hire a boat for a day or half day to go swimming, snorkeling, exploring. Where to stay? I think anywhere north along the caldera rim from just north of Imerovigli all the way to Oia is best.

3 days is Santorini is kinda much imo, you will probably get sick of how crowded it will be. Its nice to go see one sunset take some pictures and walk around but you can probably do all that with one night stay on the island. But then again some people dream of going to Santorini for their honeymoon so it depends on how much an interest you have for Santorini. The rest seems good, maybe Milos is a better island than Paros for freshly married couples but overall decent plan.

Thank you very much! My future wife has been on Paros a few years ago and she liked a lot, that´s why we want to get there. Maybe we could go to Milos instead of Creta for a shorter travel between islands and more relaxing plans.

Do you really want to travel around so much? After all the chaos on the wedding I would just do something like athens-milos-paros relax a bit.

We think 3-4 places is just correct for 12-14 days, We are adventurers and we like to visit new places, we will have time to relax when we get back home hehe

ok I would do your visit to Athens in one go... meaning do it first then take the ferry somewhere, and then catch a flight back to Athens for your flight back home so that you only have to leave the airport and go into the city once. Or connect to a flight to the islands through Athens and do the city at the end on the way back. Like Athens 2 nights... ferry to milos - paros - santorini (not so many days) - crete, fly back to athens, don't even leave the airport connect home. Or do the reverse.

I would do 3 places for that time. I have a 12 day trip to Milos/Paros/Athens coming up and I had a hard time with fitting in all the activities I wanted to do in the split time period.

Agree that this is too much moving around. But it is very hard to give recommendations if you don't say when you are going and what kinds of activities you are interested.

I'm literally leaving for Greece today. I'm doing Athens 2, Crete 5 Days (going for work), Mykonos 2, Santorini 2. I'm staying at the Atlantica Kalliston Resort near Chania (there are a lot of all inclusive resort around the island). I would recommend the Grecotel LUX ME White Palace. I'm not staying there because is somewhat far from where my project is.

My recommendation from my itinerary: i would leave Crete for the end and stay at an all inclusive. So after jumping around from island to island you can unwind at an all inclusive and just relax. That way you can end the trip with a bang (pun intended) relaxed and ready to go home.

I believe you will move a lot and miss the relaxation and romance of the honeymoon. My honest opinion, Crete is a very big island, and for me spending 4 days only there would be like staying only one. I would either leave it for another trip, or book my entire honeymoon there. As an ex hotelier in Athens, people who visited Greece for island hopping always underestimated the distances between major sights in Crete and were disappointed that they spent time there only to see so little. Thus, people who came back for a second time just booked their entire 1-2 weeks in Crete only.

If you remove Crete from your itinerary, I would definitely add Milos (and Kimolos, which I am in love with). Since you want to include Paros, you can also visit Antiparos. And of course Santorini. Kimolos is accessible via Milos, and Antiparos via Paros, you only need a backpack to take with you and spend a day in each. I could live by not visiting Antiparos, though if you plan on going to Milos, Kimolos is a must.

I would leave Rhodes for a next trip as well. It is too far from Cyclades. You may include if you are planning a trip to the Dodecanese, so that would be Rhodes-Symi-Chalki-Karpathos.

Thank you for your reccomendations!! We will finally go to Milos instead of Crete, and we will spend 3 nights there. Do you think it is worth going to Kimolos with just 3 full days in Milos? We will take a look!

We stayed 1 night at Kimolos, we were with my motorcycle and it was enough to tour some notable places/beaches there. However, if I find myself again to Kimolos I will just rest at Prassa beach drinking cocktails all day.

If I recall, there are day cruises from Milos that take you to Kimolos as well. You might want to check it out. For me Prassa is one of the finest beaches I've ever visited along with Simos in Elafonisos as a Greek.

Congrats! Im smack dab in the middle of my honeymoon and did 2 nights in Athens, halfway through 4 nights in Paros, with 3 coming up in Santorini then flying to Naples and heading to amalfi coast for 4 nights. 2 week total, similar itinerary. While the bopping around isn’t for everyone, I like adventuring more than lying on the beach (can’t sit still.) It’s a bit cold and windy for the beaches on shoulder season right now, but we’re okay with it!

I think you’re fine with how you are planning it, although I hear Crete almost deserves its own week minimum (and likely a car).

We landed early in Athens and took advantage of the Museum of the Acropolis before checkin (while in a 24 hour straight awake haze), had a siesta and nice dinner before falling asleep again - and then packed a full next day including the acropolis and ancient agora before a ferry the following. I was happy and fine with two nights, three days in Athens. Very cool city!

As for the islands, I recommend a car for many of them. We did our first two nights carless and used bus and a couple taxis, but the bus schedules (while a good bus system) still ended up requiring a lot of waiting, and ended up taxi’ing, which gets pricey. We’re renting a car for the next two nights to truly have full freedom and explore all the island (and antiparos) has to offer (just a ten minute ferry from Pounta and 8 euro to get across with a vehicle). Happy to update on Santorini when we finish it. Have fun!
