Anyone here ever go to Skopelos?

I feel like I’m the only one. Ofc many ask about Santorini and the surrounding islands, and I totally understand as many are going to Greece for the first time.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone talk about it. One of my favorite islands and I love the Skiathos / Skopelos duality. Very different islands, and beautiful fragrant pine forests which is a departure from the more touristed dry desert climates.

I’ve been to Andros, Lesvos, Chios (one of my favorites. Adore this place), Santorini, Milos, skiathos, Skopelos, Folegandros, Kefalonia, Lefkada, and visiting the Peloponnese for the first time and staying in Finikounda and going to Voidolokia beach this summer. Also dying to go to Hydra and Kalamata, maybe I’ll be able to sneak that in this year. We go every year from the US and stay with family in Kitsi. Hopefully one day will be able to get a small condo in Voula!

I'm going in June and excited. It will be my first trip to Greece and my partner and I are doing a bit of an odd first trip in order to hit up some of the spots his ancestors are from. We are starting in Athens and driving down to Kythira for a week, then making our way up to Volos with stops in Monemvasia, Nafpaktos, and Meteora, then exploring the Pelion for a few days before ferrying over to Skopelos.

If you have any favorite spots on Skopelos, I'd love to hear them!

I have a map of spots in the Pelion area that served us super well during our trip there last year! We absolutely loved it. I don’t have time to write a long comment right now but remind me and I can share some specific recs!

That actually sounds amazing. Those are some “deep cuts” and you’ll definitely experience Greece in its truest form. I always wanted to go to Meteora.

I can’t really remember any of the restaurants I’ve went do (honestly it’s all a blur as I go to tavernas every night when I’m in Greece), but Agnanti was a real treat. Glossa village is super small but very quaint. And Mama Mia cliff it’s insane. Go at dusk! I actually proposed to my wife there.

We rented a boat in Panormos and cruised around the island. That was amazing as well.

Wait there’s some stuff coming back to me now:

Paraiso Beach Club by Nea Klima was really cool. They had like these rope loungers and I remember being small boutiques there so you can go shopping while you sun on the beach.

Also we found this restaurant hotel called Natura that was in the port you arrive in (if you take this route), and I remember walking past the little village and along the sea, and there were two or three little fish tavernas right on the water. Both were excellent and you can plenty of room to just walk around that beautiful area and down to the village. If you want to locate on a map, one of them is called Taverna Flisvos

All of those pics are of Natura and the walkway /fish tavernas, and the village, and the one with the teepee rope loungers is the beach club. Also the music there is chill it’s not like what you may be thinking of at other beach clubs. Like even my in-laws loved it lol.

So, that’s cool to do. I never did this stuff on my first Skopelos visit because I didn’t know it existed. You really need to venture to find this stuff and there’s few guides for the island as it’s not super touristed.

I am planning to go in June with my husband and daughter! I wasn’t completely sure if we should - we have some relatives there I’ve never met and I’ve never been to Greece. Thinking of spending maybe 5 days at the end of our trip there

It’s crazy beautiful. I’ve seen many islands and it stands in the top 3 for me.

Yes. Love Skopelos, Skiathos and especially Alonissos and the marine park.

This sub is largely frequented by Americans and for them, these islands aren’t really on the radar. As you’d know though they are very popular with a lot of Europeans as there is an airport with direct flights to Skiathos.

I didn’t unfortunately. Lots of goats! The seals are off in a restricted area we couldn’t approach with our boat. You might be able to with a tour, not sure.

I think each place is popular within a specific country/area. For example, in Romania where I'm from Zakynthos, Halkidiki, Thassos, Rhodes and somewhat Skiathos are the most popular Greek destinations.

I'm surprised Skopelos isc so low key among the Americans even though the Mamma Mia movie has scenes that were filmed there.

Your itineraries show you’ve been to Greece many times. For first timers the usual itinerary is an island or two in the Aegean and/or Crete.

I go to Kalamata every year (FIL is from there). i think you ll like it a lot. Especially if you drive south to Kardamili/Stoupa.

I was on Skiathos and Skopelos 5 years ago, and those are wonderful islands. I even got engaged on Skiathos :) If you like islands like them you should visit Lefkada

We are heading to Skiathos next week for our third visit and we always plan to spend time in Skopelos. It has a different feel, can't explain it, but we love it. I think it's because you have to access it by boat so it feels a bit more exclusive.
