Why does he try to act like a mob boss? 😭
When Penn went on Conan’s podcast he jokes that Chuck bass is like a yakuza member
He sounds so condescending regardless of the scene/context.
I feel like this is the point, even tho it is in a very cringe way😭 Couldve been done better
When he angry whispers like there are some scenes where he’s mad at a low volume and it kinda feels as if a drunk and quite Batman impersonator stumbled onto the screen otherwise it’s fine
finally someone said it! if anyone spoke to me like that irl i’d have to contain my laughter 😭
I always thought it was just like he was new to the American accent and then the voice became the character
Can an American pick up on the accent to realize that the actor is actually British? I'm asking, of course, as someone who didn't realize the actor was actually British.
Certain words are really hard for people with accents trying to speak with a different accent.
For example, David Tennant when he played the doctor on Doctor Who, could not make the oo sound in spoon without his Scottish accent coming out. so of course, the writers wrote an episode that forced him to say the lines, "a platoon of jadoon upon the moon."
And vice versa? How difficult is it to 'switch' accents? For example, for me as a Croatian who speaks, let's say, standard Croatian, it's almost impossible to imitate a northern or southern accent. In fact, regardless of success in copying the accent or skill in hearing, it's always possible to recognize when someone is 'imitating' an accent.
Americans doing other american accents is usually easily spotted because we just exaggerate the accent and don't have the local dialect/speech patterns and stuff. All my first generation american friends are fantastic at imitating their families' accents though, especially my asian friends. I think it's because Chinese is a very tonal language.
Most people who aren't american who try to imitate thw american accent usually go for the easiest ones, mid-atlantic or valley girl
It's like he's trying to talk with a sultry voice
it’s like those men who make their voice deep on purpose LOOL
That just brought flashbacks from a character from on my block, he made his voice deeper when he officially became a gangster and all the fans were wondering why and making fun of him 😭
LMFAO GIRL i know exactly what your talking about 😭 like keep it original dude!
I personally LOVE it, at first it was an ironic, mocking him sort of way but after my 3rd full watch through, I LIVE FOR IT! SWOOOOON
😍
Makes me want to say 'Yeah, and?' 😀
no.
LOL!!
Lol
I used to find it cool. Now it’s cringe
i felt like with each season it progressively got more cringe somehow
I think it’s iconic. It fits the character
😍
I hate the way he talks. There’s no way that’s his natural voice. It’s definitely cringe like dude stop trying so hard, please.
Of course it's not his natural voice. Ed Westwick is british
He sounds like male Serena. Too lazy to actually enunciate
i think it could be because hes originally british. i know people can struggle to get the accent so go down a bit in their voice because they find it easier
He and other British actors say that speaking in a lower growling voice helps them have an American accent ie House
ME TOO HE PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH
It's cool when you're 14 and now at 30 it's ick.
The show was demographed for high schoolers.
Yess it srsly cringes me out
My Husband walks around saying "I'm Chuck Bass." In the lego batman voice.
I already wrote it in another thread, but it’s to convey how much of a tormented soul he is.
It's so cringe and honestly giving wattpad💀 It's like if batman was 14 with brain damage trying to be sexy. Hate it. Hate chuck. But anyway....
For me it's most of the time fine, feels natural and I don't even notice. But there are some lines and scenes where it bugs me a lot because it is so obvious he is trying to sound like that and it's so cringe 😭😭
I cringed in the earlier seasons when he went “I’m Chuck Bass”. But it got better with time haha
I thought it was attractivd when I was 14 and now QN unacceptable amount of yeae s later... it just seems normal for him when I watch haha
I find his wannabe mob boss voice very soothing.
Yes!!! It's like he's aiming for a languid, seductive drawl but getting it a bit wrong. So he sounds like he's had a stroke or something.
I don’t. I find it/him sexy. I notice lots don’t share my opinion lol. Oops.
