I just bought a used xt200 with 15-45mm kit lens to learn and practice. I went to take some pictures on a street last night with a friend. I've kept the ISO at auto3 (Min. 200 & 6400 Max) and played with shutter speed and aperture for light control. I've found that the jpgs are good enough and were produced the way I somewhat intended but the raw files are much more grainy with whole other look to them. I know this is probably a silly question and raws are supposed to be edited but how can I improve my low light photography in raw, so that the photos are well exposed without much noise. How can I improve my skill on the xt200 or is it just not going to be enough or do I need some other kind of prime or telephoto lenses?
Okay......so what would you suggest in terms of the lens should I invest my money in.......a prime or a zoom and what focal length? Thanks for the advice.
I don't know your preferences, nor your budget. You'll need a prime for the biggest benefit, so what focal length do you prefer ?
Alternatively you could get sigma 18-50,.although I am a prime person so that would be my first choice.
I was thinking of a prime too but since I've just got it a few days back and just starting out getting to know the camera what the capabilities it has albeit not that much but still I was thinking of getting a lil better with the 15-45mm before getting the 35mm f2 prime from fuji......would that be a good choice for street photography including the night?
Not OC, but I use the 35mm f2 as my main lens; 80% of the photos I take are during the day, 20% after sunset, without a tripod. The lens is a good option for street photography at night IF you you use artificial light to your advantage (neon signs, street lights, digital billboards, etc). Otherwise you'll want to invest in something faster, especially if night photography is something you want to focus on.
Work with the zoom lens for now, see how you like the process while you learn all the features of the camera. You can get an affordable manual focus lens like the TTartisan 35mm 1.4 if you want to get an idea about how a prime would work for you. Then later down the road you can sell both and get a nice Fuji prime you like (fuji 35mm 1.4 or fuji 23mm f1.4 are some good options).
I was thinking of TT artisans too. Thanks for the detailed inputs, I'll try and implement that.
Sorry to piggyback off this comment but how do you find the TTartisan 35mm? I assume because of the crop sensor it's more like a 50mm focal length?
For the cheap price does it produce reasonable images? I like the idea of being forced to shoot manual so I've been thinking about this lens.
I can't comment on the image quality of the TTartisan, since I use the Fuji XF 35mm f/2. But the focal length is indeed around 50mm, a very versatile option if you like shooting a bit of everything (like I do).
If you just want to have fun, get the TTartisan and enjoy. As far as I know, it produces decent images. If you fall in love with the focal length, you can always buy the Fuji 35mm later.
