What does this have to do with finance lol

I live in a rowhouse. The house next door was being renovated by flippers. We smelled gas in our home on two occasions.

The first time: the utility came and tagged our gas line. We called out a gas fitter to check it out. Everything was fine.

A few months later, our house was full of gas. Again, called them out. They tagged our gas line and were about to leave, but I told them that renovations had been happening next door.

The utility worker put his sniffer up to the next door house and was getting strong readings. The fire department came out and forced their way into the unoccupied home. They shut off the gas. It was leaking, big time.

I emailed my city council rep to ask about permits. None were pulled for that work. They shut it down within 24 hours.

It's not snitching when it represents a tangible threat to safety.

Oh I don’t consider it “snitching” when it’s someone who owns multiple properties.

I'm generally not a fan of getting into neighbors business even if it's mildly bothersome, but you are doing Lords work. Until there are laws that help homes stay as places for people to live in instead of corporations making a quick buck, we should fight back any way we can

lol I was just curious but I looked up my neighbors property on our code site to see if they had proper permitting for an addition they are doing. I just wanted to see what was pulled and see if I could gauge what’s going on. I couldn’t find anything but someone from the county tried calling me and I just ignored it. I see a few government vehicles driving by our street and then this is where the story gets crazy. Turns out they had no permits and the addition is being done by a handyman and a bunch of home depot workers. On top of that the people living there are renters the home owner had no idea. We are talking they took our half the roof of this single story home and made it a two story. Looks like they are adding two bedrooms and a bathroom up there. It looks decently done and I am not sure anything is wrong about it but the fucking audacity of some people lol.

I kind of wonder what will happen but they have been work stopped for like 3 weeks now. I still hear the kids playing in the yard of the renters so they haven’t been evicted or the house hasn’t been condemned for any reason but just imagine, no structural engineer has investigated this prior to make sure it would work, no permits were pulled for electrical, sewer, etc so we don’t know if the utilities around here need any expanding or work or what not and at the state it is in the homeowner effectively lost a huge chunk of money. If it is finished the homeowner might make a ton of money but currently it doesn’t look good.

I hate the word snitch. I hate the word Karen. It’s so childish and irrational! As if the person I’m calling out is some sort of a King or Queen that we all owe allegiance too. It really goes to prove that self obsession and narcissistic tendencies really are on the rise. No. I’m doing the right thing. If someone doesn’t want to be outed then they can do a proper job instead of being a fuck up, often times a life long fuck up with no conscience or empathy for the people they screw over.

WTF would anyone consider this "snitching?" I've always hated that word, because saying nothing to authorities about bullies' behavior allows them to get away with it? Do anti-snitchers think that a property flipper should get away with ripping off the people who buy the property? Do they believe that the buyers will do some street justice on the flipper?

This isn't snitching. This is someone who was illegally tying into the utility provider that everyone pays for. Not paying and tying in will get you a serious fine and further consequences.

Ignore the "Don't tell" crowd. Not filling in the old tank!? That has killed people. You might have saved lives. Aside from they were doing dirty and running up costs for people who do the right thing just because it is the right thing to do.

I had the total opposite reaction after looking at a real estate listing on a flipped house.

There were flagrant code violations, some fire hazards, electrical problems. I went to City Hall to inquire about the status of permits. When I named the address to the secretary, the inspector came out from behind the corner and said, "didn't he do a wonderful job on that house?"

I am convinced he had been paid off by the flipper.

The thing is when you go to sell Or resale these properties and things havent been done to code or properly permitted it could be expensive for the next buyer or downright dangerous.

You may also find that when you go to sell the lender finds out and you can’t secure financing.

As a wife of a tradesman that has flipped homes don’t do this. If you can’t pay full Price for renovations then you cannot afford to be a flipper.

The system only works when we all follow the rules.

I DIY extensively... and I HATE++ flippers. The thieves that flipped my house have cost me so much money -- and it's a minor miracle that my house hasn't burned-down, yet (major NEC violations... everywhere).

If you don't know WTF you're doing -- and you're too lazy to learn the 100% correct way of doing it... it is immoral to do that BS. I wish there were a way to make people pay for the financial harm they cause others with their greed, laziness, and stupidity.

A few years ago, we rented a house from a private owner (we found out later that he had several properties). LONG story but basically: We didn't plan on being there very long so put up with it being a craphole. A very expensive craphole.

We moved in the summer. Had a warm fall. End of November, we turned on the heat and BAM! the furnace tripped the WHOLE HOUSE every time (we could have a couple of small lamps on max). I knew that was messed up, but we were planning on moving out anyways. It was a very old house so I figured there was bad wiring. Then I'm outside, and the neighbor tells me that the whole back of the house burned up about 10 years prior. He seems very concerned about us living there. I go to the fire department. Sure enough, whole back of the house burned down. Electrical fire. House was not still all burned up, so I go to the permit department and find out they didn't get a permit to rebuild burned up part of house. They must have rewired everything themselves and the breaker box was still the original one (put in long after house was built but probably 1940s).

Had problems with the landlord (again, VERY long story) so I called the city and had them come check the house. Electric was FUCKED. So we moved out and we drove by a couple of weeks later and ... LMAO ... they had to redo everything up to code AND had to hire an actual electrician to install electric (truck was out front).

We could have burned up in that house. Thank you for looking out for your fellow citizens.

I’m glad they posted it here. The literal definition of the incentives of capitalism failing the consumer (if these flippers had gotten away with it).

I will never pretend that the producers of most products actually give a shit about me or my family; they literally only exist to make profits. Which is fine. But don’t virtue signal and start pretending like you care about people when you just want profits. It’s a literal virus. “I’m good because I’m rich!” And some of these folks believe that. Your human value and what impact you make in the world isn’t solely tied to “money”; and it’s ridiculous that people attach self worth to how much they “make”.

Most of the most influential people throughout time lived penniless, and still did great things. Only do be cherished after they died.

I don’t think anyone ever eulogized about how awesome someone was for chasing money and self aggrandizement ever. And if they did, they were probably severely lacking in worldly wisdom.

Always wreck cheaters. I buy and properly renovate the worst houses I can find, but I do ALL the work using pro contractors, all the permits, all the inspections, and good quality finishes. I show up to closing, meet the new owner, and hand over a binder of all the docs and warranties for the new appliances, slab work, whatever I’ve done.

I HATE flippers. They fuck the market up for everybody and we should all find ways to make their lives miserable.

Had a realtor who was checking out a house with me, said they weren't sure if the garage converted into a living space had the permits filed for it, and if I bought it and it turned out there were no permits, I'm on the hook for that. When I was attempting to buy I had the bare minimum in cash, didn't have any extra tens of thousands to cover permits as well.
