I'm replaying FF9 and during Disc 3 I left the town and went out on the world map. Alexandria is on a cliff with no discernible way to get down. Also there is a massive forest, a river, and a waterfall creating numerous obstacles to traverse at the bottom of the cliff. Yet that people travel to/from Lindblum from Alexandria on foot via Summit Station and the cable cars, how the heck do people make this journey?
As a side note...how does that waterfall keep going?
