Etsy refunding buyers' tax. Is Etsy supporting wholesale ordering now?

I think it might just be for tax exempt organizations, or if the item is supposed to be tax free in that state

Yup, i have a few businesses that purchase from me regularly and this is how tax exempt orders go for some states. They order, submit their tax exemption to etsy then etsy refunds the tax paid.This happens when etsy collects and remits for their state, otherwise it's up to us.

So I do this when I buy materials on etsy for the products that i make to sell. You have to pay the tax when you order, but etsy will refund you the tax if you have a resale certificate. You don't need to be a charity or anything.

You just message Etsy support and tell them you want to submit your resale certificate to have the sales tax refunded on business purchases. They will tell you how to upload your certificate and once you provide it to them they will keep it on file so you don't have to do it again.

When you want to get your tax refunded, they will ask you for a list of order numbers with the dates and dollar amounts. If the orders were in the last 6 months they will refund the tax to your payment card. If they are older than 6 months they can't do a refund so they will credit your etsy account for the tax amount instead (gift card). I do this once a year and it's a very easy process!

The buyer has sales tax exempt status, meaning they have filed as a vendor in their state and are purchasing to resell or are a non-profit organization. Check your state laws. You probably have to register as a business or 501c3 and be issued a tax exempt number that you use when you make purchases.
