And I think the idea of "family is important" stemmed from religion to put individuals under more pressure if they want to express different point of view. In a way being in a family help any given society be more homogeneous.
Also I think the continuous thoughts about our parents whom we left to protect ourselves is just a way of avoiding mechanism. It is easier to dwell on the thought instead of moving on and work and be practical about what we believe we can achieve in this life time.

According to Joseph Griffith's biological theory of human condition, we're probably supposed to live like a community of Bonobos, so yes on "community"/"village" instead of just family.
I especially agree with this when I'm with my people, my chosen family if you will. We could be apart for five years, but the moment we met, we can talk for hours, about anything, and still have the same value.
