Helping out a redditor with subdivisions
“I am the walrus.”
Sending you a dm
I own one. I've taught with it and played with it for 15 years. My last higschool coaching job had 5 of these things for marching band. They are great, but not worth the money for a regular or gigging drummer. If you have the means, you'll be happy with it mostly. If you don't, 90% of the widely useful functions could be found on a metronome 1/4 the cost.
Also, a years long frustration of mine has been the onboard memory. As soon as your internal batter needs changing, all of your presets will be erased. You can program an entire 7-8 minute show with ALL tempo changes and measures. Then the battery dies, and an hour of programming is lost. Yes it plugs in and yes the battery still dies eventually. No solution for this and it's $150 on a good day.
Most fun function for me is the timing piezo sensor. Set it up on a practice pad and it will tell you how accurate your notes are inside your subdivisions. It's an awesome tool with stupid old quirks that Boss should have fixed over a decade ago.
Edit: stupid spelling errors
I would love to see Boss update this metronome. I wonder if there are any plans. I noticed Stanton Moore used this for live gigs.
I have one. I don't use it anymore but it was pretty amazing.
I should use it way more often. Excellent tool for tightening everything up
I use a metronome religiously, but I just use my phone app. I could use this to free up my phone for videos
Exactly why I love this! I usually use my phone for other stuff, the DB90 is a great stand alone metronome
I like my app because it logs my practice time, though I can have it log "silently" where it doesn't play the click sound.
I always thought about buying a DB – 90, but never pulled the trigger on it.
I love it, very versatile- love the different voices and the subdivisions, great for working on displaced click stuff
That’s the exact reason why I want to get it is for the subdivisions. Thanks for the video I’m sold.
No problem, glad to hear it!
One of my best Craigslist finds was a db-88 in mint condition with original case and manual for $10. I treasure that thing
This triggers marching band flashbacks for me
That would send me to insanity. I use a drum machine for a more organic sound.
I can swear I heard 'pizza' in one of the subdivs...
This seems very helpful, but I’ve never seen this before and I can’t help but think of a quote from the big Lebowski “You’re out of your element, Donnie.”
