I don't have much time or many items to donate, but I'm looking to make a habit of making regular donations. What are some good local charities? Have you had any experience working with them?
I'm looking to donate some money to local charities. What are some of your suggestions?
Seconding this recommendation, also speaking from personal experience
the free therapy thru friends of the family was sooo helpful to me after my own DV experience. they also offer legal aid that I wasn't able to take advantage of but I'm sure would've been great based on my experiences with everyone else there.

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.
Metro Auto Ministries in Denton has done amazing work. They work with a lot of low income and homeless people that live out of their cars. Brad got his phd and then started an organization as a mechanic.
Interfaith Ministries of Denton. It's a non-denominational non-profit that helps folks in emergent needs. Usually, the goal is to help people from losing housing.
DMAC please! Helps so many in this community.
LovePacs sends kids who are food insecure home with a backpack of food every Friday and extra food before breaks. They do great work helping kids who are only guaranteed food during school hours.
Thank you for being so thoughtful to want to donate somewhere local and for posting this. I didn’t know about DMAC until reading through the comments.
ODB is great, and I also like to advocate for DMAC! They help provide health insurance for artists that are attempting to make a career out their craft. Such a cool org!
Starving Student Ramen Fund.
Every dollar provides 2 meals to a hungry young scholar.
Solutions of North Texas. They help people get and stay sober. They’ve also started the first jail diversion program, and created sober living for mothers
This may seem weird but im a struggling student if you wanted to personally donate to me as well!
Up Ministries is dedicated to feeding and clothing children in Denton. They have expanded so much in the last ten years, they are now providing meals over the summer and on weekends, and they do a big back to school event with supplies and shoes. All the other charities mentioned are great too.
Children's Advocacy Center
Friends of the Family is awesome too

Denton County Friends of the Family.
They do work to support survivors of abuse, assault, intimate partner/domestic violence. They have a 24/7 hotline, domestic violence shelters, free counseling/therapy and support services/social services for survivors and clients in their shelters, advocacy/advocates to get people out of dangerous situations, sexual assault crisis teams, community outreach/community education (presentations, programs, tabling, etc.), and abuse prevention trainings. They also run a mentorship and camp program for the children of the clients living in the shelter/enrolled.
DCFOF partners with a lot of other nonprofits very frequently, making them a network to where you know literally any donations/money will go so directly and actively to supporting people in some way. For example, they run drives constantly for various needs, and a lot of them are supportive of other things in the area (backpack drives partnered with the elementary schools, grocery drives partnered with the food bank, diaper drives partnered with local parent education services, etc.).
I have personal experience and know people who have worked with them in several different capacities.
