It's not a serious question as it's based on a dumb clib in Instagram where some Swede(?) explained some stereotypes about different countries such as Norway as ski loving rich nation, Swede's bureaucracy and Ikea etc. When he came do Denmark he said that "we don't like them". There were hundreds of comments and many of them confirming that they don't like Denmark too. What is back story of it?
This, it is all in good fun.
We don't like the swedes either
They don't like us because we are better than them, we don't like them because they smell terrible u see?
There is 1 good thing about sweden.
Their neighbors
... to the South. Their neighbors to the South.
Poland? Elective monarchy ftw!
Yes and you'll find the same type of banter between some other western European countries. From the outside it can look like we hate each other, but we don't
Denmark and sweden holds World record for most wars fought between them…
They did copy our flag and colored it after piss in the pond.
Unforgivable
The Norwegians envy us for our fancy central European culture. The fins envy our warm weather and sunlight. And the swedes envy the fact that we have souls.
And the swedes envy the fact that we have souls.
And humour...
Tbh, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what they envy about us, due to their guttural and primitive language.
We only got 2 weeks of summer before we get gray sky amd overall shitty weather do i doubt tjat the fins envy us on that point. Although we still got more sunlight them them
The have an independence day, we don't.
No one Can conquer Denmark 🇩🇰😎
Befrielsesdag?
Denmark and Norway are best friends.
Denmark and Sweden are best enemies.
Other Nordic countries are OK but don't really matter in the whole dynamic.
And Norway Can buy Sweden if they want to😂
It’s that bearded guy from Iceland, right?
So we talk a lot of trash back and forth in the Nordics. It’s really just banter. Mostly.
Also, no one gives a fuck what anyone from Iceland thinks.
Iceland is a waiting room for people to get granted admission to the holy land.
The admission being wholely dependent on their skill in pronouncing rødgrød med fløde and leverpostej.
It has gotten so bad that they even teach them to say these buzzwords in school.
They hate us ‘cause they ain’t us 😎
Yea they hate us cuz they anus
Sweden, Norway and Denmark all share a rich history together, and with that wars and conflicts over territory.
Sweden, Norway and Denmark are like 3 brothers who pick on eachother, but if one brother is ever threatened there is quite the guarantee that the two other countries will immediately back up the country that is threatened.
On a more serious note, alot of swedes do look at Denmark as a racist and conservative country. Denmark have in the last 30 years participated in quite alot of wars in the middle east, and an anti-immigrant stance towards specifically muslim immigration. The swedes chose a different path being way more lenient on islamic immigration resulting in a massive rise in crime. Some statistics you can argue (like the massive spike in rape), however gun-crime you can directly relate to a failed immigration policy of Sweden and how they have allowed gang violence to dominate swedish suburbs.
On a more serious note, alot of swedes do look at Denmark as a racist and conservative country.
The irony of sweden acting racist towards danes cause they think danes are racists is great. With the sour cherry ontop being karma of their own helligfrans-ness now. I really like sweden and feel bad, hope they get things under control
Upvote for the use of the word helligfrans-ness
Thank you, by rearranging the letters in the word Sweden it inadvertently became helligfrans-ness, that's how I found out.
*Har lige prøvet at google translate helligfrans og den giver "Saint Francis", hvis nogen kender et bedre engelsk udtryk.. så har vi alle brug for at nogen deler
Too much helligfrans-ness is never a good thing
Helligfransness-gate.. Stay safe out there
sanctimonious jerk/prude
It will be interesting to see how the Swedish self-image (Dane’s are racists while Swedes are morally superior people) will deal with the fact that 20% of the population now vote for the Swedish Democrats. That means more Swedes than Dane’s vote for a party that’s more extreme right than anything we have in parlament here.
On the same note they wil also soon have to deal with their history in Sápmi/Lappland and the problematic ways they still treat the Sámi people. Likely it will not be a pretty sight - the Swedish history in Sápmi is comparable to the Russian history as a colonial empire which western academics has finally discovered after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It’s very dark and completely ignored in Sweden.
Sápmi/Lappland and the problematic ways they still treat the Sámi people.
That's an interesting paradox in the land of milk and political correctness.
Do you have any article, video on this? I feel I've encountered this information one time before but given the stress on inclusivity in swe and humanism it's strange not having been exposed to this more.
Sweden is a lot more conservative though with a super high Gini coefficient. A lot of the people supporting immigration do it with a "but I don't want to live near them".
Thats a big turn for the original question.
How so?
"some thing, some thing..." Ob a serious note: something something brown people"
Good comments
Men nej
Swedens need to make fun of Denmark is directly correlated with the exchange rate between SEK and DKK. The lower the value of the Swedish Krone, the more they joke about Denmark.
Currently the Swedish krone is at a historic low.
We have bacon and beer, they have surstrømning. Nuff` said
Vi er deres retmæssige herskere, og det har de svært ved at erkende. De er som ulydige børn.
Jealousy
The instagrammer is Icelandic living in Norway. The reel in question
Sweden bad and so is it not longer
That’s a good wending. Maybe we can use it in another afsnit.
Utilsigtet The Julekalender?
Eller måske to aimed The Julekalender?
One of my best friends is Swedish and I fucking hate him with all my guts. But at least I can fuck with him by shouting JÖSTAS PINGA PONGA, so it's all good.
It's just the nature of the Nordic game.

The dude who made that clip is from iceland. Danmark colonized iceland and held them back for a looooong time. Thats why :)
What are you on about? We did none of those things. They became Norwegian and then Danish back in 1830 after their own system more of less collapsed due to internal conflicts, we didn't colonize them and we also gave them independence when they wanted in 1904 + 1944.
I disagree. Danmark is missing the historical understanding of ourselves as colonizers and a lot of knowledge about it. Not only in regards to Iceland, but as a whole. It’s a problem that schools does not emphasise this and the general idea and spirit of Denmark does not include ourselves as bad guys. As a society we need to own up to this. The reel in question here pokes gentil fun of this, but that does not change the facts.
I'm no expert on Iceland but I read the wiki and Denmark did not "colonize" Iceland:
In the early thirteenth century, the internal conflict known as the age of the Sturlungs weakened Iceland, which eventually became subjugated to Norway over the 13th century. The Old Covenant (1262–1264), and the adoption of Jónsbók (1281) effectively ended the Icelandic Commonwealth. Norway, in turn, was united with Sweden (1319) and then Denmark (1376). Eventually all of the Nordic states were united in one alliance, the Kalmar Union (1397–1523), but on its dissolution, Iceland fell under Danish rule.
This is not "colonizing" in any sense, no matter what happens in the Danish school system.
Sibling rivalry
This. Brother/sisterly love-hate relationship. At home we tease each other. But we can always count on each other if we get bullied.
it's just cope that literally nobody likes Sweden, not even the swedes
It's kinda like the English hating on the French. It's just brotherly poking fun at a very un-funny past of wars and strife.
All you really need to know is that all things Swedish are bad, and all things Danish are good. Or at least waaaay better than the Swedish things. Also, Swedes are just degenerate alcoholics, and you can't trust a word they say.
;)
I once haved an GF that where from sweden. There is lot of love between girls from Sweden and Danish men. They find us more attractive and like our humour. They see swedish men as stiff, correctly and boring. That's why swedish men hate us. Just like the good old danish song:
🎶Man kan ikke gøre for at man har charme🎶
A tale as old as the countries themselves. There has always been rivalry between them and a joking hatred of each other
So usually it is in a more "family we don't like each other kinda" kinda way, but recently I actually have been noticing a more "We do not like Denmark at all" in a more serious manner from the other nordic countries and I do not understand why
Dunno. The not liking Denmark in a more serious way than just banter seems new to me tbh
The only serious Denmark hate I’ve seen is people seeing us as being pretentious about our high QoL Ranking
the QoL is also high in the rest of the North tho.
I think it’s mostly people outside the Nordics that think the nordics are being pretentious. I haven’t seen any genuine hate between the Nordic countries
Envy, we don’t have systembolaget and can buy alcohol when ever we want!
Jealousy.
We're too based for them to handle.
Probably, it's mostly some crackpots making a lot of noise and not a serious general sentiment. The bit of historic reasoning is likely the Denmark used to be the central power in the Nordic region. Every other Nordic country has had to claim its independence from a Danish centred administration at some point. Also, new culture, ideas, etc.. from Europe to the Nordic region has historically also come through and from Denmark. This makes Swedes, Norwegeans, Icelanders, and Faroese, at least to some degree, define themselves in opposition to Danes.
Take the language. Today, we know the original common language as "old norse". Back in the 900s the ones speaking the language knew it as "Danish tongue". Take the national flags. The original flag is the Danish flag. All the other Nordic flags are based on the Danish flag but replaced the colours with something else.
Swedes are not all the same and the relationship to it's neighbors varies a lot depending on location.
Swedes up to Kalmar - Halmstad are very friendly to Danes and regularly engage with Danes and Denmark.
Swedes up to Norrköping - Uddevalla are neutral online but will be very friendly when actually engaging with Danes IRL.
Swedes up to Gävle - Arvika are negative from lack of exposure and historic baggage but will be friendly once the ice is broken when engaging with Danes IRL.
The rest of Swedes in the far north are neutral but wont put in any effort to be friendly either as they don't really "get" Danes or other southern people.
p3ni5envy!!
It is friendly banter, nothing more. If it ever comes down to it, I believe that Scandinavians will stand together as if we were one people. One example that comes to mind: during WW2, Sweden helped shelter 20000 Danish refugees (mainly resistance and jews) that were hunted by the Germans.
Furthermore, Sweden (10M) and Norway (5M) are some of the biggest Danish import and export partners, not far behind Germany, which has over 80M people. We are also very connected and similar when it comes to culture and society in general, not to mention our millenia-long shared history.
It's like siblings in a family. The Nordic countries were in a union called Kalmar Union for 150 years and have very similar culture. The languages are mutually intelligible. We should have made a union before EU.
It's just banter, we all make fun of each other.
It has something to do with Christian the second
Denmark and Sweden is known for having a friendly banter, like saying they hate each other. There's even comics about it. https://satwcomic.com/we-are-in-a-very-hateing-relationship and https://satwcomic.com/we-should-be-friends
It's nothing serious.
Fun fact: Danes, Norwegians and Swedes almost talk the same language, and can somewhat understand each other.
If we had some kind of shared media culture we could all understand each other no problem. Most Norwegians understand Swedish perfectly (at least those of us over 30), because we were exposed to Swedish through films and TV (if you had cable TV Swedish TV had more cartoons and stuff).
When you learn Danish as a second or third language, Norwegian and Swedish doesn't sound almost the same. It's funny because they're supposedly much easier to understand but to me Danish makes sense and Swedish and Norwegian don't at all. They could understand my Danish in Norway though, so that was nice.
Danish is my first language, and with my limited interaction with Norwegians and Swedes, Norwegians seems easier to understand, especially if they speak slowly.
Norwegian does seem more similar to Danish than Swedish. When you see it written, it's almost the same and any differences can be figured out from context. I think Swedish has more words that are quite different, or the word is the same but the meaning is different.
In my opinion Danes hate Swedes more than Swedes hate Danes, but ultimately it's only something which pops up during sports and competitions.
True danes pity the swedes. We have no need to stomp on people living in the dirt.
Actually they mostly don’t think about us at all
It is all jealousy!
Norway was piss poor before we gave them the oil!
Sweden is just like our retarded big brother!
But we still like to party together sometimes ;)
It's mostly jokes among Nordic countries, but Icelanders genuinely hate the Danes for some reason.
Could it be because of the colony thing?
I think it's because they have to learn Danish in school.
Its like siblings, we have to trash Norway and Sweden, but noone else can.
We have a deep nordic “family/brotherhood” due to our shared history and like to joke about each other.
