this guy shows how soap will spread on your hands using different washing ways
VideoWhenever Mum and Dad didn't believe I had done my teeth properly they used to threaten to buy little pink tablets that would show up bright link on the unclean parts of my teeth.
Bogus but it worked Haha
Yo what!?
Ugh we had to use those in school sometimes. They tasted so bad
I fucking loved them, could've eaten them like candy, if dentist would let me!
You would probably like pez then.
I do! Had one of those little dispensers for them as a kid :D
I've always thought that Red Bull tastes like "liquid Pez."
Holy shit! You're right!! I'm drinking one right now, how did I never notice this!?
Wait, it does? Why don't they say THAT instead of the whole thing about wings? I've never tried Red Bull but if it tastes like PEZ I might have to give it a go.
That is a much better description than the "liquid smarties" I'd heard.
How did they not do this to you at your school?
I remember them giving us those cheap baggies you get at the dentist with one-time use toothbrushes and the pink tablet inside... They'd make us chew the tablet and brush our teeth, then give a little prize to whoever had the cleanest teeth.
They did the same thing with washing hands... They squeezed a dollop of lotion laced with UV dye into our hands, then made us go wash. Then we had to pass our hands under a blacklight to come back in the classroom - where a pizza party was happening.
I was so bad at that damn game the pizza was cold by the time I made it back inside every single year. Sigh.
One time my 4th grade teacher put a bunch of powder on the desk, everybody wiped it off with our hands and he later brought a black light out and shined it on our hands and it showed that ppl hadn’t washed them.
I've never heard of these before. Not once in all of my dentist visits nor in school had I ever seen them.
Yeah those are totally a thing I remember from childhood
Show us your teeth. Have you been brushing?

That mouthwash was so fucking sick. The taste popped into my mouth as soon as I saw your comment
I bought some Disclosing Tablets just a couple of weeks ago in the local pharmacy (am in the UK). Suspected my son wasn't brushing his teeth very well - he wasn't. He has improved his technique greatly since!
I do remember a nurse or dentist coming to our school and getting us to use these in the bathrooms (great fun) when I was about 8. We got a bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste and some leaflets about brushing well to take home.
I know these are a thing from Pete and Pete
I used these as a kid and they (along with other "kid-friendly" medication and such) are the reason I hate cherry flavored things today
I LOVED these as a kid!
Ypu. Always got them at the dentist as a kid.
I used those as a kid. Worked great. One of my most fun rituals as a kid.
Not bogus at all.
Some dentist came into my classroom when I was in the fourth grade, in 1966, and they chose me to be one of the volunteers.
I ended up embarrassed because I didn't have the best tooth brushing habits and showed a very pink set of teeth.
Glad I didn't go through that, I'm sure I ate a lot of soap bars growing up though -_- that and dish soap thanks to my parents lol.
The only time I got my mouth washed out with soap was when I was three and I said "damn".
Gee, grandma, I wonder where I heard that!
I've been contemplating buying those for my kids because I'm tired of their lies.
‘Disclosure tabs’.
My parents did this too! I’m glad I’m not the only one who was put thru this! Lol
I always got them from the dentist in little packets after getting my teeth cleaned
Shit what else did they not lie to you about??
My mom bought those. It was a hassle and it was extremely messy. I would have to scrub to get all the pink off my teeth. But it got all over the sink. The tongue was the hardest part to clean. Man, I would scrub away but it wouldn’t come off the tongue. It would eventually tho.
What made you think it's bogus...? It's not some sort of science magic, it's far from hard to just understand that it works and how it works.
but why do we gotta do it inches away from the carpet? #More Suspense Than Hitchcock
I think it’s probably a towel...
lol I realized that on my second watch. I'mma leave the comment so everyone knows how dumb I am.
It’s an easy mistake to make. You’re not dumb, just a ding brain
I'm just sitting here thanking God I don't have to wash each fingernail individually, cause it ain't likely.
I cut my fingernails down really short so I would have an easier time getting my hands completely clean.
That's a great idea
My husband and I also use separate towels to dry with, wipe down our groceries with disinfectant towelettes, and use separate bathrooms.
We had been using paper towels when this all started, but soon realized that that would be too expensive in the long run, and at this point, they're hard to find.
He found some old, dried up, baby wipes which he turned into disinfectant wipes by adding isopropyl alcohol and aloe gel.
Remember, though, don't flush any wipes - even if they say they're flushable. They'll mess up your plumbing.
I think that is one of the main reasons they put the chemical in soap that makes it foam. Soap doesn’t normally form bubbles; chemicals are added to give people the feeling of the soap working. It also helps to see how the soap is distributed.
Same thing with toothpaste.
There's no "chemical" in soap to make it foam. If you make soap at home out of the most basic ingredients (lye, water, oils) it still makes suds.
True story, I once worked in a factory and they asked me to test a new soap for cleaning down the machines at night. It was called Listerpole or something, and when we ran the machines that stuff wouldn't stop bubbling.
Literally filled the factory with bubbles. Funniest shit I'd ever seen. Will never forget the shift manager's face, as he kept mouthing the words "fucking bubbles.... fucking bubbles.."
Not nearly as much as when chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate are added. Their sole purpose is to increase lather: that’s why they’re called lather agents.
Yes you can add things to increase lather, but the comment I was replying to specifically said
Soap doesn’t normally form bubbles; chemicals are added to give people the feeling of the soap working.
SLS is just fancy soap, made out of (veggie) oil like other soaps.
Lather and foaming are directly associated with amphiphilic behavior, aka oil removal aka soap.
I'll admit I have not understood the hatred of "chemical" soaps, the processing is pretty similar to traditional lye soap.
What am I missing?
What am I missing?
Ignorance.
All those things you mention are chemicals.
I remember using this mouthwash when I was a kid that would turn your teeth blue. You used it before brushing your teeth to make sure you got it all.
now this sounds like a really good business idea
The key is to wear gloves before washing, so you know where the soap spreads
This whole procedure is the standard for hand washing in a medical environment. They didnt use paint to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method when i did infection control though! I wish they had!
Absolutely! It's great to see a visual representation of its effectiveness.
This man is truly a master of it’s craft
When I was in culinary school the bathrooms had a gel dispenser and a UV blacklight. The idea was you'd apply the gel to your hands thoroughly then wash them to see the areas you'd missed. I thought it was pretty neat.
But if you were bad at washing your hands wouldn't you be bad at applying the gel all over also? Or am I not understanding?
You did the moves because you were taught to. But suddenly they all make sense too :D
Too bad 90% of the general public only run their hands under the water for a few seconds... some rarely use soap at all!
Worked in a hospital and was taught this exact sequence for proper hand washing!
I work in a shop with a deli we do the same thing
When we practiced disinfecting our hands, we used a kind of clear UV-reactive paint to see how we did. That was pretty useful I think.
Wish this was taught more in schools! The black paint on white gloves has such a visual impact
I'm just now realizing that the tops of my thumbs are probably filthy.
Did you think they cleaned themselves?
Our Foods teacher does a unit on hand washing and the spread of bacteria. The kids make posters and everything.
One positive out of all of this for me is that I finally washed my hands correctly for the first time in over 24 years.
You should watch Mark Robers video. It's very educational.
I'm just now realizing that the tops of my thumbs are probably filthy.
No matter how much I wash, the shame never scrubs away
Shame requires five minutes of prework with 50 grit or less sandpaper before you move on to the acetone.
Out, damned spot!
Ohh Macbeth
🏅 here’s my poor mans award to you my friend
2020: people learning how to properly wash hands.
I’m pretty surprised people don’t know how to touch their whole hand with their other hand.

It seems so! Are you saying you know where both the top and bottom are?
It's not exactly a common skill to require. I don't remember dying in droves just because people weren't washing the backs of their thumbs.
Sure, but it makes basic logical sense for the activity. For a lot of people it kinda just clicks “washing your hands means washing all of your hands not just your palms and front side of your fingers”. I understand laziness getting in the way of doing it all the time (not pretending I wash every square millimeter on my hands each time), but it’s kind of bewildering to me that there needs to be an instructional video for this.
Good to have nonetheless.
It's also one of those things that have been so reinforced by a lifetime of "doing it wrong" that people don't really spend the mental energy thinking through things. Almost like how you've never really been taught to wipe so there's a variance in technique, although hopefully not in coverage.
Most people I've spoken to seem to have believed (incorrectly) that the soap and water were doing all the work rather than the mechanical action. In their view it only mattered that their hands got wet.
Or tie your shoes. https://youtu.be/zAFcV7zuUDA
I see it super normal because I'm a doctor, but let me tell you, 90 % of the population just rub their palms
TiL that the backs of my fingers and my entire thumb have never been cleaned in 37 years
If you’ve ever showered, bathed, or swam then you’ve probably cleaned them.
Depends on what you’re swimming in
Student loan debt?
I don’t think I’ll ever be clean of that.
*cries in law degree from a private university
Thanks for sharing ! I am going to show this to my 8 year old who doesnt take hand washing seriously !
Glow in the dark effect might be more effective video for an 8 year old...
Mark Rober is more effective for kids than anything. His pee in pool episode is required viewing for the many kids that come to my house to swim. They just... get it after they see the video.
I am going to show this to my husband who doesn't take hand washing seriously.
Guess I can skip the thumbs part
I’m sorry for your loss.
Lol I'm sorry for all you people who jam your thumbs everywhere
Motherthumbers.
You know who’s sorry for his loss?
👍This guy 👍
Yea he’s showing us how to washing hands properly. This is an entire hand washing scenario, not several different ways.
Good practice for later when he needs to wash the paint off his hands.
If there’s one thing Coronavirus has taught me its that far to many people don’t wash their hands or don’t know how to wash their hands
The fact that he’s doing this over carpet immediately triggered my anxiety.
I assumed it was a towel
It looks like watercolor paint, easily removed with water. No need to be alarmed!
Boss move, can’t get over the fact he’s doing this over carpet 🤣
I think it’s a towel...if you look close you can see fold lines.
I’ve seen this done at work in a similar way with a UV light and dye, but that was way more simpler and effective.
I’m on day 5 of quarantine and I just came so hard to this video
So many more people need to see this....
I had a micro lab in nursing school and the first lesson was on infection control. They had this spray that highlighted bacteria and other microbes on your hands under black light. Then they told us to wash our hands how we usually do and basically nothing came off my hands after checking under the black light. After that lab I made sure to wash my hands just this way.
It seems so silly to stress this hand washing thing but if you pay attention in public restrooms no body is actually washing their hands.
You see that, fucking high schoolers? Dipping your hand in water for 2 seconds is not only wrong, but fucking disgusting.
The fact that's he's doing that over what looks like carpet makes me anxious
Pretty sure it's a towel
TIL I have flawless hand washing abilities.
Honestly this looks like some hands having sex
You know a guide is good when you don't need to understand the language it's in to understand the message.
This is missing scratching your palms. Your nails can be gunky and I do this to clean it out
I think he does do that though.
E: yeah, 1:10 thru 1:12
Who would've predicted that in 2020, handwashing videos will get 30K upvotes
2001: a space odyssey.
2010: the year we made contact.
2020: The year we learned to wash our hands.
What an effective demonstration! I'm sharing this with others.
It’s very brave of him to do that over his carpet
thank you good human
We are screwed lol
Or you could just use your eyes and look at the soap.
Is this some weird sex thing ?
was anyone else disappointed that he didn't produce a coin or like the three of clubs?
Hmm interesting. It seems here that where ever he applies the soap is wear his hands get soap on them
Watching him do this over the carpet had me so on edge
jokes on you...i dont even...(cough)...wash my hands
Why is he doing this over carpet?
Not gonna lie I dont think it'll work if you wear gloves
It's 2020 and we have to teach people about soap.
It’s sad we need to show people how to wash their fucking hands.
Bold of him to do this over carpet.
That's actually the proper way to wash your hands. Everyone needs to wash their hands like that.
But the water moving the soap over places does nothing?
This isn’t accurate. Saponification breaks the bonds in the soap and the soap spreads a wider area than this food coloring.
This is the hand washing procedure in place in hospitals across the world, as recommended by the WHO.
So really, the behaviour of soap is irrelevant to the exercise, he’s showing the steps and how they work to ensure your hands are totally and absolutely covered.
Also, same procedure for alcohol-based hand rub.
Do you agree, if doing this method with soap will get your hands clean?
I typically only go this far if I get poo on my hands.
So that's how they make those black gloves every tech youtuber uses
But he didn't song happy birthday twice so the UK can't approve it
1st step wash hands in first place.
Why did I watch this whole video? I've been washing my hands exactly like this, in the same order for years. Minus that little Italian move at 1:10
Great tutorial on how to make white gloves into black gloves.
I have now aged 6 years watching this, and singing happy birthday 6 times.
I literally can’t wash my hands. Try putting soap, even perfume free soap on psoriasis lol
This is good to know. I always have a hard time washing my fingernails in a regular wash.
Looks like hes showing us how tar would stick to your hands if you were to play with it
could of just bought black gloves instead
It's 'could have', never 'could of'.
Rejoice, for you have been blessed by CouldWouldShouldBot!
Dude has got to be a surgeon.
Midway had some nice Rorschach hands going on.
Super clean hands instantly contaminated when touching the faucet and door knob. 🦠
And that’s how black latex gloves are made!
How close they were to that pristine carpet stresses me out
Another key washing tip this doesn't show is the scrub with the paper towel afterwards. Paper towels help A LOT with removing oils and crap from your hands that might not get rinsed off with soap and water.
These are not "different ways". This is one ayliffe hand washing technique, which is used everywhere in healthcare since it has evidence behind it.

Can this video be downloaded?
"It's all about purity Charlie" - Frank Reynolds
That's like 3 "Happy Birthdays" of hand washing.
I saw a video of this Iranian nurse showing how to correctly wash your hands. I haven’t watched this video yet, but you’re supposed to start with a circular motion rubbing the palms of your hands together. Then, you place one hand on top of the other facing the same direction, with your fingers in the spaces, then start to scrub. After that, you kind of grab around the bottom of your thumb and twist a bit (don’t twist your thumb), then press hard around the middle of your palm and scrub a bit there. Then, you go around the wrists a bit.
edit: watched the video and its basically the same thing oop
how about just wash your whole fucking hands.
I'm going to try this with a condom later.
Did people need to be shown how to wash their hands?
Sorry can’t do it. They said 20 seconds!
And Merry Christmas, you filthy animal.
But adding water would be a much more effective visual to actual soap, right?
I worked as a butcher for a grocery store or a while and honestly this is wonderful advice, but I also would scrub to just below my elbows too cause man
Fools, my tub is already filled with soap.
I am become soap
ok i got it we need colored soap to see how well we wash hands.
