Please settle a debate between my wife and me: When you go on vacation for a week, do you shut off the main water valve to your house? Follow up: If you do this, is there any risk of damage to the water heater? (In that scenario, should I turn that off too?) I have seen widely varying advice when I Google... I'm hoping top answers here will show us the way...

helpThis, also the cat gets weird if we leave him alone for more than a few days so trips are generally short anyway.
I wish there was a way to promise the lil guy that we're coming back.
Please don't leave your cat alone. My cat starts crying after more than 24 hours, in a creepy child-like voice that sounds like "Heeelloooo???"
Mine cries after like, ten minutes haha. He's hard to please. We have someone come once a day and spend some time with him, but it's never enough. We try not to leave for more than a week at a time, and he gets pretty weird after 3 days.
Hahaha what a baby! Ok thankfully my cat doesn't care that we're gone until it's been like 12-24 hours. If someone else is taking care of her... she'll forget all about us.
He gets SO UPSET if we just leave the room while he's eating, or if he fell asleep and he woke up and we're not there, or even if he wakes up and we're still there! He'll yell about it until someone responds. He doesn't understand when I'm on a work call, I'm not talking to him, he'll wake up and be a part of the conversation. He's ridiculous haha
